hip hop is not of god. ask yourself these questions: who created hip hop? did that person accept jesus christ as their lord and savior? is that person a person of god (the most high that is)? who are some of the artist first released from the hip hop movement? were their lyrics holy? did they represent god or the word in any way? ask yourself these questions and if you still believe in holy hip hop, please pray! you have a long way to go and need deliverance. blessings!
I don't think it's God, I think it's your inner self, your flesh making you do the things you did in the past to do it again. Go read Romans 7, you're simply heeding to the wills of the flesh.
so funny when people say that "christians" try to be to holy!? if we are not striving to be like Christ, who indeed is holy! then how in the world are "christians: trying to be to holy?is that not our goal in our walk with Christ? are we yet perfect? no! but nothings wrong with moving towards perfection as being guided by the word..if something is contrary to the word, then yes, christians have the right to judge, not condem! but speaking truth is what we are suppose to do!
If this is the case, then we should throw out all of our "Gospel" music that is played in the black church today. If you do historical research, you will hear the same chords and progressions that were used in the old blues and jazz music. Why hasn't the R&B influence in Gospel music been addressed in the same way that Holy Hip-Hop is. R&B is lustful and sensual music. Jazz music was soul-ish and fleshly also. Rock and Roll has demonic origins. So as believers, what do we do? Jesus Help Us.
@spiritofdumb - Good Day. I am a bible teacher and have been for a number of years. I agree that Hip-Hop is today's musical poison, in the same way that Pop, Rock and Roll, Jazz and Soul/R&B is also. All of which I used to listen to as a youngster. The issue is the demonic spirit that is in all of it. You hardly see any teachings or videos on the other black genres of music. Musical history is a ladder, hip-hop didn't start the rebellion, it is just another step in the ladder. Thanks.
@jsmetm What you do is pray that God let you see the difference in music for or against him. If you ask it enough and with true convection you will see what he wants you to see. I am battling the same thing as we speak but be strong cause things you have enjoyed and listened to for years will soon be unacceptable. It is tough but Jesus will point the way.
So I think we need to ask ourselves some questions, what are the fruits (what is this actually giving me),am I just enjoying the beat & the flow,am I drawing closer to God,is this teaching me something.Surprisingly some "holy hip hop" makes me feel angry (why),some just makes me want to dance (not repent or pray) and some just does nothing (background noise).Observe the atmosphere change when you play a worship song,& then play a hip hop song.Is God still there?Test the spirit
I think some of the comments are very judgemental that's why some ppl are turned off by the church bcuz christians are generally to judgemental and try to be to holy when we all äre one wrong move from the gates of hell nobody is perfect and nobody has the right sit here and judge if one genre of christian music is holier than the other. Get off this and go get your own life right...
@nettaB2cool Jesus is perfect and he call us to be like him and he would not listen to hip hop in any shape or form. We need to break out of our cultural thinking and adopt a kingdom mentality.
This is a conscience issue, there are many rappers with "Christian" artists, and a lot of it seems very careless and not reverent. Let's not call it Christian music, music cannot be Christian, but the artists can and some are. Check out ChristCentric, and tell me that came from Satan, I assure you it did not!!!! It is So Christ Centered (Hence the Name) and Theologically Solid, they rap about Semper Reformanda, Five Solas, Creeds, Holiness of God. Shai Linne is another great one.
This is a bunch of garbage. Christian Hip-Hop or Christian Rap (whatever you want to call it), has its bogus ministers too...just like many of the churches and a lot of the gospel music that is out right now! Music is a creation of God..but it is influenced by Satan because that was his ministry in heaven. The enemy still uses the same tricks. But believers can take any form of music and infuse it with the gospel of Jesus Christ and speak to the nations.
@mykinfoknew using hip hop as a trojan horse is wrong!!! why would you go in the garbage, remix a song about sex and pornography and then present it to the lord? wouldnt it be better to have something pure, fresh, and original as praise. No one who is lost is coming to God over Holy Hip Hop. I tried playing that mess for my cousins and they say this, "that was whatsup", few seconds later, "yo do have that new weezy track". Do I have to take from satan to offer it to God in the Remix? NO!
G. Craige Lewis is talking about the hip hop culture. Look up KRS-ONE who has started his own hip hop religion/church/bible. THATS what this clip is talking about. NO God does not discriminate against different types of praise 2 Him but you cant straddle the fence or like the Bible says be lukewarm. I feel if the music isnt of sound doctrine an does not proclaim Jesus Christ risen an the Kings of kings then its not truly of God.
What is a kingdom sound? Is it contemporary, bluegrass, rap, gospel, rock....? People will be surprised of the music and sound that comes from heaven when His bride gets there.
It's not so much about the sound of the beat, as much as the message of hip hop music. Hip hop music is known for gloryfying sex, money, fame, lust, power, etc. So why would someone want to associate the holy things of God with hip hop music? Holy Hip Hop is an oxymoron.
I, as a child of God believe that there is nothing wrong with using hip Hop as a trojan horse to reach the lost.
I believe most of the 'Holy' hip hop artists are straight garbage and so use the glamourized elements of the origins of hip hop (the same way suburban kids acknowledge hip hop) to compensate for their weak rhymes and their poor cadences on the beat.
Wow, this video has change the way I look at holy hip-hop. I know a lot of the older generations have a problem with rap/hip-hip in the church, and now I understand why!!!
@009MusicAgent -I know one thing- I love women too- a LOT!! I struggle with that everydy....and Im a Church Musician.....but I dont judge anybody, we all need JESUS...
