  • He is so different from his Dad you almost forget he's Bonzo's son and then he does these fills and rolls and it sounds like he's channeling his father. It's scary good.

  • Now go and listen to the son 50 ways to leave your lover by Gadd!

  • How can you make the snare sound like that??

  • who ever said he can't play can suck it

  • his grandsun is my freind in school his name is jager bonham

  • Comment removed

  • 90s,before HD. good playing

  • And you guys should check out Black Country Communion

    youtube.com/v/-zs_MD8kGKE?fs=1&amp

  • I used to watch this VHS tape when I was 13, along with simon philips, and my father teaching me, Im still drumming 14 years on..

  • Tsust right, Steve Gadd, John B, Porcaro etc. but im´sorry this sucks..

  • This is actually a brilliant variation on the groove Steve Gadd played for 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.

  • I still have this "Star Licks" video on VHS. Man, it's old!

  • He IS using a double pedal here on the last groove... but so what?..

I used to be a purist and insist on single pedal in my drumming...

I wasted valuable time ....double pedal is great as long as you dont rely on it as a crutch for poor hand / stick development. I see that a lot.

  • Great vid, but the snare rings awfull D:

  • you and youre father are the greatest. thanx allot for rhe great rock..

  • son of a GOD

  • do I detect double kick there?

  • I think he has a double kick set up but if you look at the foot cam he is mostly playing with one foot. Also John Bonham used a double pedal before he was in Zeppelin, but the rest of the band didn't let him use a double pedal.

  • @DisposableHeroes0 Double Bass, no double pedal

  • @pachopavan Sorry yeah, that one

  • @DisposableHeroes0 Bonham NEVER used a double bass drum, even before Zeppelin. He didn't need to.

  • @p0llenp0ny He didn't need to, but had one set up.

  • @DisposableHeroes0 I mean like, at one stage, at one point, he owned and had one set up but the band removed it like before the first album or something.

  • @DisposableHeroes0 What are your sources?

  • @p0llenp0ny I can't remember. I read it somewhere, probably wikipedia

  • yea, the rest of led wanted him to try it out, so he did, hated it, and never played one again lol, at least thats what i read

  • @p0llenp0ny Well, MY sources are from the book "When Giants Walked The Earth" by Mick Wall. John Bonham actually used double bass in several various recordings, all the way up to the Physical Graffitti recordings, believe it or not. The band, particularly Jimmy, just asked and preferred that he get rid of his other bass drum. They said it contradicted his style. You should read it though, great book.

  • @DisposableHeroes0 They didn't have double bass drum pedals before 1968.

  • xDD

  • thanks for the insight

  • Oh! it's Jason Bonham! Wao!

He has been similar to his father.

  • Bell cymbal?

  • @Wolverine51324

    bell on the ride

  • Alcoholism is a medical condition It has nothing to do with one's IQ. Judgementality does not help.

  • He drank cause he missed his family...we see how well that worked out. Now whos the idiot again?

  • Who did you direct that to? Me or this Theseventhknight guy?

  • Su padre era un dios a la bateria, sin usar doble pedal.... si quieres enseñar cosas sobre John Henry Bonham, por favor, no uses doble pedal.

  • begin is paul simon's 50 ways:S

  • hey for the intro in rock and roll does the beat come in on the 4th quaver of the bar? cause i keep playing one too many snares or one too few and im confused haha

  • Good Drumer like his father

  • not bonzo but pretty close!

  • Meh, same blood. haha

  • chevere bien touch

  • really relly cool !!

  • I'm a big John Bonham fan. But at the end of the day...there's really nothing John could do that Jason isn't capable of as well. Jason is even better now then when this vid was shot all of those years ago.

  • DO NOT INSULT JOHN BONHAM. He may have drank but his death was an accident.

  • @UAL012 freezing to death with a quart of vodka in you? He was a fucking idiot for drinking that much. If he hadn't been such a fucking idiot, he'd still be alive and we'd all be much, much happier for it.

  • First of all, John Bonham didn't die because of freezing. Second, did you, you fucking bastard, ever tried to go to wikipedia and find out the reason of his drinking? If not, I will tell you - there were even interviews of his relatives which proved that he drank because he was constantly on the road and missed his family. And if you consider a person an idiot for an accident, then you are a bigger dumbass than you seem. To sum up, Bonzo will always be alive, and you will always be an idiot.

