  • that older guy must still be in pretty good shape because i carried a 10 gauge around for a day and my arms were sore

  • A splendid video of a real gent and passionate Big Bore owner. I believe this Tolley is a 4 inch chamber or larger, so would weigh c15-17lbs in weight. It can therefore easily fire 2 3/4 or 3oz of shot without undue recoil or pain for the user due to its weight, and Tolley were specialists in this type of gun so it will invariably be of good quality. Cartridges are not (generally) available widely or commercially, so most big bore users homeload - either plastic or brass reloads.

  • my idiot friend thinks tht theres no such thing as 8 gauges

  • @buffboy6197 I own one so I guess it must be magic!

  • I really want one of these :/ ... any ideas on where to obtain one

  • 0:51 that sounds like a fart in the background! lmao

  • I used a single barrelled 8-gauge in South Africa. Never again! No wonder the head ranger was laughing his arse off when he handed it to me.

  • I flinched just thinking of the recoil

  • he's kinda close to those houses back there..

  • Shh! Be vewy, vewwy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits!

  • this is worth so much money.

  • Methinks someone needs a 21.2 mm Boresnake?

  • no hearing protection!!!

  • @Quaboosttro Hearing protection is not used in game hunting such such as waterfowl,as it hinders your ability to here the oncoming animal.

  • @mustachio474

I pop some ear plugs in right before I fire...My father used to say the same thing you just said to me, but now he needs to turn his hearing aids up in order to hear game moving in!

  • Is this in the U.S.

  • @870Remington12 No, the description says Fife, which is in Scotland, UK.

  • If you ring up Holland & Holland they will be more then glad to build one for you but, be prepared to whip out over $100,000 for one.

  • master chief has an 8 guage!

  • @TheBillbirk so does Hitch Everett (from Appaloosa. he uses an 8 gauge)

  • @Bikedirt, punt guns are also about an 8 gauge I think, but that's a gun that's so big you mount it on a punt (boat). You load it the night before, or before your trip, sneak up on a flock of birds sleeping on the water, and then fire a single shot. These are muzzle loaders, so there's no bullet at all (very old gun) and are jam packed with so much lead it basically vaporises anything too close to it. I've never heard of a hand held 8 gauge, but I could be wrong.

  • @BlazzaBlu Uhm, there's a shotgun called the 2 bore. Or 2 gauge if you want to call it that. Look up 2 bore on wikipedia, and you can even find a video by shooting times where they use it. It's a ridicolously overpowered firearm, and is not necessary even for big game shooting. But it still exists :P

  • @BlazzaBlu you can't load a gun the night before... it is illegal

  • @axpxoxlxlxo This is true, but I assume punt guns are also illegal now, or at least using them in their original intended fashion, so it's kind of a moot point :p

  • I'm sorry to say, that's a 12 gauge. The only 8 gauge shotgun I've ever seen is a mounted industrial weapon, used for cleaning out brick kilns.

As someone said earlier, gauge and caliber are very different. Caliber is, more or less, just a measurement of the bore. .22 cal - .22 of an inch.

Gauge is more complicated. If you had a solid slug for a 12 gauge shotgun, made out of lead, that slug would weigh one 12th of a pound. An 8 gauge, that slug would weigh one 8th of a pound.

  • @BlazzaBlu idk thats mostly right except i was at the range yesterday and the owner end up bringing out his 8gauge, its mostly a bird gun i mean thats what he uses it for, and the reason you dont see them that often is because the shells are so expensive and hard to find most people dont think its worth even trying to find one.

  • @BlazzaBlu Yes and the 2 bore exists. Wich can have a slug of half a pound. And it's handheld. Check out the 2 bore on wikipedia. You can also find a video of it here on youtube, by shooting times.

  • 8 Gauge for whenever your hunting charging bison or a cloud of waterfowl XD

Its really neat to see an old guy in a newsboy cap out with his dog hunting like that. It's a really iconic picture though rarely seen.

  • are these like more powerfull then a 12guage, and is the 12 guage more pwoerfull then the 20? (don't know guns well lol)

  • @coryrbk Ya, the smaller the number, the more powerful it is- with shotguns anyway. 'Gauge' is different than 'caliber'

  • @PhantomP63 Oh ok mate, thanks, lol that makes sense :)

  • They also had a 4 Ga.

  • I would chop my legs off with a rusty saw for an opportunity like that, such a same that the shooting sports are slowly dying in our troubled country!

  • imagine the 2 gauge....omg.....

