  • Great idea! Very usefull Tutorial. Big thanks

  • Wow, did you invinte this art?

  • you can do this is the daylight as well. you need a 10 stop filter, have it on the darkest setting, and have your f-stop on 22 or higher. depends on what lens you use.

  • @MrOvitch13 Have you done that before?

  • @MrOvitch13 erm? think it would look crap. a ten stopper is to slow down shutter speed. plus a ten stopper will only slow down about 2 or 3 secs in day light.

  • They said i could be anything..so i became Kratos..:P

  • "Don't Cram your wool"

  • Try putting various metal salts into your steel wool for coloured sparks!

    Copper: green

    Potassium: Violet

    Lithium: Red

    Calcium: Orange

  • great tut, thanks

  • I was really excited cause i was like- YEAH MAN MY PICTURES GUNNA LOOK LIKE THAT!!! Then he said, fire... and technical stuff for cameras and i was like... O.O

  • Awesome tricks, man! Have learned alot by reading your first edition E-book, and watching your youtubevideos. Keep up the good work!

  • So thats where that one Gif came from

  • @Colinvokoun What GIF?

  • I looked at my phone when someone was texting you @ 2:02

  • dont forget to put on your safety gloves and goggles!

  • @ragamuffinboi lol Yep! I personally don't use goggles or gloves, but I have to say it because someone out there will end up hurting themselves if I don't.

  • Hi! accept me on facebook if you have.

    I loved your videos

    kisses

  • OMG I DIED< its steel in whool form!! :D

  • Try attaching such structure to a car's wheels/body

    That would be epic

  • POOFED

  • Fucking awesome, thank you for this!

  • Great video mate thanks!

  • long sleeves on your legs too. hahaha

  • dude ur awsome

  • What type of camera do you use?

  • @boyfat1997 He uses a Nikon D300s

  • I really like your work!! :) Any chance you will release your book as a paper book? I'm no fan of e-books.. :( Yes I know.. I'm old-fashioned.. :)

  • duuude your a genius. thanx for the idea :D

  • wow dats greatt!! soo cool. i have a few questions, how many pictures do u take for one location? how do u take ur self out of al the picture wen ur done, AND... cud thses picture be taken with any normal point and shoot camera or u HAVE to have a higher quality, dslr camera?? srry for all the questions :)

  • @Athena341 Im not him but i think i can answer for you. The higher quality SLR will help but not necessary. what is necessary however is a camera that will allow you to shoot at 30 second shutter speeds and other manual settings. Wearing black clothes with reduce the visual of yourself in the picture. If you want to take yourself out completely if there is some showing, then Photoshop is the way to go!

  • Great video! I gonna try it

  • I would use 800 or maybe 1600 iso to get brighter sparks

  • @pjfadriquela No you would use a longer shutter speed anything over 800 1600 ruins picture quality

  • @pjfadriquela or just a wide aperture and reasonably noiseless ISO.

  • Good Stuff BUDDY!

  • Whats Tungsten? on white balance.

  • Thanks for your guide

  • i have done this and coolest ever!

  • "now what is this? This is a whisk that you can get at a thrift store for about 50 cents." No shit? I've never seen one of those before.

    Get to the point!!!

  • How come you dont just use a rope ?

  • @Obalanserad It would catch on fire?

  • Please go to my Photography Blog

    firstcp.blogspot.com

  • Steel wool plus light orb? AMAZING!

  • @photoextremist You sir, are inspired! Where do you get your inspiration to make and take the shots you do? Is it just divine intervention? xD But really, how do you come up with your ideas for these things? The results are really really good! I especially enjoy your long exposure, light work!

  • when i was a kid..

i use these to celebrate new year.. :)

  • Sorry. I can't help myself. This dudes beak is HUGE! It's distracting me...

  • @photoextremist what about on the top of a building with city lights or something in the background. Also could you make a video about water drop photography where the two drops hit and it seems as if the first water drop has a flat umbrella above it? thanks for the ideas and inspiration! keep up the amazing work!

  • thank u soo much

  • Your video was nice lol Thanks for the tips btw

  • What if you don't own any long sleeved pants?

  • @BloatedSensations then get a cheap pair at a thrift store or something

  • @MagicBradley Wow! You know of a thrift store that sells long sleeved pants? Pray tell, where is this magical place?

  • @BloatedSensations I live in North Carolina and long sleeve pants are everywhere.

  • HOLY SHITE... Who else here was completely oblivious to how easily steel wool can be set ablaze lol?

Good thing I never rubbed a 9v battery on some in my living room :)

  • wow awesome work dude!! thnx for the vid:)

  • 9 people are fire wardens.

