I´m from Brazil and have a GS 500 E 2008, the naked version. unfortunately in Brazil we don´t have the option to buy the GS500 F, and I´m impressed how beautiful is the F version.
The most important is that this bike is beautiful in any versions dont?
It's easy to remove, but making it look good is a trick. The E has a different headlamp that's mounted to the front forks not the front fairing. If you're buying, buy the E. Also someone correct if this is wrong but the F doesn't have mounts on the handlebars for the mirrors.
@Newton131313 The 2009 GS500F does have mirror mounts on the bars. They are on the lever mounts. I cant speak for any other years but my 09 definatly does. Also, the mount for the headlight is held on by two bolts, therefore is removeable. (Ive been thinking about nudity, can you tell?)
I own an 01 and I do 100MPH+ on a pretty regular basis. I think if you ACTUALLY own a GS500 and can't get to 100mph it's because your bikes rider lacks a pair of balls. Without that vital part it probably couldn't do 50mph. Also 47hp isn't much but it only weighs 380lb gives it a huge p2w ratio.
most of the estimates i read say the horsepower is actually around 48-51 and the top speed is around 115, 120 if you are going downhill. It may not be a supersport but it's a solid sport bike.
@LtGlenn Yea if you're running a stock tire and sprocket 115 sounds right but I've upgraded both and get about 130MPH. Also the 89-96 had 52 and the 97-09 have 47hp.
@89powerup The Ninja 500 is like .02 seconds faster and the only tests I can find are on the E model so who knows which is faster using the fairing-ed and more aerodynamics F model.
@Newton131313 The F model is also slightly less powerful (by ~5hp) so I think it would come out about the same. I prefer the E myself, because the headlight is connected to the stationary fairings on the F model so it points in the direction the bike is facing rather than where the handlebars are facing. On the E, it's connected to the fork. A small difference, but very nice for twisty roads. I'm also a newb with motorcycles so to me, fairings just means more to scratch if you drop it :)
@samburger077 They served for aerodynamics on the track but people thought they looked cool so that's why. And yeah they are a pain but if you dump the bike without fairings on it the parts take a beating. Fairings act as a shell.
@britt890 That's why it's preferable to add engine protectors, whatever you call them, naked or not. And fairings can't act as a shield as they don't have the capacity to protect your engine or frame. They're as brittle as biscuits.
@LtGlenn i have an 07. weigh 180 lbs. and have the hardest time imagineable calling it a sportbike. a sportbike to me is an inline 4 cylinder."gsxr, r6" etc. its a v twin semi upright riding position bike. and like a third the horsepower. its a great bike. thats why suzuki hasnt changed much from the late 80s. it would be in the same catagory as the 1989 gs500e. nobody would call that a sportbike. unless they just bought it and want it to sound nice lol.
@rswickx525 The GS 500 has always been considered a commuter bike, and a decent one at that, but Suzuki had added a few touches to it like the sport bike fairings on the F version. By the way, the GS is a parallel twin not a V2. If it were, it would've had better torque, in my opinion.
yeh it will work, i only have 5 cm and 10kgs on you and it works fine on me. my mate sister has a er5 which is roughly similar and she get on fine with it baring in mind she is only 5 foot and 6 stone in wieght
@Shags14 TELL ME ABOUT IT! although i only red lined it once since i had it it only took a month to throw the bearing for a spin and the whole engine dead.. A whole month to get back from the shop!
@alphaman1101 Yeah, I've had to rebuild mine twice now, and its in the shop for the third rebuild as of right now. I mean they are good looking, quick bikes, but they weren't built to raise hell all the time, lol.
ya the stock exhaust is pretty quite...ive got an 06 GS500f but the dark blue and white one and i put a yoshimura trs slip-on on it and it sounds pretty sick now...ive got a vid of it if u wanna check it out

Does anyone know if it's easy to make this into a naked version (remove front fairing)?

you already have a naked version, the GS 500 E (instead of F)... You just buy that one ;)
