why not do both and control where the fight goes. I come from a wrestling background so if I can't get the sweep I just look to stand up and get a takedown and switch positions
Are we back in 1993 again or what? These old arguments are played out man. Are you new to the game? Do you still believe Emil Boztepe can beat anyone out there with his secret techniques?
A lot of people disrespect Judo but in reality Judo is brutal. You combine the throws of a Judo player from the Kodokan with the ground game of BJJ and you have DANGER!!!!!
grappling in general is brutal. judo throw with no mats=fight over (most of the time)...bjj just took basic judo ne waza and ran with it. if Helio had to modify it because it used too much strength, he was evidently doing it wrong.
Helio wasnt doing it wrong, wrestling or trying to take your opponent down with a judo throw takes a lot more strength and energy then grappling on the ground. He also took the illegal moves in judo and put it in his own jiu jitsu..knowing the basics of grappling, balance and leverage he was able to put in a positional strategy where you can end the fight on the ground with ease...bjj is a better more refined blend of judo and jiu jitsu which he made his own
then why does every history of the art say he had to modify it because it took too much strength? ...i said IF this was the case...he was doing it wrong. and if you do the throws right they are quite easy. most of the techniques on the ground and standing you see in bjj comes right out of judo. the biggest difference is that judo doesn't emphasize the ne waza.
true, if you have perfect technique the throws are easy to accomplish..BUT you have to wrestle to get the throws your opponent is not gonna stand there and let you throw him..and that is hard and requires a lot of attributes, speed, athletism etc...and no one is doubting that bjj came from judo..and japanese jiu jitsu..even renzo gracie said it him self..but the way they approached it systematically, and the emphasize of ne waza really made it what it is. kudos gracies.
WTF !?!? Do you even speak english ?