  • i just did this is it was so awesome and really easy to do and evan you got to make more videos like these please

  • This is the real California arson : D

This is really cool though thanks for sharing!

  • awesome

  • 2:01 You've got a message bro.

  • @BonesTheCat I though that was my phone 'til I read your comment!

  • Really COOL video, gonna try it soon..thanks for sharing.Happy new year from the netherlands...

  • IT would be cool to spin a colored sparkler or led with the wool for added effect. Hummm... Cool Video! THX

  • because asphalt is not flammable

  • "Wear...long sleeves on your legs as well...(pants)."

  • Nice tip. Thank you.

  • 5:14 long sleeves on you legs...

  • sounds too dangerous

  • i love your work! it's stuff like this that got me into photography in the first place. i've tried doing portraiture photography but i'm just not satisfied. i hope to buy this book/video soon :) keep up the great work!

  • Asphalt IS flammable!

it just won't catch fire from your steel wool ... :)

  • Your funny! I actually wanna try some of what you do...just for fun though. I can try going for pictures later.

  • I suggest a small bucket of water and an old large towel or cloth that can be used far more effecient for fire supression.

you might try placing the steel wool in a holder and blowing air through the wool.

  • Cool stuf you do... have you ever try it when there is snow on the ground ? it migd be a nice effect..

  • 2 words: SO COOL

  • ebook for 97 bro? That is expensive. VERY expensive.

  • @TejasM14 It's $97 for the 295 page ebook, bonuses, and 9 hours of video content. Other people sell only 1.5 hours worth of generic content for $49, and others $127 for an hour or two of specialized subject matter, so the price for TPSE actually pretty good

  • @TejasM14 Then i guess you should not buy it, bro?

  • ebook for 97 bro? That is expensive. VERY expensive.

  • so wats the price of the book 97 right

  • Cool video. thanks for sharing.

  • I love wearing long sleeves on my legs. LOL

  • So i dont understand you have to make your shutter speed really high while you are spinning?

  • And what if I don`t have this Tungsten at my camera ? Nikon D5000 ..

  • @sariki09 tungsten mode is the same as "conventional" light - you will have it somewhere - but you'll have to switch AWB off and try the other modes. Even with AWB, your camera will most likely produce excellent results.

  • @atheistthinker1963 Thank you ;) I`ll try it till the end of this week probably ;)

  • @sariki09 use differentwhite balance?

  • How much did 1 pack of 00 wool cost??? 3:27

  • how do you make the wisk not show up in your pics?

  • @bubbyis1337 it won't register if you move it fast enough. The only stuff you see is the bright sparks.

  • what camera takes it?

It is clear that a professional, but it is what?

Can this be done in a conventional camera or a camera Nokia N8?

I'm just the first time confronted with this

  • @AntiSatanAndAdDajjal Pretty much ANY camera can do this if it has a BULB or manual exposure setting. If not, you need the longest possible exposure - usually about 30 seconds. The cameras in phones are usually too inferior for this sort of work - even a cheap compact digital is usually far, far better and a decent digital SLR can be had used from eBay for a few 10s of dollars if you look around.

  • @AntiSatanAndAdDajjal You need camera that have long shutter speed. So phone cameras are not a option :)

You need dslr,(maby some high end digital cameras can be used too.)

  • Thanks for showing this video.I apreeciate your time and effort.I will have to try this!!

  • seen some of ur videos and am completely amazed at the pictures ,great Job and thanks for all the help.

  • Huhu... Very nice.

  • can i ask what kind of lighter did you use?

  • @porfiriaa It doesn't matter - Any lighter that creates a flame will work. I think I was using some old 7up lighter.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks, I really like this

  • Evan thanks for the fine tutorial (and fire hazard warnings - this cannot be overstated). I wonder what exactly is burning here? Does the steel wool have a thin coating of something organic (oil, carbon)?

  • How about having water near by too after?

  • very funny.

  • Ooooh... Going to have to try this some time...

  • for these pics what camera settings would you roughly recommend? eg. iso shutter speed

  • @PhotoExtremist LOL sorry, my bad. I just got excited. I click on the link you have on the description, saw your book and I saw $2.99 right away.

  • how about spinning it on top of a mountain oder a cliff? the stones won't burn i think ;-)... is it possible to create a waterfall of aparks? (crazy person has crazy ideas right now)

  • you are making really interesting and helpful videos!! And you have a nice and funny way to present it =DD

  • I love your videos!

  • if im bald do i need to use caps? =D

  • What's the music in the intro?

  • @Scorpio7500 "8A0F8X" by Vlue ("Vlue" is my music alias... look me up on SoundCloud . com if you are interested, the song is online there)

  • You used a LED to focus.. what are those leds called? and where can i buy them? I would like a like like that, but with velcro... is that the one?