Honestly think about it. Who made music. GOD right. Therefore, Hip Hop and all other secular music are just perversions of what God mean't for good. So who are we to say what gospel music is "supposed to sound like", just because the devil has been using it for his own glory for so long. However, because of the origin of hip hop and why its actually called hip hop.... The phrase Holy Hip Hop is of unequal yolk. It NEEDS ANOTHER NAME!!!
Nothing to do with God. Everything to do with "making money" from an untapped market. Christian children shouldn't listen to hip-hop, Throw in a little Jesus and make it okay. And.. Jesus said "I know you not".
and NOT FULLY COMMIT AND SERVICE CHRIST..for we don't serve CHRIST THROUGH our BEATS and HOW WE CAN CREATE A GOOD SONG...we serve CHRIST through following his ordinances and principles, serving his people, singing praises and dancing IN HIS NAME, ETC....NOT ON FANCY LYRICS and trying to be the next "CHRISTIAN kanye-west or tupac"...get real WITH THE LORD for you are only fooling YOURSELF when you submit to being LUKEWARM...
This Is Really Shoking To Me !! The Biggest Thang That Hurts Me Is That These Holy Hip Hop Artist Listen To Secular Music !
I Really Didn't Knew That ! This Is Just So Wrong ! So They Take There Inspiratian From Secular Artists, They Bring It To The Chruch And Act Like It's All Godly?? Its Awful!
FIRST OF ALL...."HOLY HIP HOP" is an oxymoron...DON'T YOU THINK???...holy means pure, righteous, good, etc...HIP HOP has centered around negative connotations( drugs, violence, foul language, greed, etc, lover of man/self...)...I DON'T THINK THESE TWO GO TOGETHER...GOD CALLS HIS SERVANTS TO BE TOTALLY renewed in SPIRIT AND AND TRUTH (for we WORSHIP CHRIST IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH)..therefore Christ does NOT DWELL where evil DWELLS...this is just another tactic for SATAN to keep people lukewarm
I totally agree with you. They are trying to live as close to the world as possible. It's sad because people are listening to it and they think it is ok because the said God one time or because they rapped a psalm, but when you don't listen to the words it just sounds like a secular song. There is suppose to be a light and day (hot and cold) difference between gospel and secular music. They are just lukewarm.
im glad this video exist! how can hip hop be holy??? i even saw a video about gospel gangsta? thats a complete oxymoron, and to me its blasphemy. people need to check the youth of this country. the devil is trying to claim their souls. hip hop never belongs in the church. peiod. i say again, america is now as of 6/28/2009, under attack...
Craigs Lewis is on point! God doesn't change. But people do. However, God isn't going to change is word for no one. Hip Hop isn't Holy. And you can never make it Holy. God isn't going to take something from that the devil created and use it to win souls. It's just not gonna happen. Because it goes against the very being of who Gos truely is, In which he's Holy. So people can do what they want and say what they want. But God's word never changes. He's the same yesterday, today and forever.
please please please ,would be possible to traduce Graige Lewis in french, it's very important !!!If there is someone who can do this for the europe please thank you very much. God Bless.ALL GLORY FOR GOD,amen.
What confusion ...is that god gave us a talent so if its to ryme and you us it for gods glory i think thiers nothing wrong with that ....but i mean when they go to far like when they start making dancehall gospel ....or they gonna start having clubs for christians till 3 am ....and say its ok cause their listening to christian music .
I grew up on rap and when I first became a Christian I listened to what was then called Christian Rap. I listend to groups like True 2 Society . I enjoyed it because I was looking for a substitue for the rap God had taken away from me Thankfully ! The cd s I heard from them were very Good and Ministered to me because they were Used the Word and a Great Message . But there is Alot of junk out there . I agree with Craig. This is not the veichle for the Gospel. The Mc "The Truth " showed us why
The other thing I find interesting is that Christian artists, specifically hip hop artists but all christian artists, are making money off the gospel of Christ. That is their bread and butter. And the gospel should be free. Some of Jesus apostles had to get jobs to support themselves while they preached the gospel. I think as soon as money comes into the picture, things get distorted...because its so easy to love money.
I just want to say that I think the message is good. The focus of being Christian should not be on emulating a culture, its almost anti cultural. It is not of the world. Its a different life.....doesnt it say its like being born again? That symbolizes a huge change in a persons life - things will not be the same again. To be born again is to not live the old life anymore. Its to be born again and live a new life in Christ. Not the same old thing.
One thing about the dance - dancing is not always bad....David danced to praise God. If that is what the focus is, it will be good. But if the focus is on sexuality or swaggering around, thats a wrong focus, because its about the self rather than God. However, the other thing about Hip Hop in general (though it is mostly not a good thing) is that it came from African Culture originally. Africans culture had a lot of dance involved in it. Is that bad? Depends of the focus.
My question is this, and please think about this. If Jesus came to a place playing this music, and dancing the way the music REQUIRES, will He feel welcomed? I dont think Jesus would be
first off, when did homosexuals invade christain hip hop?? 2nd...whats the difference between "rock" christian music and "hip hop"christian music?? as far as the comment about hip hop needing to b cleansed....werent many prophets of gods word cleansed by god??
Not to be offensive to any one, but I think that there is nothing wrong with poetry to Jesus/God or, exspessing your self uniquely by all means giving God the praise, but he do not want you to do it by the ways of the world. Hip hop was a reaserched movement designed for the world. un known messages are put into this music to intice you to listen and the beats, you dance to. Just the origan in which it came from is enough for me not to want to relate to it.
