  • This is without doubt the saddest moment in opera for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG. And these singers do a perfect job with conveying it.

  • I'll have to check out the DVD. :) This is one opera where a box of Kleenex is required.

  • Gazie mille!

  • When was this performed?

  • 1982

  • I LOVE this version of La Boheme and have been looking for it on DVD. Is it available?

  • José is a BEST

  • and the Musetta is la Scotto?? woo what a cast!!! Thank you

  • Who is the baritone??? he´s very good. Please name all the singers!! the baritone is also important

  • Marcello is the baritone, sung by Richard Stilwell.

  • OMG IT'S THE SADDEST.

the music is so evocative, it's impossible not to cry

  • Hey there your comment is so... like your own but God, Boheme was the first opera I knew, and I learned it before my fifth birthday, imagine, quite evocative for me too.

And more, the whole 4th was done to make us feel.

  • Teresa Stratas is always great and amazing.. every tone..

  • Thanks for putting this on uTube. It's a great reminder of just how wonderful Teresa Stratas was. The young Carreras was a fabulous Rodolfo.

  • It is a lovely video, but I'm addicted to the (very old) Bjoerling performance. Unfortunately, it's audio only. In my heart, and in my ears, I think there's been no real tenor since Bjoerling (me, of course, I'm a basso, envious of all the good tenor arias).

  • Well sir Mr. Basso, no way, Bjoerling was great on everything he did, but when I hear this with Pippo and Callas I melt.

Further on, when I watch and listen to this with Villazón and Netrebko, I have to remember my first time at Bellas Artes in Mexico City with Pippo and Callas, so great.

I hate comparissons, each has their own value, so different and nice, that's why opera is still alive and I love it so much.

  • We are watching this DVD at opera camp right now (and yes there is a DVD version). Its such an amazing opera and the Lyric Opera of KC is putting it on soon- i'm trying out to be in the childrens chorus tomorrow. I hope i make it! Well anyway, thanks for posting all of these la boheme scenes, it really helped me understand and practice for the audition.

  • Thanks for posting! I recently watched this entire DVD of this opera - it's very sad and beautiful - perfect tragedy!

  • I wasn't aware of the existence of a DVD. My recording is from a Dutch TV broadcast 1984 (and now converted to my own DVD-version of course)

  • Yes, indeed, It has been available for years and was just re-released. Check it out on amazon!

  • this is the most wonderful clip, the way Jose Carreras stands on the balcony, I have never seen and heard anything so honest and sad and beautiful...lets hearts melt away...

  • My heart melts away when he cries " Mimi!" when he sees she is dead :D So intense and passionate!
