  • Thank you Bryn for setting the record straight out there.....Fleur de Lys were an amazing band in every inception...Your work in particular Bryn amazing! You had all those Steve Cropper licks down:)

  • Sorry guys - it wasn't Jimmy Page on guitar; at that time Phil Sawyer was playing guitar. I took over when he left! Bryn

  • @brynsongs

If you belive all the poat on here Page played on every song recorded between 64 and 69. People seem to forget Sayers , Eddie Phillips etc were just as good and at times lead the way. Tom

  • @highschoolmusical841

Think you will find its all myth he played on this or any other track. There drummer comments on here at times.

    Tom

  • It has the distinctive sound of a Fender Telecaster.

  • @ADollsHouse420 Yep, an ORIGINAL is back, and for the zillionth time I'm here to say again that Jimmy Page was nowhere near the studio when this track was laid down. Lead guitar on this is Phil Sawyer, no ifs or buts, ok? Also mate, it was no Danelectro!!

    Fleurdrums

  • WTF?? i love this song!! :P

  • Jimmy Page produced it he didnt play guitar on it. Phil Sawyer blew Keith Richards away when he first listened to thi track.

  • Phil Sawyer? That explains why it's so good. Sawyer's playing on Spencer Davis Group's 'Don't Want You Know More' (1967) is some stinging Telecaster work that still blows me and my guitarist friends away. Sawyer also did great vocals on the original version of that tune, though after he left, organist Eddie Hardin's voice was overdubbed for the 'With His New Fact On' album version. It's interesting how Page gets a lot of credit for stuff he didn't do. Like write a lot of those Zep compositions.

  • @ADollsHouse420

One of the ORIGINAL members of the band has been commenting on some of the tracks. He might pop up and answer you on this as has already said Page did not play on another.

    Tom

  • ONCE AND FOR ALL!! It's not Jimmy Page playing the guitar solo on this, it is Phil Sawyer. I'm getting really bored now of people assuming it's Jimmy, and I'm putting that theory out with the trash right now. I should know, I was there!

  • Yes people this is Jimmy Page on guitar!!! The same Telecaster I believe he used with Zep!!!

  • Good version but doesn't quite have the sonic punch that only a group like the WHO could produce.

  • @jayrox40

I don't have a fave version of this track

    Tom

  • Brian Mathew played this on BBC R2's Sounds of the 60s at the weekend, said that it was Jimmy Page on guitar.

  • @wolverine37x

DID HE !!!! off to re read notes , they were from just up the road from me

    Tom

  • @wolverine37x It's Phil Sawyer, who was later in the spencer davis group. That rumor/myth seriously needs to die already.

  • a really mod root song, kinda goin´ back to feelin´ of 66/67.

  • Would have to agree that this is the best version.

  • Boss ....♥

  • Better version than the original by The Who (Townshend)

  • @sinning1966

I like them both the same , have there own merits

    Tom

  • @sinning1966 I agree, I always dislike the who's version, pretty boring

  • To my mind, there are only two instances where a cover version beats the original, hands down: one is The Stranglers' version of .'Walk On By', & this is the other one. Pure class, this is.

  • Good cover but the Who's original is still my fave, you can't beat ol Moonie on the drums!!!!!!!

  • awesome version and the best in my opinion for what that's worth. love the who one too , i just love the song!

  • they sound just like The Who

  • Sounds like Les Fleur De Lys lol . I have uploaded the who's vesion .

    Tom

  • @s2trash

    Thanks for comment

    Tom

  • Dude, this sounds nothing like The Who, or their version of it.

Great guitar work here...can't find that in The Who.

Bad drumming...won't find that in The Who.

Minimal bass work...not in The Who.

Terrible singing here...not in The Who.

  • @asmorgan88 What are you talking about, Pete's a great guitarist, He knew what he was doing.

  • @havepie

You can think that, it's fine...

Pete was a fantastic rhythm guitarist...and a fucking shitty, horrid lead guitarist at best.

I'm referring to the lead display by Jimmy Page here...he rips this tune apart with his solo. Pete was a great songwriter, composer, musician, and rhythm guitarist...but he wasn't a good lead guitarist by any means, therefore he's not a good guitarist. Good guitarists are well rounded.

Jimmy Page was a well rounded guitarist...as this tune displays.

  • @asmorgan88 If your comparing him to Page, thats an unfair comparison, Pete did what he needed to do for The Who, He could play the damn instrument, and he could play it damn well, I mean thats like comparing Pete townshend writing to jimmy pages for god's sake.

  • @havepie

That's not unfair - they both play guitar in their bands. They were peers, playing during the same time. People compare guitarists to other guitarists.

Page is a better guitarist, Pete is a better songwriter...

He was a good rhythm guitarist, but a shitty lead guitarist...therefore he's not a good guitarist. Good guitarists are well-rounded...

Kyle Korver is one hell of a 3 point shooter, but sucks at everything else...therefore he's not a good basketball player.

  • @asmorgan88

Can he make Tea with milk and 3 sugars ?

    Tom

  • @s2trash

He can - I'm just pretty sure he doesn't like that many sugars in it...skim milk too.

  • @asmorgan88

    Thanks on th comment front

  • @asmorgan88

    Sounds like Stone Roses

  • @roytonmax

Sounds like Stone Roses !!!! can't see that myself

    Tom

  • @s2trash

Should really have said Stone Roses sound like them, only my opinion but the vocal style and the janggly guitar sound similiar

  • freakbeat !

  • It is indeed Jimmy Page on lead. This was recorded when Jimmy was a session guitarist, pre-Yardbirds

  • IT'SJIMMY PAGE ON LEAD,FOLKS-FACT!

  • Is this fact because there is no credit to him ????? were did you get that info from and can you back it up with full proff as if true great little snipit

    Tom

  • @s2trash It is true, cba to find proof but i was speaking to clark from autum stone, a mod band, and he covers this and turns out that jimmy page was happened to be in the studio at the time :D so they recorded it with him :) .

  • @pornaintbad

    Top chap

    Thanks , Tom

  • @pornaintbad check out ed ward's profile of Page's pre-Zep work on npr.com. Page played on seemingly half the stuff that came out of the UK in the mid 60s. As Ward put it, back then the producers wanted to bang out singles fast and cheap so they brought in Page and other studio guys to get it right the first time. That's why George Martin booked Andy White for the Beatles' Love Me Do session ... he didn't know if Ringo was good enough yet and didn't want to waste expensive studio time learning

  • TOTALLY new to me, it's a goody!

    Shey

  • wonderful sound !

    Tom

  • yh keith is my great uncle

he told me he lived with hendrix in a flat for a period of time. I think he said it was the animals flat in london. Cos they were on the same label at the time.

  • Thanks for that , any more that comes to light keep posting

    Tom

  • Love to know what you wrote ?

    Tom

  • TUNE!!
