I 'gotta say I Love the sound of this song. He has a lot of great songs, but I have to say this one would be at the top of my list. Thanks for this post.
I can't decide whether I love or hate the fact that this song is under three minutes long. On the one hand it's distilled, to the point, and friggen awesome. On the other, some elaboration in the solos would be great... and who couldn't jam to this for ten minutes?
Tom petty is fucking awesome... He was rockin before I was born and still rockin today, and fuck that one guy who disliked... he must like rap or some such shit
This song's great but please STFU about someone not liking it you fascists, even if they really didn't like it (which I doubt), it shouldn't matter, it's called a difference of opinion. Fuck.
i saw the peter bogdanovich docu film on BBC 4 recently and was blown away! tom has come a long way.his band is awesome especially mike campbell and benmont tench truly great players.not forgettin' stan lynch and ron blair they are just a great rock nroll band! tom did not compromise and just did his own thing and hat,s off to the guy,he held his ground when MCA jerked him around and he beat em'!
Amazingly sexy song from a great debut album, his delivery is so slinky and the band just ooze charisma, plus backing singers....wow is there anything better!!
@Slicegirl777 - Yeah, but listening to a recording of a live performance is like watching a fireworks display on a small tv - it's just not the same as being there. I prefer studio albums myself.
there is a documentary that bogdonavich did on TP which if u have not seen it u must. it will blow yur mind. im not saying he is better than the beatles or Led Zep,but u cant deny he is most xclent.luv fr.the getgo. anything he does is allright! and i am freefalling &listening to my heart. been with him since the beginning, 4ever in blue jeans
sometimes when i hear this my left foot gets really sore and then i need to massage it for hours and then miraculously the pain subsides...then i eat chocolate and i feel like i have just been on a roller coaster for hours...
@kimberkiki Kimberkiki, I hope you don't take offense when I express my opinion that that's a very unusual reaction to this song. When I listen to it, I get the sensation of centipedes crawling up and down my legs in combination with the faint aroma of sassafras. This is the normal reaction to this music. You may want to seek a doctor of some kind.
Note that computer recording has destroyed much of the incentive to become an excellent musician. So many of today's bands are 'created' in a pc and cannot cut it live. To their credit, a few producers and a few bands use ProTools merely as a recording and mixing device, not a fix-all crap tool.
To all of you fans of digital recording. This was an analog recording to a Stephens machine. Even in this mediocre mp3 version, it smokes anything in the top 10 today, in terms of clarity and depth, size and detail. AND, the band played every note, no samples, no cut and paste, none of the time wasting that goes on all over the world today. Get an original LP of this and then go out and buy a two-inch American-made machine. All of them smoke the Studers sonically.
Tom Petty is one of my favorites of all time. There is nothing like getting a good buzz, sitting with some friends, and puting on some Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to jam to. I have been to a lot of concerts and I have to say that he is so great that I had to go see him twice. Awesome artist, awesome performer, awesome musician, awesome song writer.
To those whining about modern music, you're just not looking in the right places. Yeah, Justin Bieber blows, but so did most 80s power ballads or new wave or disco. It doesn't mean there isn't good stuff still out there. If you want to hear new good music, be proactive and go find it instead of acting like classic versus modern is a legitimate musical distinction.
What's awesome about this song, is it really has a bluesy feeling to it. And what people don't realize, is that before the beatles, before the elvis type, there was true rooted blues. You don't hear any pure blues anymore on the radio, because we've all taken it for granted.
You know, I've read a lot of these comments, and I can't help but agree that when we introduced Beiber and GaGa and Eminem, We ruined what Tom Petty, Rush, and the Beatles had set up; an amazing collection of music. Too bad it's ruined by the modern crap where 'variaty' means 3 songs played over and over untill you gag. Such as the craphole song "Your love is my drug"
@Elijames21 Thank you for realizing that modern musicis like a Korean car. Lots of people like it just 'cus it's cheap. However, there are those who would rather have something classic and much better in styling, economy and speed. It's the same thing as music.
@modtbod if u look on my channel i have 12 modern songs 3 of them i like the rest are random crap i added for views but some people like it so ill put it up. but im gonna add the whole mojo album on my channel