My brotha' without hitting you over the head even more than what you feel listen a little more carefully mc, and yes absolutely David was a poet. But the moment he set his affection on what was not his and also tried covering it up with excuses (lies) he sinned agianst God and was eventually floored. Listen a more with an open understanding. God Bless man...
im a christian hip hop artist....ok, im offended cuz hes saying that as an artist, i make my music for attention. its judgemental, who are you to say how god has called me to worship, i dont judge you, dont judge me. i agree the majority of hip hop is corrupt. but how you gonna get mad when a christian artist tries to promote their music, they are making the music to spread the gospel, how are they supposed to spread that gospel if its a "sin" to promote it? it just dont make sense friends.
my thing is..how can you take something secual and try to make it"holy"?...I don't get it..most of the genres of music even from the olden days like blues and rock and even reggae was originally christian songs and gospel until it became ungodly....besides I don't think it is right for you to pin point just one thing that he said about the stuff that you do...
belinda0604, sir, mam, whatever you are, no dissrespect...but there is a difference between being educated and being paranoid...its cool do your research, but isnt it true that what the enemy has intented for harm, god turns around for good? man its the same with hip hop and as a christian hip hop artist it breaks my heart that i am being judged and its said im doin my music for attention and im a puppet of satan, making satans music. i agree that listening to secular music is wrong, and god wil
And these Christian rappers study what the secular rappers are doing, not out of enjoyment but so that they can warn the kids of what is going on. And I think Shai Linne was ministering to these "Christian Rappers" about why they shouldn't listen to this music. I agree that they should not be following that music, but Shai Linne and the 116 clique do not embrace this music.
I tried to post a comment too!!! OK u-tube! ANYWAY! LADIES, don't fall for that crap that you hear in HIP HOP it will STEAL your identity and soon you will see the very thing in the mirror that you never thought you would become! People stop tring to be the DOOKIE!! UPLIFT your community, spread LOVE!! HIP HOP is not the answer JESUS IS!!
Remember life and death is in the power of the toung! Sow love and the same shall be measured unto you! LOVE!! not DAMNATION!! THINK B4 U SPEAK!!!
I must say that since I watched, The Truth About Hip Hop, it has changed my whole perspective about a lot of music that I listin to. I had a reckoning, I used to say I "LOVE" Hip Hop! And as much as my mind was poluted with negativity, hurt, disrespect, lusting, vanity, and corrution of a people, It broke my heart to actually see what I was doing to my self, This HIP HOP culture will have a perfectly good womans mind so vain that she will do very DMEANING things to be seen&heard. D-B-A-V!! TURN!!
I tried to comment before but I don't know what happened. Now...PRT who are rappers belonging to 5%er world was the first that I know to coin the term Holy Hip Hop @ 1990. Excuse me if my lyrics are off.
their is an authority over what is hip-hop..it has been given to the man who created this form of music.AFRICA BAAMBATTA! check out what he thinks about christianity
In the comments on this page alone, there are 3 different opinions. This goes to show that people are forming opinions without the word of God. I agree muko2. You can determine where their Christian walk is by their fruit. You have your ignorant in every aspect of the Church. You have pastors who glorify self, you have gay choir directors who glorify self, and you have self named prophets. Match up EVERYONE to the word, not your opinion. The FALSE ones will be exposed.
yongsta210, the problem with that is there is no official authority on what is "hiphop" and what is not. its unique to every individual. each person chooses whatever certain aspects commonly associated to hiphop that they wanna choose to embrace. so now I can't wear shades and baseball caps? thats ridiculous. is everyone in nike warm up suits and jordans demonic? The word of God teaches us that you'll know them by their FRUIT, not their "clothes". This is the main area where craig lewis is wrong
Have you WATCHED this video and LISTENED to what is being said-PROPERLY! Your trying to justify people who take on the CULTURE and IMAGE of the world-using things MADE FOR THE WORLD and their calling it holy. Isnt only God and his word HOLY?! If im correct-then hiphop (as I already know) is of the devil! stop trying to steer away from the truth! please dont send me no scripture or try to flip what im saying-what I just said was Gods word-which is truth-to deny it is to be of satan-THINK!
Oh My Gosh! These rappers are LOST!! You hear what he said, he likes three 6 mafia, break it down thats 666! Geez man wake up, and he likes Jay-Z the devil himself! Come on children of God WAKE UP!!!!
holy hip hop gives off the image of the world. to be christ like is to separate urself from the world so God can use u. u gonna be a Gospel Gangster that rolls wit a nine? cuz dats wat a gansgter does. also he tlkin about a culture. dere is nuttin wrong wit singing or rapping but dont dress like a hip hop artists and carry on like they do. that's the world identity u can use wat the devils uses andd make it Good.
Yo 1st off as a christian rapper myself I can stand here and say that it is NOT fair to say that christian rappers are not of God because not all Gospel singers is of God...I understand that we can't go about saying that it is HIP HOP but how can this guy say that one's heart is not in the right place? Of course the Bible states that there is wolves in sheep's clothing and we DO need to point them out but to generalize a group by a few is not right....
liltigga2k5 you right. further more, we're instructed to examine one's fruit (words & actions), we're not even capable of reading someone's heart. Only God has this ability. the logic he uses to establish that ALL Gospel hiphop is demonic, is the same ridiculous logic that people use when they say Christianity is fake because some pastors or preachers have been proven fake. judging an entire group based off another person's actions is STUPID. This is why so many become muslims or even atheist.
But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, pretenders (hypocrites)! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces; for you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who are about to go in to do so.
