Hey there your comment is so... like your own but God, Boheme was the first opera I knew, and I learned it before my fifth birthday, imagine, quite evocative for me too.
It is a lovely video, but I'm addicted to the (very old) Bjoerling performance. Unfortunately, it's audio only. In my heart, and in my ears, I think there's been no real tenor since Bjoerling (me, of course, I'm a basso, envious of all the good tenor arias).
Well sir Mr. Basso, no way, Bjoerling was great on everything he did, but when I hear this with Pippo and Callas I melt.
Further on, when I watch and listen to this with Villazón and Netrebko, I have to remember my first time at Bellas Artes in Mexico City with Pippo and Callas, so great.
I hate comparissons, each has their own value, so different and nice, that's why opera is still alive and I love it so much.
We are watching this DVD at opera camp right now (and yes there is a DVD version). Its such an amazing opera and the Lyric Opera of KC is putting it on soon- i'm trying out to be in the childrens chorus tomorrow. I hope i make it! Well anyway, thanks for posting all of these la boheme scenes, it really helped me understand and practice for the audition.
this is the most wonderful clip, the way Jose Carreras stands on the balcony, I have never seen and heard anything so honest and sad and beautiful...lets hearts melt away...
This is without doubt the saddest moment in opera for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG. And these singers do a perfect job with conveying it.

I'll have to check out the DVD. :) This is one opera where a box of Kleenex is required.

Thanks for putting this on uTube. It's a great reminder of just how wonderful Teresa Stratas was. The young Carreras was a fabulous Rodolfo.

I wasn't aware of the existence of a DVD. My recording is from a Dutch TV broadcast 1984 (and now converted to my own DVD-version of course)