  • @grajdrums As a recovering alcoholic, I'm pretty goddamn sure I understand his reasons for drinking. Which also gives me the authority to say that he's a fucking idiot, and if he didn't drink so much he'd've lived much longer, which I think we can all agree would be awesome. There's a difference between "living in his music" and BEING ALIVE.

You should get your head around the fact that there are no good reasons to die of alcohol poisoning.

  • If you are a recovering alcoholic, you're just as big an idiot as you think Bonham was. And besides, watch the "Led Zeppelin Biography", it's somewhere around youtube, and if you have drunk because of your reasons, it doesn't mean that everyone did. I agree that he was foolish and he could have seen what was coming to him, but "fucking idiot"?. And anyway, I kinda more believe his friends interviews than you, and my dad (divorced) was an alcoholic too, so I know what's it like.

  • yeh i fuckin' know I was an idiot. look, you don't seem to be understanding that i love bonham. but i feel like any pain his family felt from being far away from him was far slighter than the pain they felt when he died. And he should not have died, and it was in his control, and he made plenty of stupid mistakes. which we all wish he hadn't made.

  • Yeah, we all made mistakes. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc. for a start.

  • @Theseventhknight No, nothing gives you the authority to say he's a fucking idiot. You are not only a fucking idiot, but an immature twit for saying so. Bonham died YEARS ago. We're over it. The fact that you still insult him for it is fucking ridiculous. It's none of your business. It'd be like me calling your mom a fucking idiot because she died of lung cancer. Give it up.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX

No, I think it'd be more like calling my mom a fucking idiot cause she drank something like forty shots of vodka in a single 24 hour period.

Alternatively, it'd be more like calling my mom a fucking idiot for dying of cancer... because she exposed herself to nuclear radiation for shits and giggles.

I think wishing that he had lived way longer isn't ridiculous at all. I think it would've been great if he had lived to be seventy or eighty like his bandmates. Chill out.

  • @Theseventhknight Yes, it would have, but that doesn't give you the right to call him a fucking idiot because he was an alcoholic. It's not your business, and the family and band members would likely discourage the act and have very little respect for someone like you who makes those claims.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX Deaths by alcoholism suck cause they're preventable.

You're gonna have to trust me on these two claims: I know a pretty damn extensive amount about alcoholism, and I have nothing but the highest respect for John Bonham. I can still respect him and say that he did some stupid shit that led to his premature death.

  • @Theseventhknight I think you sir, clearly dont understand what it is like to be in an alcohol addiction. So dont hate talk someone for being sick in adiction. John Bonham drank himself to death because he was hiding a severe sorrow inside himself.

  • grajdrums... I meant to give you a thumbs up... hit wrong thumb! Sorry.

  • @UAL012 There are no accidents. He drank himself to death. Deal with it. Learn from it. Carry on.

  • @UAL012 how could you possibly know that, did he tell you, was he resurected and then you went and had a coffee with him? Man, i really hate it when people speculate on deaths, when there is death, we mourn, we remember, then we move on. Its disrespectful to cause arguements over it. Led Zeppelin for life.

  • @metalYES12 You make no sense. Bonham's death WAS an accident. The reason that needed to be brought up is that people were talking about Bonham being a drunkard and that he deserved to die.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX Just leave it alone man, those people can bitch and wine all they want, us true fans will always have the deepest love and respect for him.

  • This guy is so underrated.

  • His dad would be proud

  • Not cool in the slightest

  • I love HIS playin´!!!!!!

  • That was great... Thanks fo rpostin this!

    Got any more?!

  • anybody knows which bands jason been playing whit and is playing whit now?

  • last i heard...he was touring w/ Foreigner

  • thanks

  • He's touring with his own band: "BONHAM", on this october.

  • WOAH!!!! Hes got hair.....

  • Jason is a very clever guy and damn good drummer. The outro to this clip is amazingly good.

  • i can not imagine music today without zeppelin, like i cannot imagine drummers today without bonham, rip you legend

  • De tal palo..........

  • "OMFG, I told you no double bass pedal, go to your room."-Dad (3:30)

  • @chickenpotpie1216 He isnt using a double bass pedal

  • @Xiolablu3 from like 3:13 to the end

  • @chickenpotpie1216 His other foot is on the high hat not a double bass

  • @Xiolablu3 That's true, but on this set/kit he does have a double pedal setup.

