@toomanyminges so agree! I want to transport myself into the Dolorian and re-live those times for 1 week and get dressed up all and play the part. Studio 54, Boogie Nights, Chips, Charlies Angels you name it!! I would do it. Time for another theme party :)
I can't help it. He'll always be Marky Mark in his tighty whities, surrounded by his funky bunch singing Good Vibrations. It's such a sweeeeet sensation! I love this guy!
Sorry, nothing awesome going on in the 70's - we were well past the real greats of the 60's, and too early for the angst of the "preppy" 80's, the sad advent of "AIDS," let alone the angst filled consumption expensive expansion of the American wasteband, of the 90's plus. Lets just say, everything looks good in retrospect.
@ldefaria1 If anything the 70's were the special era where the pill provided convenient and safe contraception and all STD were treatable with antibiotics. Sounds awesome to me.
You're absolutely right! This was one of the top scenes in one of the top movies of the whole 90's. You know something that is really tops? Watermelon. Fresh, cool, satisfying watermelon.
it is not about the song, i am talking about the dance type i was teached 5 years ago. Some american priests were in the camp where we had a leader's weekend of our organisation. so they said so :)
I can't get enough of this scene!!It brings back so many memories of when my older brother and sister would have to babysit me when my mother went out for the evening and then my brother and sister would invite all of their friends over, put on a disco record and practice these moves all night long.Great stuff!!!
absolute brilliance - notice how the camera zooms in then out then back in again in perfect harmony with the action - absolute quality from pt anderson
the only air head here my friend is you...cause you can't accept the fact that some people are different and they don't like pornography cause thats what this film is and most "normal" people don't...but speaking "of coming across"..you come across as a pervert...cause only perverts would like a film like this pretentious(meaning fake)yes i do know what it means...tripe!
so get a life my friend!
you can consider yourself ignored now..cause i'm not wasting my time with you anymore..cya!
Were you also stunned that the movie "Juno" wasn't about Roman mythology? Or that "Atonement" wasn't about Jesus?
Seriously, the definition of an airhead is a person who thinks that because of a title, they all of a sudden know what a movie is about. If you went into the theater thinking it was going to be about disco dancing and were caught unawares by the fact that it was about the porn industry, maybe you should start reading reviews first.
@s50538: Indeed mate. "CrazyBoutThe70s" doesn't even know what he's on about. Saying that he thought Boogie Nights would be about the 70s and disco is about as stupid as thinking that Enter The Dragon would have been a a flm about dragons. Don't listen to the guy - he's talking out of his ass :)
This is a movie inspired by John Holmes. THe version shown in the movie is about how he started and when his career in adult film industry took off. The story is line is precise. "Wonderland" is a version of John Holmes after the legend died.He became a drug addict and a pathological liar. Wonderland is a great film.
When they were all dancing in formation in unison, we called that a Line Formation Hustle in the 70s, but there were all sorts of variations of it. There used to be these little paperback books you could get in bookstores in the mid-70s that showed you all the steps to the dances.
that's awesome. Thanks so much for your comment. I'd like to learn this move, I guess I have to check out a dance studio. The cast was awesome in this sequence.

and i'll also add it's pretentious title BOOGIE NIGHTS...i thought it was about disco and the 70s...it's just about a guys dick!
i rest my case!
CrazyBoutThe70s 3 years ago
whattt? the setting was the 70's into the 80's...obviously theres going to be a story that surrounds that time... just like any other movie.
Look at war films, they may be set during a certain war but the film itself would generally portray a character during the war (ie. Full Metal Jacket)
its not pretentious at all. I'm not sure you even know what that means.

escobar147 3 years ago
Boogie Nights is loosely, again loosely based
on 70's porn legend John Holmes. Dirk has Brock
Landers and Holmes used the name Johnny Wadd,
even the end of Boogie Nights is loosely based
on Holmes involvement in the Wonderland drug
house killings. Actually Val Kilmer played
Holmes in the movie Wonderland.