I have a father and I love Holy Hip Hop this is lame... And I don't listen to Jay Z or any other worldly rappers he is just making assumptions... People are corrupt and God ask us to ask to ask him 4 forgiveness say if he says why do we need something that is corrupt why does the Lord need us to ask him for forgiveness...
so all this complaining over the word hip-hop? hes cool wit the music, he just doesnt like the word hip-hop ? thats stupid .why isnt he mad at the word "pharmacy" since it comes from the greek word that means witchcraft ? it doesnt matter what it was , it matters what it is now. now pharmacy doesnt refer to witchcraft and now hip-hop doesnt refer to booty shake, but it is a genre in itlself now
exactly! man this is SO silly! hahaha tell me where it says in the word of God that we can only listen to one type of music? lol you could apply this to ANY type of music
regarding NewinChrist...umm i think u need to do ur research cause those types of music are antichrist..I used to think that all music was ok until i began doing my research...its good to do ur research cause its helps u to be educated...it sure helped me....
regarding NewinChrist...umm i think u need to do ur research cause those types of music are antichrist..I used to think that all music was ok until i began doing my research...its good to do ur research cause its helps u to be educated...it sure helped me....
and where do you suppose gospel music comes from??? do ya history folks.... Blues and R n B is the foundation of gospel music.... so treat it the same way you treat holy hip hop.
Ambassador, one of the guys from Cross Movement records, did his thesis on the Hip Hop culture, BEFORE G Craig started speaking out against it. So they are not doing it for marketing purposes. The stuff he's saying is false and manipulative. Plus, every culture on this earth is corrupt because each person is corrupted with sin. When more and more people get redeemed through Jesus' blood, then the culture will be redeemed.
LeCrae, Trip Lee, Cross Movement, Da TRUTH & etc have more Biblical depth n all of their lyrics than any of the stuff he was saying on this video. When you listen 2 their lyrics, u can tell that they r studying the Bible and growing n their faith. It's because of them that I wanted a closer relationship with Christ. It made me want 2 study the Bible and live it accordingly. There r some hhh artists that do cling on2 the world more than they should but there r plenty of solid artists 2 listen 2
If all that, below this, is TOO deep for some, Look at it like this: You are a "Soul Chef", what would you serve, in order to make sure that the soul you are feeding stays HEALTHY, receives that which allows for positive DEVELOPMENT? STILL to deep?....
To be an Emcee, is to possess knowledge in a DISCIPLINE of Linguistics, knowledge in the Art of displaying PHONICS, And most importantly, knowledge in the art of RESPECT for the delicate psyche. Know that your words BUILD. Oh, by the way, this IS of God originally.
Being a true emcee is NOT being a RAPPER! You wanna be real with it, it's a lot like being a preacher, IT calls to you. You have a responsibility of CRADLING the mind of one's soul, when you posses their attention. You can't do it with a LIL JOHN beat!!! Listen to some cats called 'Nujabes' then you'll see what I mean. These "HHH" cats are clowns, dudes just having fun in church and from the looks of it, er'body is fallin' 4 it. THEY ARE RAPPERS, NOT MC"Z!!!!
Oh! , GOOD ANSWER! "if you judge them, pay attention to the movies as well." Yeah...NEVER heard that one before. Is these lame ass dudes serious?!? I don't even listen to "Holy Hip Hop" (pshhh) THESE dudes is even more corny than the "secular" artist they say they like. I spit, and it's laced with the essence of the Creator,(no materialism whatsoever), and I don't call it nothing but 'REAL'. "H HH" is a joke, especially if you're trying to deliver a message to any beat without soul.
This first guy is rediculous....how is he speaking for other people...so i do gospel music to get attention to get peoples opinion...no i do it to glorify God...David sang to the Lord why can't we in our own songs...
his message is based on the poeple (we) becoming imitators of the world. David's song's were sencere and personal. When we seek the ways of God through our eyes? ears? and not from through his spirit? We then become like them. We have the right to choose what way we are to walk. Some choose their desires over the will of God for our life.
i do truly understand what you are saying, but every single "Holy Hip Hopper" they have shown, i would not put them in the "FAKE" or the "Self righteous" category.
I'm just sharing my opinion. They have chosen what is convinient to them. They display the exact same imitation of the world HIP HOP music. All that has to change is the lyrics and they would be one of them. In my personal observation? They walk a really fine line man. God knows their hearts and intensions and he will bring justice to them according to their acts. I am a musician and love music man so I feel what u are saying...bro
If a woman is a prostitute gets saved and becomes a new creature in Christ Jesus, does she go back and become a holy prostitute to reedem prostitution and call it holy? Same for a drug user, a drug seller and any other sinful act or culture you can muster up. "My people perish due to the lack of knowledge."
There's so many verses that can easily refute this "holy" hip hop movement. Yet i'm afraid unless the Spirit of God opens these eyes, they will remain closed. A word of advise: Pull up your pants, take that woman's stocking off ur head and take a good look in the mirror. Then ask yourself: Am I really presenting my body as a living sacrifice that's pleasing to the Lord by my actions? Have I really become saved and transformed by the Word of God or am I just posing?
listen to lecrae, trip lee, cross movement. they arent posing ive been to their concerts and their all about lifting up Christ. Who cares if their pants are sagging. its not a big deal dude
I totally agree we have to be careful what we lsiten to bone thugs and harmony worshipped the devil Neo Soul artists worship ancient Egyptian religion. When God told them to stop worshipping false God Errica Badu Dangelo is into Voodoo so be careful what you listen to. Satan is busy!