  • @flashfire320 0 gauge can only befired out of chuck norris's finger tips

  • that'd be comedy if it went out somehow to a freak accident due to the age of the gun and blew the dudes whole head off.

  • @cleansing666 not really.. no.

  • 8 gauge has same kick as a 3.5" 12 gauge . 8's usally weigh around 11-15 lbs

  • They used 8 gauge shotguns in the 1800's for commerical hunters and manufacted them for a short while and only in double barrel side by side they stoped making them in 1901. no semi or pump where ever made and none are manufacted today.

  • those newspapers are scratching the hell out of your bore, just so you know

  • 8 bore nice!!home loads only . as far as i know theres no company that makes 8 bore cartriges even with home loads i bet they cost about £3-£4 ($5-$6) A pop but what a pop!!!!!

  • I believe there is ONLY side by side 8 gauges and larger. There are 10 gauge autoloaders though that are gas operated, nothing larger

  • NO your not any more

  • are you allowed to hunt waterfowl with lead shot over there?

  • ive never seen a semi auto 8 gauge, just double, and once a custom made 8 gauge single shot, break action going for 10 grand at a gun auction.

  • Where have you EVER seen an 8 gauge semi-auto shotgun?! Seriously, please let me know.

  • And where to find shells for one!

  • My dad's friend has an 8 gauge pump shotgun, at least i think i recall it as a pump. but i know for sure that it is an 8 guage...

  • There wasn't any 8 gauge pump action shotguns. The biggest pump action produced is brownings bps 10 guage which is still produced today

  • @JtsGreene I meant to say 10 gauge, lol

  • my grandpa has one

  • @indy498 I'd sincerely like to know who the hell manufactures the "pump" and "semi-auto" 8-gauges you guys are talking about. I know for sure no one in America makes/made them.

  • @VanillaGorillaSS, I am pretty sure they were only made in Double barrel and Single barrel.

  • @NathansBackwoods Exactly. I got the other dude a few comments down trying to tell me there's a semi-auto 8 gauge, and I'm trying to tell him: "you're smoking crack", haha

  • @VanillaGorillaSS yea ive seen a semi 10,but an 8 just doesnt seem right

  • @VanillaGorillaSS nope. theres no such thing as a semi auto 8 gauge. the 8 gauge is such an old round its only avalible is side by side or O/U

  • @VanillaGorillaSS they dont sell them semi auto but if you file down the pin you can make it semi auto

  • @VanillaGorillaSS i do believe your thinking of chuck norris' penis

  • @VanillaGorillaSS the one in the video isnt semi auto if thats what your thinking

  • @VanillaGorillaSS never seen a semi auto but the shotgun from the video game HALO uses a 8 gauge shell and its a pump action.

  • @gh0strider117: wow, who gives 2 shits about what some dumbass video game has to say?

  • @PooPoo2U well that is the time i have ever sen an 8 gauge in action dickhead.

  • @gh0strider117: that's not seeing something "in action", that's seeing something IN ANIMATION.

  • @VanillaGorillaSS its just a double barrel a old gun

  • Im more into rifles and revolvers but if i would get a shotgun i would get this one.

  • the main reason, that shotguns and ammunition like this isn't made anymore, is because you don't need it for anything. 10 and 12 gauge are enough in millitary or hunting business. it's kinda sad, i think, but the only thing you could use it, is in the case of a zombie apocalypse as some games of nowadays show, or maybe to conquer extraterrestrial life forms, that aren't nice to us.

  • 10 gauge shotguns arent even used in military. 12 is the main round for military and hunters with a shotgun. and you could use a round like this for maybe waterfowl hunting like this guy

  • You know where I could find one, or a website that has pics and videos? The only place I've seen a double barrel 8ga was on the movie Appaloosa.

  • My grandfather gifted me one of this, I am scared to use it....usually use a 12-gauge...

  • Want to sell it?

  • Don't really want to sell it...I want to keep it as a collectible.

  • @ServerMaster42 do you want to sell it.

  • @ServerMaster42 it's a blackpowder gun and is loaded with 2oz of shot. it's not any worse than a normal 3" turkey load in your 12ga

  • @ServerMaster42 Oh cool than can I have that 8 gauge you don't want? Because I am prepared to give you 100,000 dollars for it but yah, 8 gauge a freaking shoulder cannon.

  • Bama Shooter,

The truth will set you free ! Tell it finally for god's sake, quit lying to people about your Blackwater past. You are not nor will you ever be a contractor, or a man for that matter. I bet your old lady is real fucking proud of you, being the "cool" internet hero and all. Go suck a muzzle bitch !