  • @fujimeira Any LED, flash light or any light source will work. Type in "finger LED" into amazon and you might find the same ones i have

  • @PhotoExtremist Thank you very much! =)

btw: very nice videos you have... lots of ideas pop up out of my mind after seeing some of them!

  • Steal wool, it's steal in wool form!!!

    Quote of the day

  • @Toherinator Steel*

  • @Toherinator *Steel

  • i just did that..some sparks went on a cat's tail, and the cat start running and then the whole place went aflame!DEAMN YOU!

  • FANTASTIC video "M" :O) your are an inspiration ! :)))) off to buy my steel wool ..... see ya!

  • This would be good photographed on a High-rise Building from a higher building, on Railway Tracks or in a cemetery...

I wonder if it is possible to (somehow) change the color of the sparks?

  • @clickherephotography photoshop

  • Do you happen to have your ebook on amazon?

  • Tip: try this special effect in a gang infested area--more specifically--next to a wall with lots of graffiti and you will get lots of sparks and light from gunshots in the scene.

  • He sniffed the bag @ 4:15. WTH!

  • I would imagine do this with snow on the ground would be safe AND pretty awesome!

  • You're so cute.

  • you could wait for it to rain heavily on grass or you could just use a hose...

  • /watch?v=6fP0fTnOzV8

  • Very interesting

  • Been watching your videos for the last couple of days and just wanted to say you are very talented. You will go far in photgraphy... Thanks for the tips!

  • You make it relevant! I never understand these instruction-videos, but you explained it WELL. Thank you for that!

  • Best video on YouTube well done!!

  • Loved the video, surely going to try it. !!

  • I have known that about steel wool and how to take that kind of photos for a long long time but never put those together so thank you about this great tip :-)

  • Damn ! i dont have a DSLR digital camera .. i guess fujifilm S200 EXR WONT WORK :(

  • @101MGO well camera where you can manually change teh shutter speed of 3 seconds or more will work. i dont know if your camera can do that or not

  • Comment removed

  • @101MGO

    If you watch e-Bay ...

You can get a used DSLR ,Evolt ,Rebel or E-P1 for around a hundred bucks.

  • Thanks for this, so informative!

  • Extremely helpful man, I always wondered how do they take these kinds of pictures...now I wonder what kind of camera I should get.

  • @earthfreak100 any DSLR

  • @PhotoExtremist Hi, I was wondering instead of a dslr, could I get a dslr bridge (i'm interested in the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 which has all the features of a good dslr minus a swappable lens.

  • you're awesome dude......

  • Great video......did you go to school for any of this?

  • @milamcharlie I took a film photography class in highschool but the only thing I learned in that was how to develop film. I'm self-taught by internet, a couple of books, and experience.

  • 4:16 sniff

  • I love your techniques..so much fun..

  • i like this video

  • Ok, can't wait to try it, but honestly when you put on your glasses I melted :D

  • @adamAamin I'm hotter than burning steel wool.

  • I've seen photos of spark machines bouncing off of people...curious as to the difference in heat between those machine's and this technique. Great info and thanks!

    aF

  • hey how bout if u put the wool surrounding the "thing" and not inside it !! what would be the effect :D

  • Dude- I love this! You are awesome lol

  • Excellent!

  • Great video, awesome photos! you are a good teacher.

  • Cool vid man.. Thanks for the info.

  • what if i want to focus the nightsky and it's pitch black outside? how am i supposed to do it?

  • @negathief if your lens has the infinite symbol on the focus ring then just shift it to that. If there is no focus markers... then focus on the moon, a bright star, or a planet, then switch to manual focus and re-compose. focusing on a house light wayyy out in the distance is just as good IMO

  • @PhotoExtremist I suggest focusing on a light far in the distance because the infinity on most lenses now-a-days are not hard-stop infinities. This means that its infinity somewhere in that vicinity of the infinity symbol. This is because the glass changes slight shape with temperature making the focusing plane change.

  • @ethanspi That's interesting, never thought of the temperature effecting the glass - thanks

  • 2:03.... secrete message?xD

  • @jonniewalk31 hah! I didn't even notice that was in the actual recording. My cellphone periodically interferes with my speakers and makes those noises (and apparently does this to microphones now)

  • Dude u deserve more view and subs ..... True !

  • Cracking video, excellent tutorial.

  • Comment removed

  • Very good video. Love it

  • LOL! I LOVE all your disclaimers that are obvious, but you have to tell people not to light it over a barrel of gasoline bc someone will inevitably do it. Congrats on getting the braces off btw! I'm a new photographer, and I love your videos. The pics are awesome and you make it dummy proof.

  • can the steel wool be reuse after burning??
