it was a throttle and brake problem more than a driver's lack of experience (he had race in all kind of categories in motorsports)..and win..he was used to go 200+ miles/hr...such an unfortunate event..rip gonchi

Garkel´s right. This video is not of Mexican driver Pedro Rodríguez. Pedro was killed in an Interserie sports car race at Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany, on 11 July 1971, at the wheel of a Ferrari 512M of Herbert Müller Racing, his Swiss friend and partner at the Targa Florio in 1971. He wasn´t supposed to race, but due to his speed passion, he accepted the invitation just for the fun of it. He died at the young age of 31.
that was yet another fatal Indicar accident. You are thinking of Jeff Krossnoff hitting the post at Toronto Canada - a great street circuit - but unfortunately that accident was fatal.
I think the cause of the accident is the corkscrew turn. It gave the car air time. Does this ever happen to present day F1 tracks? I don't think so. I must say, the safety features of the car are there, but the circuits didn't. I heard about this other Cart driver who hit a post at a street circuit, I think in the same year or sometime close to Rodriguez's fatal accident.
Umm no. His brakes failed and I heard that his throttle jammed too, and if your brakes fail, F1 track or not, you're pretty much a passenger in your own car. Besides your comment about stuff like this not happening at modern F1 tracks is totally inaccurate. In fact an accident like this happened in 08 at Barcelona when Kovalinen went straight into the wall at 120 mph, and this also happened in 07 at montreal when Kubica hit a bump and had that massive crash.
Kubica crashed because hes front wing broke into million peaces, Kovalainen because of tire failure. And btw this is indy cars not F1, Indy cars are way harder to drive.
Well i think that a professional driver must know that it's can happen, but if it does not happen is better! They must increase safety disposal(sorry for my bad english, but i've been two years without writing in english)
I can´t watch this, its so sad. Well I could never believe it was a drivers error, Gonchi was very good! He was a hell of a nice guy, having a friendly word for everyone. What a loss!
I never feeled anything nationalistic before, but hearing this commentor's voice speaking about the circumstances of a human being death in such a stupid schoolboy's stock-exchange-news manner I must say: STUPID AMERICANS.
that day was a tragic day for uruguayan people... everyone was sad.... i remember that even the radio change their program to remember "gonchi"... and F1 is a very nice sport.. and in fact you could die any day for any cause! so ...a little respect!
I think the problem with this world is that we get rock hard over useless sports like these and then when someone dies we are all dumbfounded. Oh my god....people can die from this? Lol. Stupid people.
gonzalo rodriguez drove a formul ford in the spanish championship as well as my father. They were not really friends, but they know each other..I saw this accident in the TV, with my father...I remember that that day he started crying..It was a horrible accident, Im sure I would have been a great formula 1 driver, what a shame..(sorry for my english)
Sick. According to wikipedia, he deid from a basilar skull fracture, and the cause of the crash remains a mystery, whether it was mechanical failure or driver error.
what kind of f...ing bastard you are? I see shit around here but nothing like you. I hope that you can procreate to let know your son what king of retard you are!!!!
you are all a bunch of idiots, this poor guy Rodriguez was very talented, also, don't the other drivers go fast in that zone? yes they do, because they drive racing cars, they don't run toy cars....
I heard the throttle was stuck and Rodriguez couldn't do anything

Looks like a stuck throttle. He has one of the fronts locked up, not helping.

He says: 116 miles per hour or 160 mph?
186 KM/h or 257 KM/h. A brutal difference!

Rodriguez should not be allowed to race on that week-end, Laguna Seca is a track that needs much more training than he actually did.

The cause of the accident was overheated brakes. Due to heat, the brake wire burned and snapped causing the car to be unstoppable.
