  • This is a beautiful performance. Clearly Stratas understood the dramatic complexity of the role, and performed it accordingly. No it's not always a "beautiful" performance of the song, but I think that as we, as an opera-enjoying audience, have the very simple ability of understanding why she sacrificed purity of sound for dramatic effect.

  • i LOVE stratas in that scene, she's my favorite opera singer from now on

  • i feel like florence is like a mezzo version or L. Price. Such a creamy floaty sound...like butter :). Her legacy is not as huge as it should/could be but she a WONDERFUL. And Stratas....The High C is GREAT...so dramatic and heartfelt.

  • She forgets about trying 2 makes pretty sounds and just SINGS. Stratas becomes lost in her world and nothing breaks her concentration. She's caught up in, indeed, nostalgia. There's just such a commitment to the drama that is only paralleled to very few singers. Vocally speaking, can you believe after that fabulously placed and succeeded high C, she still has the energy to finish that phrase with flair. Any beauty lost in the voice was made-up with an utter, real commitment to the drama.

  • Absolutely right!!! Incredible version. And the best high C I've heard in youtube. Bravissima Teresa!!!!

  • TERESA DIVINA!

  • Watch this one in opera analysis class last semester. Good stuff.

  • Teresa is sooooooo great in this scene !!!

    Hans NL

  • This is such a tearful moment in the opera, in my opinion even sadder than the ending.

  • FUCK YOU! you know nothing of Opera if you think this is bad

  • Tu non sei de Medici però di m...... Non sai nulla d'opera. Taci, taci, taci.

  • I love Stratas so much. Domingo is in great voice. I love this music!! She sings so great.

  • She looks like she's doing the last act of Traviata...

  • Teresa Stratas..I Love This Woman, what a great Artist

  • Yes , but don't forget also Placido Domingo and above al : Teresa Stratas , she is absolutely Great !!! What an actress , very very close to a certain .....Maria C

  • You know, it is such a disservice that there is not much on here of this wonderful mezzo-soprano. Why is that? She is one of the best in the world!!!!

  • I'm told she is not more well known because the voice is not large in real life (recordings are different). Her alto arias on the Andrew Davis Messiah (with Battle also) are wonderful.

  • THAT is not true!!! Her voice is huge in real life!!!! You speak NONSENSE!!!

  • I said 'I'M TOLD', ie, it is not my opinion but that of OTHER PEOPLE. I have never heard her live but friends who have seen her live on occasion have mentioned it to me, thats all.

  • As someone who enjoyed Florence at the Met for years I can tell you that her voice is quite large. I don't know who you have been talking to but they are mistaken. I have never read any comments of that kind either from any music critic. Personally I don't think she has gone as "un-noticed" as others have commented. She has made a decent size discography of concert literature. I personally own over a dozen cds with her on them. Sadly, she only made one solo album.

  • She is one of the best mezzos in world PERIOD. Which album are you talking about? I remember when she made the sprituals album.

  • Yes the album of spirituals is her only solo album but she did sing on a number of full opera recordings and in a number of concert recordings. There are also a handful of television appearances which are available on DVD.

  • Just beautiful florence

  • me encanto este video como sera que puedo acceder a una copia de este material gracias desde asuncion del paraguay miguel, angel coronel