hip hop is not just about moving your body....poetry must be that thing to send you to hell! and jazz.....i guess all you can do is sing like mahalia jackson in the milton brunson choir. no wonder its alot of closet homosexuals and bisexuals in the church. hypocritical bigots....
From what I read from articles from the exministries website He's not saying don't rap about Jesus. He's saying don't conform to hip hop culture. hip hop=sub culture, way of living. Rap=musical artform. some think they can't be seperated but rapping existed before hip hop culture. It's really a non-essential issue but I do understand what he's trying to help people understand. people should be informed.
I dont understand why only Rap gets ragged on but no one says anything about Rock. This needs to stop. I feel like G Craig is trying to prove a point, yes secular hip hop is really bad but I feel like he is manipulated peoples ignorance of the Word and of Hip Hop? I think its so wrong of him to basically convict other Christians and many of his "points" arent valid or were not thoroughly researched If you have something to say know what you are trying to say at least.
actually...theres a truth behind rock and roll...to be honest everything G Craige has said aligns nicely with the word of God...why are people getting saved, Demons getting cast out and people changing thier lives for good if its invalid...its the Holy spirit who convicts...something that is lacking in Holy Hip Hop...rarely anybody who gets saved from Holy Hip Hop abandons the world. because its taught them to keep on doing what ure doing as long as u stamp christ on it
I find it odd that You guys keep bashing Christian rap artists, when the truth is that, it is their music that saved me from listening to secular rap music and helped me to get right with Christ. And I am a bit dismayed that many of u want to further the division between the body of Christ and these artist who are a part of that body, bringing the word of God to many thousands if not millions.
God Bless
PS: I hope God opens your eyes to real truth and stop all this bickering.
yo, read "promiseson" comment below us. The fact is hip hop itself is not good..plain and simple..cause its not just a genre, its a lifestyle. Many secular artists who run the game have said that themselves. RAP is an artform, and when you speak about the gospel, good news of jesus christ, then you have Gospel Rap. The whole genre should be called gospel rap. Like he said in this its a marketing strategy, cause whether we like it or not, these Christian labels are owned by secular companies...
The Bible speaks of Spiritual Matters. If you want to understand the defense of what G Craig is saying, then you have to know your enemy, which is Satan and His many demons. The Ultimate struggle as a Christian is the Battle between the Flesh and The Spirit. Flesh promotes selfish ambition and The Spirit of the Man, in its renewed form promotes Love and things that will get you closer to the Father in Heaven... The Hip Hop Culture promotes Selfish Ambition. Read Galation 5:19-21 Rap is not bad..
He never disagreed with rapping or poetry or singing or music in general.. The minister is just presenting the truth of where HIP HOP originated.. NOT WHERE rapping originated or where music originate.>> JUST HIP HOP.. allowyou self to seperate POETRY from HIP HOP..l seperate RAP from HIP HOP.. these are components not the fullness.. Just as rap is a component of music.. HIP HOP is his critique and it is rightfully so
and also btw... who said that Hip Hop is 'butt shaking'? Unfortunately thats what it has become watered down to. But music, ANY form of music is originally meant to be a form of expression. If this guy is so against hip hop why doesn't he read out lyrics from 'holy hip hop' that are blasphemy? Reminds me of secular people in the early 1990's writting off all rap because they couldn't understand it without reading the lyrics. Music is a voice. Holy Hip Hop is a voice for urban christians.
GOSPEL WAS BASED ON MUSIC THAT WAS BASED ON "THE MOVEMENT OF A WOMAN'S BODY." My work takes me to places that I really don't like being. I have to go to clubs, I have to go to concerts, but everywhere I go, I minister, and I change things. Everyone who deals with me knows what I am about. I know I am going to heaven. I know I am saved, and righteous. I know that God doesn't like division. How do you know that you aren't the one that is being divided?
I am a photographer and graphic designer. Some of our clients are secular musicians, and have to make after party appearences. I usually have to spend the day following them around.
If the lyrics TRULY praise God, I'm TRULY praising God, I use the music to praise God, and i know nothing about the artist, then what harm is done? If i'm using the music in that context, then does it really matter what the personal life of the artist is? I know nothing about these christian rappers and yet I feel their music brings glory to God and I listen to it for that reason. I don't use it for sin nor do i sin to the beat of it. It even drives me to dig further into scripture
I hear where this guy is coming from but i don't agree. I mean Mr Craig doesn't give any examples of lyrics from christian hip hop songs which he disagrees with. All he does is criticize all of it because of where hip hop comes from. Do some of these artists need more christian mentoring? Sure of course. But that don't mean what they're doing isn't for God. Who knows? Maybe these artists have changed their positions on listening to secular rap.
So Christ came all the way down from glory, suffer, bled and died on the cross for culture? Oh give me a break. The Lord tells us to be in the world not "of" the world. What does that mean? Isn't being "of it" insinuating worldly "culture" worldly philosophy?
People will say anything to justify their wrong behavior.
Well, you know Biblically, as far as I'm concerned only man can be redeemed anyway. No where in the Word of God states that any form of music had to be redeemed!
And as far as theological truth, come to my church. All we preach is truth! That's why many folks don't want to stay in my church because we don't water down NOTHING!
You're entitled to your opinion, because that's all it is. Debating over opinions is fruitless and pointless. You will continue to endorce this music and of course I will continue to preach against it. Since neither of us is backing down from our opinions, it's been real!
