The two statements are not incompatable. Just because Bill, or Glenn or Rush is part of a union doesn't mean they have to overlook some of the problems with unions. The teachers unions are the biggest problem our educational system has. They fight to keep incompetent teachers on the job and repeatedly push policies that put teachers interests above the needs of students. Not all unions are equal, some are good, some are needed some have gone too far and some are problems not solutions.
We're already competing with them. They're winning. India's an awesome place. China I can't vouch for personally, but people who've visited in recent years are impressed by the modernity of the modern parts and simultaneously repulsed by the old world scary poverty stricken parts, which are as close to mediaeval as you could imagine existing in the 21st century.

Unions are important...but IMO the most important is to eliminate corruption and inefficiency in government and companies, even at their own expense...similar to Smiths invisible individual hand, our modern economies have been replaced by selfish groups, like PACS, lobbyists, unions, etc...I'm surprised there isn't a book discussing how the invisible hand has evolved into an invisible mitten..serving essentially the same purposes Smith demonstrated, just with the selfish group as the driver...

Unions have about half as much actual power as Wall Street or large corporations in general, and mostly legislation they support is going to be, well, bad for everyone else. Unions are a very effective way for workers to protect their self interests when it comes to negotiating with their employers. As long as no one is threatened in any way to join, stay, or pay into the Union and as long as an employer can hire anyone in world for whatever wage they mutually agree to.
But the fact is, no matter who your employer is, if they could get away with paying you as little as in China.... they would.
Now what happens to an employee who is hired in a union dominated workplace (where wages have already been set) well then the employer gains leverage, and as more non union workers are employed, the more likely he/she is to lower wages.

Unions have about half as much actual power as Wall Street or large corporations in general, and mostly legislation they support is going to be, well, bad for everyone else. Monopolies are one of the most inefficient forms of business there exist but they are also ultimately what forms if Capitalism is left unrestrained.. Competition is what drives the invisible hand not selfishness.. you can have political ideology or some other driving human force but ultimately the invisible hand is competition between humans and the human free will.. take away one or the other and it fails.

Not really. Monopolies don't tend to form in unrestrained Capitalism. At least historically, there are very few examples, if any, of monopolies forming without State intervention or having some sort of regulation to protect them for a considerable period of time.

The Rocker fellers, Morgans, Carnegies and they were just the American ones. Other nations had their own, mostly due to the fact that multi-nationals haven't come to fore. This lead to massive abuses of the workers which ultimately lead to Communism rise.

Not really. Both Carnegie, Rockefeller and Morgans all were losing their monopoly status by the beginning of the 20th century without Government intervention.
Communism was strongest in the Kaiser's Germany and then Tsarist Russia after that. Possibly two of the least free markets in the Western world. In fact the latter still maintained feudalism till the late 18th century. So, the concept that monopolies led to communism is just false.

Unions are a very effective way for workers to protect their self interests when it comes to negotiating with their employers. As long as no one is threatened in any way to join, stay, or pay into the Union and as long as an employer can hire anyone in world for whatever wage they mutually agree to.

But the fact is, no matter who your employer is, if they could get away with paying you as little as in China.... they would.
Now what happens to an employee who is hired in a union dominated workplace (where wages have already been set) well then the employer gains leverage, and as more non union workers are employed, the more likely he/she is to lower wages.
