  • The woman in the beginning says something like this: joik is a spontanious and natural way to express yourself. You don't joik ABOUT something, you JOIK something. The man says that you can joik about people, animals, the nature, love lonliness and so on.. I can't translate the joiks though, that's another language ;)

  • Fantastic stuff. I love joik. Managed to get some Saami guys to do some for me once by singing some Irish songs. Don't know what their joiks wer about (probably "I wish this guy would stop bothering me!")

  • Actually I was talking about the guys who I met. One of them made up a joik at the time and mentioned Ireland in the joik. He did it just for the moment, as you will know many joiks are done. I was joking at myself, not them.

  • "Finne" was the old norse name for "sami". On norse "Finnmark" actually means "land of the samis" or "sami ædnan".