  • this guy is cool like this vid

  • u can get them but only for boomers cuz they kill to many ducks and gesse 10 gauge what i have they can be high but they will fall dont shoot them to closse or ur duck going be in tiny pices

  • i thought firearms were banned in england?

  • nope

  • dont think , jus sit there and say nothing , you should not even own a computer coming out with a statement like that

  • You are right. But,that's in US.This is in UK.You can shoot with 4 bore or even 2 bore.Punt gunning is also legal.

  • proud shooter off an 4 bore tolley single :)

  • great video how bad do they kick

  • hurry reload faster more birds lol

  • good video, shame we didn´t see what he got.

    What did he shoot there?

  • Comment removed

  • i didnt think shotguns that powerful exsisted.

  • 0:40

The ultimate image of a true Englishman. :)

  • if you want yo fuckin shoulder disconnected

  • i want an 8 gauge!

  • Yeah me to. Its sucks that you cant own one in America now without the proper papers.

  • M8DMAN you do not need any special papers to own an 8 in the us, BATF does not regulate these.

U.S. water fowl laws regulate the max Gauge to a 10.

  • the iron sight at the muzzle of the gun scares me.... its like a shart fin and a buzz saw combined :|

  • if you shoot a fowl....with an 8 gauge....would there be anything left?

  • Because its shotgun,,,,,,

  • yeah i know but i'm sayin that's like overkill for a bird.

  • we are all children of god ;P

  • For some reason old British people are easy to listen too, lol

  • Very nice video. I think i can feel the fever starting!!

Enough of summer....Roll on September 1st!!

  • Too bad they don't make 8 gauges anymore.

  • Who The hell marked my comment as being poor?? It was a thumbs up comment! ... I Hate You guys!.. *cries* ... LOL! XD

  • Classing a fowling piece a "weapon" just doesn't sit well with most shooters over here!! : )

  • It sure looked like a weapon to me in the movie "Appaloosa", lol! And besides, if it shoots/pokes/cuts/impales/etc.., I'm pretty sure it can and will be classed as a 'weapon' at some point or another. Ex: A pocket knife isn't classed as a weapon either. that is not untill you use it to attack someone with by cutting or stabbing. Then it WILL be classed as a weapon because it was used as such.

  • someone said they have never seen a double barrel 8 guage, ha

  • and then put that autoloader with a rifle, so that it is an awsume weapon system

  • You know what would be awesome? An 8-Gauge autoloader.

  • And then a good Orthopedic Dr to put your shoulder back together.........

  • Not really, autoloaders kick a lot less than a pump or double-barrel of the same caliber because of the cycling system.

  • this is the gauge of shot that the shotgun in Halo uses. exept its a Pump. I would love to shoot it.

  • fowling? with an 8ga? more like pterodactyling

  • dragoning is more accurate...

  • WHAT?!? They don't make 8 gauge anymore?? Aww crap! Thats a total kick in my nuts cause I was really wanting to get one 8(

  • because the kick was so bad

  • That doesn't matter.. I still would have got one! Besides, with todays advances in weapons technology, I'm sure the recoil of a modern 8 Gauge would be a non-issue.

  • well, learn how to make one, make one, and then learn how to make the ammo, and make some ammo, and the government can not stop you, you made, so the laws concerning gun laws can not apply to you, ha!

  • wow dude.. your comment confused the hell out of me! lol! took me a couple of trys to figure out what you were saying. And ya, I kinda doubt I'll be making my own 8 gauge shotgun any time soon.

  • damn powerful

  • really do love the 8 gauge (my great granfather bought 1 i got to have it but it died on me, the barrels split, someone fired steel slugs out of it, if you guys are really serious you can have one built for you but ammo and parts are all but gone and the quality of the gun is completly up to the gunsmith lastly its expensive my friend had one made and it cost him 30,000 euros but if you guys want the feeling of a 8 get a 10 s/s and fire some heavy rounds out of it

    -from greece

  • We've got to get hold of one in case of a zombie apocalypse.

We've got to be prepared man!

  • Seen appaloosa? that is a badass weapon. i wanna see him take down some mighty beast with a slug from that puppy

  • they still do make 10 gauges but not 8s it would cost u alot of money to get an 8

  • couldnt you just bore out a 10 gauge sxs with thick barrels

  • That's a big ol' shotgun

  • I have got to have one of these

  • good luck they do not mack them aney more

  • do thay still mack hucked on phonics?

