These guys don't suck live. They're AMAZING!!! In fact, the 1st time I heard them was a live performance on pbs. The very same day I ordered mirror conspiracy on amazon. Don't think I would've done that had they sucked
@qadi0 it definitely has the influence of that culture. The satar is originally from the indian subcontinent. The use of various instruments is part of what makes TC so amazing
This stuff is perfect music to wind down to after a hardcore show, I remember playing the Mirror Conspiracy on a drive back from Bullhead, Arizona and man that album is something else. Just gazing into the head lights of the passing cars and hearing it made me think of another place..and another time.
Love these guys. They have put out some inspirational material. Also getting into the vibes of Unkle, Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, DJ Krush, Morcheeba, Earthling, Portshead, Kruder and Dofrmiester, Bonobo, Allflaws
I don't buy massive histery, cause I know what kind of "energetic parasite" controlls members of that "groups". as someone says ... biggest strategy man in history - Napoleon - "entusiasm is a delirium of mind". oh ye, it is, I saw it on classes, in that excited georges cases. palls who saw some neons of bigger cities and lost mind totally. Napoleon should get "tumb up" for that sentention.
Bizarre! - Someone above said "Thievery Corporation makes great studio albums, but when it comes to Live Performances, the suck!" - I would beg to differ. I just saw them last night at a New Years Eve performance in San Francisco, at "The Sea of Dreams" party, and THEY ROCKED!!! _ Keep in mind this was my first time hearing them...every aspect of their performance was spot on, the musicians were very "into" it and the vibe was had by all! - Long Live TC!
wow haha. never thought I'd hear Indian classical mixed like this. memories from India and life in the US blend together perfectly to create this musical cocktail for my ears
when/where did you see them live? I've been to their show in Melkweg, Amsterdam. They played for almost 2h30mins. (not including support), they invited people on the stage. They had a good vibe with the crowd. Played some old and new stuff. What more can you ask for? did you see them at a big show?
too bad the music industry is busy force feeding us pop. culture and thought. Those performances on shit like the grammys. Are mass rituals that run off the biochemical energy you produce through life and the emotions aroused by sound. The T.v. is a portal. Receiving a response to its spells through your pacification/meditation. Man is a spiritual being. psychically aware to many different degrees. Its time to awaken those who are sleeping.
@kingcosmo93 it is hard not to, bro, it is hard not to. all you need is sense :) i found these guys sober, i loved them, but it is true, drugs did make me understand them better. the two together made me understand life.
@xemh16 then i'm with you man, i'm just saying i've met some people that only say something when they're high yet hypocracy is there natural voice when they're sober, Kno what I mean?
what are you talking about man :), they have a small army of instrumentalists, including an awesome sitar player.. I didn't know the original take of this was Anoushka Shankar, though at concerts they use the guy..
i love them!, i feel very happy with this album. its an interesting project, and very abroad (as they said)... i like the contribution of Femi Kuti and Seu Jorge (Seu was interesting to see in another video live because it was hard for me to imagine him out of the Life aquatic's Belafonte) and the protest they made its done with a lot of beauty, i enjoy their music... they truly transport you, thanks for the post mister KM2909!
in my opinion, ''Radio Retaliation'' is a really beautiful album. I don't know if it's the best of Thievery and sincerely I don't care. Personally, I just enjoy myself when I am listening to it without getting into the process of comparing it with other albums... Referring to their live performance, I will be able to answer to you when i see them live in 10 October in Thessaloniki, Greece...
A good band is always a band that comes up with new stuff every album. Period. "The Richest Man.." was a different album, a different concept! You should expand your musical tastes ;)

I'm sorry to say that this is just an average TC album, just a mere shadow of "Richest man..."
One more thing, TC make good studio albums - but when it comes to live performance they suck ass. Love them still.