So you're telling me death metal, punk and goth cultures that are clearly ANTI-Christ are not sinful? I'm afraid all your loud music has warped your common sense! Your logic reeks of universalism!
Christian folks will always be split over this issue. Personally, I believe the church could do without this so-called holy hip hop. And as for Kirk Franklin, I stopped listening to his music after his family 1st CD. The preacher brought up a valid point though, why did hip hop have to be redeemed?
Hip hop had to be redeemed the same way man had to be redeemed.
Hip hop is not sinful. No culture/subculture is sinful.
Mankind is sinful.
Why have you people lost sight of the fact that mankind has to be redeemed. You want to demonize hip hop as something that cannot be redeemed, when mankind wants to be redeemed by God.
"You people" - what kind of nonsense is this? Agree to disagree! Folks have their own views on this issue. As I stated before, "Christians will always be split over this issue" as well as many others. That's the problem here, people go on an on with the same crap trying to convince others to see their point. That's why it's called an opinion! Everyone has one and nothing can change that!
Many of you would not like the "gospel tract" before it was created.
Holy Hip hop has a message: It says "Go to the Scriptures and learn about Jesus Christ."
The Gospel tract has a message: It says "Go to the Scriptures and learn about Jesus Christ."
The Holy Spirit still leads men to the Scriptures to meet the God of the Bible, no matter if its via a gospel tract, holy hip hop song, presbyterian hymnal, or aconvicting sermon. As long as the truth of God is there, whats wrong?
Its obvious none of you guys have ever listened or been to any Holy hip hop events. I have heard plenty of testimonies of people who have been delivered an Holy Hip Hop has been a tool. Now understand. I am not defending Hip Hop... I agree with him about it being evil. But their are legit ministers being slandered by this. Yall have no idea what goes on at these concerts. The word of God is preached. Not only on the songs but between songs. The church needs to wake up. This is a tool for our kids
What are you talking about? The same thing happens in a Kanye West concert where he has altar calls! AND many come to the front!!! Does that mean THEY'RE SAVED??? NO! Delivered by hip-hop? Impossibility! Delivered by the word of God? ABSOLUTELY!
Wow..You guys actually are defending Hip-Hop. I totally agree to what G. Craig is saying. Its biblical as well. How can you take the things of the world and make it Holy? lol. Thats crazy. Dont misunderstand what they are saying in this video. They are not against Holy rap, they are just coming against the term Hip-Hop. Hip Hop is a way of life and an organizeed religion. Rap is conveying a message to a beat, but Hip Hop is a lifestle. There is not such thing as Holy Hip Hop. Denounce it
You asked:"How can you take the things of the world and make it Holy? lol. Thats crazy"
I answer your question with this:
God redeems fallen, wretched, foul, depraved, corrupted sinners like Paul everyday doesnt he? God has truly taken the most vile thing in creation (the unredeemed sinner Gen 6:5) and uses him to gorify Himself.
He has done the same thing with hip hop music. That which was unholy, He uses to glorify Himself, just like mankind who was formerly His enemy.
Yall should be ashamed of yourselves.... brainwashing and confusing God's people.
Everybody watching this.... don't just believe it because they say it. Go and study for yourselves. This is ridiculous and it is dividing God's people.
When has Holy hiphop ministered to anybody? When anybody been encouraged to give up the hiphop culture that is not of God through "HOLY" hiphop? When has the atomosphere been set for the glory of God to manifest through holy hiphop? Who has been delivered, set free, edified or convicted by it? Seriously tell me. Unless the power of God falls when someone is performing Holy HipHop, healings & deliverances take place, conviction & repentence & people baptized in the Holy Ghost...it is POINTLESS.
TRUTH, Lacrae, Trip Lee, R Swift, and etc will tell you that it is not all about the beats but the best way to get the message of the gospel is through a beat. Many non rappers such as Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, and etc have done the same thing. The real message is, quoting Lacrae's album, after the music stops do you have a relationship with Jesus. Many people struggle is because they don't have a realtionship with Jesus. They have lives that do not please him.
This is real talk. These guys do in fact get their inspiration from these secular rappers. I think it's messed up because. I've just got a copy of da truths joint and been bumpin it for da last almost 3 weeks. All I can say is you can definitely hear jay z's influence all in truth's style. And I just can't get past the beatz. He's talking positive stuff but there really isn't and teaching of trhe word in those songs strongly. They are more life songs. Peace be unto all! Jesus is Lord! Repent!
I am glad to see someone actually admit this. So many people are trying to defend themt hat they are angry with G. Craige for doing this. You can look at G. Craige (if you have any type of discernment) & tell that he is sincere. You can also listen to alot of these gospel artist (not just rappers but singers too) & tell what they do b/c it comes out in their music. You can hear lust in alot of these artists music & people don't even realize that. I praise God for you for actually taking a stand
There are men who communiate more Biblical truth in 4 min Holy Hip Hop songs, than your pastor communicates in his/her whole Sunday sermon.
-How sad... Why, because much American preaching has thrown Biblical theology out of the window in exchange for one-lined catch-phrases, and regurgitated unbiblical garbage spewed from TBN/word network.
We have forsaken Sunday sermons on eschatology, and gone after "purpose, breakthrough, destiny, and vision" because we want these thing MORE THAN GOD!
There are demons who communicate more Biblical truth than ANY rapper or pastor you've heard! What does this mean? Nothing! There's a difference between saying truth and WALKING in truth! "This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is NO DARKNESS AT ALL. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while WE WALK IN DARKNESS, WE LIE and do not live according to the TRUTH;
Rapping is not the problem, but hip hop is. It is a culture. Two cultures cannot be in one place. One will dominate the other.

