I'd say this is definitely worth getting in hard copy for just having an interactive MOVIE on a GBC as well as it being one of the only accessible versions true to the arcade (CDI does NOT count because you might as well buy the arcade cabinet for that price).
@Scarlet1992Kille The game shown in the here is not the game on the 3DS eShop. I would look up Dragon's Lair arcade (or DS). If you are going to like this game or not really depends. I grew up in the 80's playing lots of these kinds of games so I love them. I don't know how someone that didn't grow up in the 80's will receive it. Basically you watch a video sequence and have to press a button to complete the cartoon. Do it wrong, you die. It's like a choose your own adventure. I like the game.
@Scarlet1992Kille That's what I was saying the game play is just watching a video sequence and you have a short spot in the sequence to press a button (correctly) to progress to the next area. If you do it wrong you die. It's an interactive cartoon. If you are not a classic gamer I don't think you will enjoy it because the game play is very simplistic and it requires you to memorize patterns. I own this game on lots of different platforms because I enjoy it that much. Sega CD, CDi, Wii, GBC, ect
Wow, I didn't even know this version existed, probably because when I saw the cover I assumed they made it into a crappy platformer like the NES did. If I'd know this was an actual attempt to port the arcade game I would have bought and enjoyed it at the time. Of course now the best version is on the iPhone.
Sorry, but I disagree with the reviewer. For the GBC this is not awful - in fact, this perhaps the most impressive graphics and animation I have seen for the format.
If this was the quality we got for the PS1 etc then I would be slamming it, but for an 8-bit machine that plays on a far smaller screen this is excellent. Sound is naff, but otherwise its Dragons Lair.
Infact, compare this with other 8-bit versions like the Spectrum, C64 & Amstrad. Then compare to the amiga version(16-bit).
I had no idea that animation such as this was possible to do on a GB when not even the NES was able to... Even if it does not look as good as the arcade. Its still amazing to see it run on the old GB.:)
I'm sorry but the GBC version is probably the BEST home console port of Dragon's Lair and the graphics are AWESOME. Even today, the graphics for this GBC version look fantastic.
That's just silly, even the CDI version is better than this one. It has identical gameplay and far superior Graphics and sound. Not to mention the Jag CD and 3DO versions.
@VideoGameTakeOut That is, if you payed the ridiculously expensive price for a CDI in which Dragon's Lair will be the only game you own because if you wanted the Zelda games (which are the best games for the CDI...which is sad) as well, you'd have to pay up to $100.00+ for it.
Yeah, I'd say the GBC version is way better due to a cheaper price on a console far more worth having.
Ok, I thought this was an old post but I don't know what you are talking about. This review is spot on. The DS version will blow you away in that you loose nothing from the arcade version.
Yeah, no point of getting this GBC game. For the cost of not being able to play Dragon's Lair on the go, you'll get a much more authentic arcade experience with the versions designed for HD-DVD and Blu-ray players (released by Digital Leisure, Inc.).
Hi man, nice to see another review from you. Though, from the videos, I have to say that I was impressed by how well movies in Dragons Lair were converted.
That said though I have never liked those kinds of games. You know like Brain Dead 13 and Space Ace. They exemplify that grate graphics do not a grate game make. I always thought they were bad. But that's just my opinion.
Dude, actually, I just got it for 10 bucks at my local pawn shop. :D it's fun as hell! and yes, you're absolutely correct, it doesn't even matter if it's in 8-bit, as long as the gameplay still remains.
Pretty useless now we have arcade perfect version of this game on DS, iPhone, iPad and several others.
A damn amazing technical achievement though.

Wow this game looks incredible for a simplistic GBC game! I thought it was going to be a 2D version, was not expecting an arcade port.

I don't care how you spin it, for the GBC, those are some sick graphics.