  • i got a 10 gauge my grandad left to me and i know they dont make them anymore. i highly doubt you could find an 8 without a hell of alot of trouble

  • they still make 10s you can even get commercial ammo for them tho its gotten kinda pricy like $25 a box. for 25 shells. look on the browning gold lable shotgun its a 10 guage pump shotgun.

  • Very nice! I would love to have that gun! I have a Double brl 12 gauge shotgun made by Remington in 1894. If anybody knows the history of this model I would like to hear from you.

  • Now that's a hard to find gun.

  • I wish I could be that refined. Waterfowling to me means ruining your gun in the mud an rain and wearing fourth hand camo rags while soaking yourself in a swamp waiting for wood ducks ;)

  • Very nice old shotgun. I bet that thing weighs at least 16 pounds because my Richland Arms 10 gauge SxS with 32 inch barrels easily weighs 12 pounds. 8 gauge shells must also be pretty expensive.

  • where can u buy 8 gauge or 10 gauge shotguns and their ammo?

  • you cant buy the gun

  • cabelas has this gun for sale in their gun libary for 9000$ tolley sxs 8 bore/gauge 40 inch barrels

  • fucking cannon

  • appaloosa contains a 12 gauge shotgun made to look like and fire 8 gauge shotgun shells

  • 8 Gauge was banned in the US for waterfowl hunting in 1938. Nobody cared because it was so bulky and cumbersome.

  • That's an amazing shotgun, there is a double barrel 8 gauge in the new western appaloosa. Man, I would love to take a couple shots with this thing.

  • Interesting film, thanks for posting James.

  • Thats one hell of an elephant gun lol.

  • wow! a 8 gauge side-by-side, now thats a very rare gun!

  • Old time African hunters like Samuel Baker favored 4-bore and even 2-bore shotguns... don't ask me what for, I read it in one of the late Peter Capstick's books.

  • biggest handhld shotgun i've ever seen, dammit i want want now! Too bad that shotguns are only allowed up to 12 gauge here in denmark!

  • They make a 6.5 gauge shotgun in the Ukraine. That fires 1/2 pound of lead. Its so powerful about half of the people that fired it have fractured their shoulder or broken their arm, its called the KS-23 shotgun.

  • isn't an 8 gauge a real kick i mean can even kill a bear rather than piss it off like 12 gauge?

  • how long are those shells?

  • 4.5 inches usually, they are cardboard shells not plastic ones like today

  • diiing that sa big gun

  • Sorry to burst your bubble ronin, but not everyone lives in the states, and also, illegal to hunt with, doesn't mean illegal to own or target shoot with.

  • Not many ducks or geese in the UK I take it?

  • can people shoot on the coast or do you need land permishon for shooting. i live in newton le willows. nearest coast is southport.

  • I'd like to know that too, seems from the vid the guy is on a public beach.

I used to live in southport.

  • Sorry to burst everyones bubble here, but I am pretty sure that 8 gauge shotguns are illegal nowadays... At least that is what I have read.

  • It's legal in the UK, just not easy to find the ammo.

  • Do they still make new ones? Custom? I just don't know anything about these guns.

  • i have a 12 gauge but not a 8

  • i have always wanted a 8 gauge

  • though its really stupid for me to say the shotgun in halo is an 8 gauge

still wouldent it be better used on bears then BIRDS

    I LOVE GUNS

  • Almost like portable flack cannons. They have better range obviously.

  • wow that things huge

  • That's what SHE said!

  • What do you mean?

  • 8s are a typically British thing, but they can't be cheap to fire now that lead is banned.

I use to work with John Marchington at Jeffreys gunshop in Guildford. I'm wondering if this is the same 8 that was in the showroom when I was there?

  • hells-yeah

  • thats a large firearm

  • Excellent video by all means. I'd like to view more similar video postings on large bore shotguns in action in the future.

  • the british 8ga is less powerful than a 12ga 3.5in

8ga industrial wont fit in a shotgun

it has a metal band on the brass for safty reasons. i know a guy that made a single shot 8ga ind. mag from a 20mm mg barrel

recoil was worse than a 50bmg rifle

    3oz slug at 1744fps

27 lb gun is ok at the range but i wouldnt want to carry it in the forrest all day

8ga wad .84 diameter 1.225 tall holds alot of buckshot

its illegal to hunt waterfowl in the US with guns larger than 10ga

  • yeah they aren't made in north america anymore, that much i do know. apparently they can still be bought in the uk, or as you said, if i find one at an auction.

  • and how much is that? 2 1/4 ounces?

the 3.5 inch turkey loads from winchestor that i buy for my 12 gauge have 2 1/4 ounces of shot, talk about massive recoil!!