hip hop is not of god. ask yourself these questions: who created hip hop? did that person accept jesus christ as their lord and savior? is that person a person of god (the most high that is)? who are some of the artist first released from the hip hop movement? were their lyrics holy? did they represent god or the word in any way? ask yourself these questions and if you still believe in holy hip hop, please pray! you have a long way to go and need deliverance.

@jsmetm Listen this is the root behind this issue. It is being address and will continue to be address. Thank you for you input.

Thanks.
jsmetm 1 year ago

But believers can take any form of music and infuse it with the gospel of Jesus Christ and speak to the nations.
simstd 1 year ago

People will be surprised of the music and sound that comes from heaven when His bride gets there.
thestaceyyoungband 1 year ago
@thestaceyyoungband

In the end they look fake and stupid.

The other thing I find interesting is that Christian artists, specifically hip hop artists but all christian artists, are making money off the gospel of Christ. That is their bread and butter. And the gospel should be free. Some of Jesus apostles had to get jobs to support themselves while they preached the gospel. I think as soon as money comes into the picture, things get distorted...because its so easy to love money.
aaronkehl 2 years ago
I just want to say that I think the message is good. The focus of being Christian should not be on emulating a culture, its almost anti cultural. It is not of the world. Its a different life.....doesnt it say its like being born again? That symbolizes a huge change in a persons life - things will not be the same again. To be born again is to not live the old life anymore. Its to be born again and live a new life in Christ. Not the same old thing.
aaronkehl 2 years ago
One thing about the dance - dancing is not always bad....David danced to praise God. If that is what the focus is, it will be good. But if the focus is on sexuality or swaggering around, thats a wrong focus, because its about the self rather than God. However, the other thing about Hip Hop in general (though it is mostly not a good thing) is that it came from African Culture originally. Africans culture had a lot of dance involved in it. Is that bad? Depends of the focus.

And these Christian rappers study what the secular rappers are doing, not out of enjoyment but so that they can warn the kids of what is going on. The FALSE ones will be exposed.
rpicket1 3 years ago
yongsta210, the problem with that is there is no official authority on what is "hiphop" and what is not. its unique to every individual. each person chooses whatever certain aspects commonly associated to hiphop that they wanna choose to embrace. so now I can't wear shades and baseball caps? thats ridiculous. is everyone in nike warm up suits and jordans demonic? The word of God teaches us that you'll know them by their FRUIT, not their "clothes". This is the main area where craig lewis is wrong

Yo 1st off as a christian rapper myself I can stand here and say that it is NOT fair to say that christian rappers are not of God because not all Gospel singers is of God...I understand that we can't go about saying that it is HIP HOP but how can this guy say that one's heart is not in the right place? Of course the Bible states that there is wolves in sheep's clothing and we DO need to point them out but to generalize a group by a few is not right....
liltigga2k5 3 years ago
liltigga2k5 you right. further more, we're instructed to examine one's fruit (words & actions), we're not even capable of reading someone's heart.

When more and more people get redeemed through Jesus' blood, then the culture will be redeemed.
youth4lyf 3 years ago

Oh, by the way, this IS of God originally.
sephiablue 3 years ago
Being a true emcee is NOT being a RAPPER! You wanna be real with it, it's a lot like being a preacher, IT calls to you. You have a responsibility of CRADLING the mind of one's soul, when you posses their attention. You can't do it with a LIL JOHN beat!!! Listen to some cats called 'Nujabes' then you'll see what I mean. These "HHH" cats are clowns, dudes just having fun in church and from the looks of it, er'body is fallin' 4 it. THEY ARE RAPPERS, NOT MC"Z!!!!

I don't even listen to "Holy Hip Hop" (pshhh) THESE dudes is even more corny than the "secular" artist they say they like. I spit, and it's laced with the essence of the Creator,(no materialism whatsoever), and I don't call it nothing but 'REAL'. emibeatz 3 years ago
his message is based on the poeple (we) becoming imitators of the world. David's song's were sencere and personal. When we seek the ways of God through our eyes? ears? and not from through his spirit? We then become like them. We have the right to choose what way we are to walk. Some choose their desires over the will of God for our life.

All that has to change is the lyrics and they would be one of them. In my personal observation? They walk a really fine line man.

I think its so wrong of him to basically convict other Christians and many of his "points" arent valid or were not thoroughly researched If you have something to say know what you are trying to say at least.

actually...theres a truth behind rock and roll...to be honest everything G Craige has said aligns nicely with the word of God...why are people getting saved, Demons getting cast out and people changing thier lives for good if its invalid...its the Holy spirit who convicts...something that is lacking in Holy Hip Hop...rarely anybody who gets saved from Holy Hip Hop abandons the world. because its taught them to keep on doing what ure doing as long as u stamp christ on it

yo, read "promiseson" comment below us.
DRoyul 3 years ago
The Bible speaks of Spiritual Matters. If you want to understand the defense of what G Craig is saying, then you have to know your enemy, which is Satan and His many demons. The Ultimate struggle as a Christian is the Battle between the Flesh and The Spirit. Flesh promotes selfish ambition and The Spirit of the Man, in its renewed form promotes Love and things that will get you closer to the Father in Heaven... The Hip Hop Culture promotes Selfish Ambition. Read Galation 5:19-21 Rap is not bad..

