@Sirscorps it was 1978 Super Bowl. Now I was trying to explain to 6400az that Packers return man #84 Odom could just fly, but 6400az dismissed it. What else should not be dismissed from this game was what a couple of undderated Packers did to won it. @0:24,DT #75 Doug Pureifory and his excellent quickness forces fumble. #54 center Larry McCarren clears out passing lane with takedown @2:16, was the best downfield blocking center (@2:32),and that downfiled hustling helped him force fumble @4:10.
@plntntvzn McCarren was a 4x Pro Bowler, although he didn't get to his 1st one until about '82-'83. He was a solid, gutty, smart & above-average center for many years. Steve "Leprechaun" (his real nickname) Odom could certainly fly, he ran a 9.4 100yd. dash in '74 while @ Utah, per the book "Downfield!". It's too bad he broke his leg in '78 & retired after the '79 season w/the Giants. I would've liked to see Starr use him more in the slot w/Lofton & Thompson.
Winning the game for the Packers was their center #54 Larry McCarren. He was a hustling center who went every down until the whistle stopped him, and was the best downfield blocking center well into his twilight years, and was a better athlete then than when he first came into the league in early 1970s. McCarren ran well,was crafty and nobody was more feisty. @2:31, McCarren's downfield block helps score TD, and @ 4:10, McCarren wins the game from his downfield hustling by forcing the fumble.
Packers Center #54 Larry McCarren was a tough, durable, smart and tenacious overachiever who made himself a good football player.McCarren had above average quickness & excellent strength for a 250-pounder.His techniques were good & he adjusted quickly to situations during a game. He was a throwback to the old days of leather helmets, and an ultimate competitor who knew all the tricks & kept finding ways to improve throughout his entire career.
@generationll Yes, while as a coach Starr had some admirable qualities, his teams seldom looked highly motivated or properly disciplined. When his teams looked like a well-coached, well-drilled team, it was when he was more of an overseer.
@0:24,forcing the fumble wass underrated Packer DT #75 Dave Pureifory, who had well-above-average strength & excellent quickness. At 6'1", he lacked height but used his build to his advantage. tall blockers found it difficult to get leverage on him. @2:57 forcing the fumble is Too Tall Jones with excellent strength & techniques.against the run and deflected more passes than a CB. Too Tall was redwood on wheels, and RBs Robert Newhouse & Preston Pearson WERE championship caliber, as you can see.
@3:24.....Thomas Henderson did'nt look nearly as fast as he always claimed he was.

@6400az I think Hollywood was that fast, Odom could just fly himself.

@plntntvzn
If he was as fast as he always claimed , he should've had no problem catching up to this guy.
Just holding him to his word.

@6400az He didn't have a vial of coke tucked in his pants for this game, like he did in the 75(?) Super Bowl; )

Bart Starr's success as a player did not translate into that as the Packers coach