  • first groove is probably derived from steve gadd 50 ways groove

  • Good drummer, but his father was a god!!!

  • god sake's people stop comparing to his dad! this guy is a freakin' great drummer!

  • LOVE the fill at 3.45! It sounds like it doesn't / can't fit, but he makes it fit somehow!!

  • He's good, but he ain't his daddy, that's for sure.

  • So True :)

  • Jason isn't trying to be his father ... he is just his father's son, and he happens to love drumming just like his father.

  • are you fucking crazy

  • True he's been playing longer, but better than his dad? I really don't think so. No doubt he's a good drummer, but if you really listen to his dad's grooving it's a whole lot heavier. Have you seen moby dick live from the royal albert hall? If not, I humbly suggest you watch that performance. Yes it's long, but try to keep an open mind. I'm trying to with your comment, so please return the favor. I'd love to hear other reason's why he's better than his dad.

  • A beat using the snare drum, bass drum and hihat? Wow - who'd ever thought? LOL!

The ol' boy is right - 99% of drummers play the intro to R&R totally WRONG!

  • To the haters and nay sayers, it's far too easy and even natural to compare father and son but do you really expect a clone?!? Even if JHB had an identical twin their styles would be different so just enjoy good drumming when you hear it.

  • what kind of drums are they jason if you dont mine me asken

  • they're DW drums as that's who he had an endorsement with.

search 'Jason bonham band wait for you' and you'll see him play that same kit

  • I hate when people say 'Jason isn't as good as John'. Sure, he's not the beast that John was, no one ever will be, but Jason, IMO, is more technically proficient, more modern and more dynamic with his playing. No disrespect to John, if anything he's my strongest influence as a drummer but I think that Jason is just as 'good' and in no way bad.

  • Jason is a great drummer, but isn't this supposed to be drum lesson? He does an ok job teaching rock and roll, but he doesn't even tell you how John did it.

  • man this is a gold mine

  • It's apparent that you have never tried Jesus, once you have tried him- nothing else can compare.

When you have tried all the rest, why not try the best!- try Jesus. he will be your friend unto the end.

  • Very nice. Jason has gotten better; his drum sound is 100% better these days. It's not his father's, but then whose is?

Looks like he's using Aquarian drumheads here; horrible in my opinion.

  • well, either way, lets be honest, they are both pretty sick. lol

  • Jason is great just he is not John!

  • Ba ha ha ha No Joke!!! Dont be ignorant.

  • John is God" "Jason is Jesus" Come on Man! Don't say that. That is inappropriate. Give honor to who honor is due but don't equal a human to the Creator of the Universe and all that is contained therein

  • I hope you're kidding.

  • Good call, they're both better than Jesus

  • John is GOD nad Jason is JESUS!

  • *and

  • Awesome! Jason is John reincarnated!

  • Why do you say stupid things? How could he be his father reincarnated? Jason is very good but even he knows he will never out do what his father did.

  • Jason can do some thing John could never do, you know. It's not because he's any better or greater; he's just been lucky enough to have lived longer.

  • Oh yeah, whats that? How does living longer have anything to do with drumming ability?

  • Ugh...

  • What, can you not give me answer?

  • Sure I can. The fact is though, I'm not sure my original statement needs elaborating, but since you're asking;

Jason Bonham has now been playing longer than his Daddy. John was the original, and I suppose it can be argued that he was the best. But I simply haven't seen any evidence (audio or visual) that there was much he could do that his son could not match.

Again, this isn't really about Jason being 'better'... he's just had a much longer time to practice. Anyway, bye.

  • isn't obvious there are advances in percussion that were'nt even created back then

  • your right... everybody should listen to this guy he knows what he's talking about because there have been many more advances since John Bonham but he still is the best, and just because Jason has fancy techniques John didn't dosen't make him better... John was the original and you can't beat the classics and think of it this way, if Bonham didn't start drumming in the first place Jason would have never been that good...where do you think he got most of his technique his father did teach him some

  • I've been playing for years and he is the closest to being Bonham and that's the way it is! don't be an ass!

  • I wish someone would do a tutorial on how to do the new orleans beat.

  • you mean royal orleans?

  • never mind...now i know what you're talking about sry

  • Genial.
