Oh yeah, let`s all revere the `working class hero` Bragg in his six million pound house and massive bank account. This wanker doesnt know anything about the working class just like Ben Elton and the other gravy train bandwagon pseudo socialist elite. Stop his big fat fees and he wouldnt piss up your arse if your kidneys were alight.
@rouseg7 Every Billy Bragg record had a label on it that said something like 'Capitalism is Killing Music. Pay no more than £3.75 for this 15 song album". Albums were between £8 and £15 at the time. I haven't seen his house, but have you? He's done loads of work for charity...gave financial and moral support to the miners. He's done a lot for his cause....and just because someone has money it doesn't mean they have forgotten what life was like before. Look at all the millionaire rappers.
Peter Maurin (France 1877 - USA 1949), christian anarchist activist who co-founded the Catholic Worker Movement, believed the Catholic Worker should stress life in small agricultural communities, as 'there is no unemployment on the land. When business is based on selfishness, everybody is busy becoming more selfish. Everybody would be rich if nobody tried to become richer.' Notice the Vatican Popes on the contrary are as christian as the greedy Italian Maffia Godfathers. Now Bless Billy 'ere :-)

A Great Anthem, and Bragg I think sings it best. A Nation's Market Economy probably doesn't work all that well if there isn't a thriving Commons right along with it to which citizens can have recourse as needed.
you're an idiot, if you knew anything you would know that billy bragg hates the bnp and everything they stand for, he even playing at a union meeting in this video, you have completely misinterpreted the lyrics of this song, talk about clueless!
Saw Billy Bragg when I was a nipper during the miners' strike & later in Barcelona - fair play to him. Does a good show & his heart's in the right place.
listen to the lyrics abit more its not about labour or tory there controlled by the same masters! The whole political system in this county (and most outher western countrys) in controlled by an international criminal Kabal of bankers (rothschilds rockefellers). We need anouther reverlution like wich has not been seen scicne the french reverlution i kid you not!
We are watching what has become the spectacular collapse of the capitalist apparatus, fundamental cracks are developing in there structures. Whilst their hideous system is in perpetual crisis, it is not dead. Its components with fight desperately to defend the structure of privilege, that has kept us down and repressed for hundreds of years.
The need now is for the political education of our class, YOU need to talk to people (if your not doing already) pass the message on, tell your family and work mates, talk to the other mothers about it as your picking the children up from school every little action that you make will bring the demise of this Evil system closer.
Finally a note on Solidarity, Im a liberation Theologian, yet we make strategic alliances with Marxists, our old masters will do there utmost to divide us, this is not a time for division, this is a time for Solidity. To recycle their own words, lets make a coalition of the willing
The Diggers were underratted. They had a couple of hits in the mid 70s and then disappeared. Nice to see Billy paying homage to them. Expect they are doing the clubs nowadays with Selector et al.
Wow. Thanks for shooting and posting this clip! This song used to give me the shivers every time I listened to it, and still often does. Powerful and resonates deeply. Billy rocks!

this song reminds me of england and englsih people and our heritage ,unfornantly ,we have lost all that now ,only to be over taken by forieghners, different cultures and lost identities,ENGLAND ,IS NO MORE ,LEAGALLY TAKEN OVER BY EVERY OTHER COUNTRY AND THERE WAYS if we say any thing we are shouted down as racists
Wow, what a moron. If you knew anything about British history you'd know that our culture, our heritage have and always will be a mixture of other cultures. "English" is just a mixture of the Celts, Angles, Saxons, Jutes etc, not to mention being conquered by the Romans and the Normans. Immigration is very much a part of English heritage and only accentuates our culture.
A song about the greatest social experiment in English history. Winstanley's ideas are important for all of us who cannot stand the very notions of imperialism and exploitation of labor.
what a beautiful guitar sound, fender telecaster? Lovely

Great song - Lets have old Labour back
mingosyard 3 years ago 5
Labours poor showing in the recent elections show clearly that large elements of the working class, can no longer see a reason to vote labour.
whats required, is a return to our socialist roots.
New labour has become stale, joint the LRC.
John Mc Donald for leader.

if this song gives you the shivers, then perhaps if you have not already you should do something about it.
Get involved politically, campaign, adgitate, resist, fight back and encourage others to do the same.
to those who say well theres no use they are too strong, ask yourself this question.
what would happen if we all said no at the one time?
what could they do then?
