Whether they do it on purpose or not I still love how subtle qualities from the book are added into the series. Like in here: in the books, Confessors have long, flowing hair to show their power and authority and Denee had that in the first episode. Now in this one, her hair is short, something that would be worse than death for a Confessor. Wether it's on purpose or not, it still makes my day.
This was a cool episode, but I think it would've been even better if they discovered that the reason Serena's son went psycho is because she failed him as a mother. Just like she's failing her people as a 'Mother Confessor'. Her unstable attitude is so apparent throughout this episode, it's certainly possible. That would've been such an outstanding plot twist.
@baraxor I'm glad you agree about Serena. But I don't think it would've put a bad light on the season finale at all. Here's why. If the writers had gone with my idea about bad parenting, it wouldn't have necessarily painted Kahlan as a bad mother to *her* son, Nicholas. It just means that Nicholas went psycho because he had Darken Rahl for a father.
The sort of magic required to do/undo the power of the Confessors is well beyond the power of even a wizard of the first order, You would need or create things as powerful as Orden, or be a war wizard.
Richard bugs me in this episode with him trying to save that baby. All male confessors are evil from the day they're born and it can't be changed. But no he doesn't listen. His attitude sure changes after the season 1 finale though.

Besides, evil can be conquered by love. Cara is a fine example. She was Rahl's right hand, but Richard trusted her and she is a loyal friend of his.

In a couple of episodes Richard is having a dream that he never left Heartland and that everything he has been through has been a dream... So why can´t they make an episode like that with Kahlan, where she dreams that she is a Mord-Sith... It would have been fun too watch...
The old Mother Confessor was lying when she said that all male confessors have to die. They don't. You can't kill a baby, it's wrong and stupid, particularly when you're a vanishing kind. They had no right to kill that child. If they let it live, then they'll know if he's evil or not. It's the same as judging a book by it's cover
I'm so glad Kahlan is a Mother Confessor now. You wouldn't see her killing baby boys. Not all male Confessors are evil. Not if you raise them right. Richard was right. You can't kill a baby boy confessor because you don't know if it's evil. Killing children is wrong and Confessors are stupid to do so.

I'm the book, when I read that boy Confessors were killed at birth, I felt so sad. It's so cruel to do that to a helpless baby. Then again, everything about the Midlands is cruel.
