I read an article on him in Guitar World last month. That made me realize that I never really heard him much. Talent. ...and whatever word you could put before that...
the guy had respect; it sets up a zone of mutual acceptance where people instinctively know the boundaries even when completely blasted; you see this time and again in his shows where he's jammin in front of the minging masses
I have tried different types of slides over the years , glass, brass , chrome spark plug sockets all work fairly well but after seeing this footage of Rory I tried a small light copper pipe like the one here ,and on a stratocaster it absolutly screams! Looks like Rory had it right early on.
This guy is just the dogs sausage. He plays notes like they are coming out of a machine gun. One of very few (Johnny Winter included) who makes an electric rendition of the blues awesome!
Seeminlgy a total premadonna and pain in the arse offstage but that's talent for ya!
No, he was not a prima donna. Far from it. I've read just about everything there is to read about Rory. He was extremely shy, but very generous to fans. He tried to give good interviews, but his shyness often got in the way.

i don't really like it. i went here looking for another song on a whim. i wanted to find it cause my daddy used to listen to the devil made me do it all the time and i cant see him or any of the rest of my family til. im 18. it sucks.whatev. people need to look me up. psh shea.
I dont get this thing of comparing people. "So and so is better at such and such than whats his face" and all that jive. It detracts from the enjoyment of the music, IMO. Everybody's different. Anyway, personally I reckon Rory is part of a very elite (and I dont mean that in the snobby "elitist" sense) group of very convincing white blues players. Johnny Winter being another example...

My question is: How were they able to keep people from rushing the stage? Rory is not only supremely talented, he's supremely magnetic.
Yikes.

Yes. Many times he played right down in among the audience.
By some reports, he'd take drinks from beers offered to him.
It's still astonishing to watch him interact with the audience.