NOT WHERE rapping originated or where music originate.>> JUST HIP HOP.. allowyou self to seperate POETRY from HIP HOP..l seperate RAP from HIP HOP.. these are components not the fullness.. Just as rap is a component of music.. HIP HOP is his critique and it is rightfully so
promiseson 3 years ago
and also btw... who said that Hip Hop is 'butt shaking'?

If the lyrics TRULY praise God, I'm TRULY praising God, I use the music to praise God, and i know nothing about the artist, then what harm is done? If i'm using the music in that context, then does it really matter what the personal life of the artist is? I know nothing about these christian rappers and yet I feel their music brings glory to God and I listen to it for that reason. I don't use it for sin nor do i sin to the beat of it. It even drives me to dig further into scripture
chiggaboy88 3 years ago
I hear where this guy is coming from but i don't agree. I mean Mr Craig doesn't give any examples of lyrics from christian hip hop songs which he disagrees with. All he does is criticize all of it because of where hip hop comes from. Do some of these artists need more christian mentoring? Sure of course. But that don't mean what they're doing isn't for God. Who knows? Maybe these artists have changed their positions on listening to secular rap.
chiggaboy88 3 years ago
So Christ came all the way down from glory, suffer, bled and died on the cross for culture? Oh give me a break. The Lord tells us to be in the world not "of" the world. What does that mean? Isn't being "of it" insinuating worldly "culture" worldly philosophy?
People will say anything to justify their wrong behavior.

brocliffclgi 3 years ago
Well, you know Biblically, as far as I'm concerned only man can be redeemed anyway. No where in the Word of God states that any form of music had to be redeemed!
And, "no", you didn't answer my question!
Hendixon 3 years ago
And as far as theological truth, come to my church. All we preach is truth! That's why many folks don't want to stay in my church because we don't water down NOTHING!
Hendixon 3 years ago
No music is sinful. No culture/subculture is sinful, and no it does not have to be redeemed because it is not sinful...
Man is sinful and must be redeemed.
But hip hop has been relieved of its reputation when rappers communicate Gods Truth through this medium.
SolideoGloriafella 3 years ago
Music/cultures/subcultures are not sinful in-and-of-themselves.... Mankind is sinful
SolideoGloriafella 3 years ago
You're entitled to your opinion, because that's all it is. Debating over opinions is fruitless and pointless. You will continue to endorce this music and of course I will continue to preach against it. Since neither of us is backing down from our opinions, it's been real!

Christian folks will always be split over this issue. Personally, I believe the church could do without this so-called holy hip hop. And as for Kirk Franklin, I stopped listening to his music after his family 1st CD. The preacher brought up a valid point though, why did hip hop have to be redeemed?
Hendixon 3 years ago
Hip hop had to be redeemed the same way man had to be redeemed.
Hip hop is not sinful. No culture/subculture is sinful.
Mankind is sinful.
Why have you people lost sight of the fact that mankind has to be redeemed. You want to demonize hip hop as something that cannot be redeemed, when mankind wants to be redeemed by God.
(self-righteousness)
SolideoGloriafella 3 years ago
"You people" - what kind of nonsense is this? Agree to disagree! Folks have their own views on this issue. As I stated before, "Christians will always be split over this issue" as well as many others. That's the problem here, people go on an on with the same crap trying to convince others to see their point. That's why it's called an opinion! Everyone has one and nothing can change that!
Hendixon 3 years ago
Many of you would not like the "gospel tract" before it was created.
Holy Hip hop has a message: It says "Go to the Scriptures and learn about Jesus Christ."
The Gospel tract has a message: It says "Go to the Scriptures and learn about Jesus Christ."
The Holy Spirit still leads men to the Scriptures to meet the God of the Bible, no matter if its via a gospel tract, holy hip hop song, presbyterian hymnal, or aconvicting sermon. As long as the truth of God is there, whats wrong?
SolideoGloriafella 3 years ago

Its obvious none of you guys have ever listened or been to any Holy hip hop events. I have heard plenty of testimonies of people who have been delivered an Holy Hip Hop has been a tool. Now understand. I am not defending Hip Hop... I agree with him about it being evil. But their are legit ministers being slandered by this. Yall have no idea what goes on at these concerts. The word of God is preached. Not only on the songs but between songs. The church needs to wake up. This is a tool for our kids

Denounce it
mrnathan86 3 years ago
Mrnathan86.
SolideoGloriafella 3 years ago
Yall should be ashamed of yourselves.... brainwashing and confusing God's people.
Everybody watching this.... don't just believe it because they say it. Go and study for yourselves. This is ridiculous and it is dividing God's people.

this is sad..... Don't throw away your holy hip hop because of one man's hatred towards the culture
How can I make a song praising Jesus be wrong?
Do you truly believe that God is looking down on us for praising his name in a hip hop style...
and if that is the case then Gospel music is evil to. Because it is inspired by the world too. Do your research.
Show me in the bible where they used guitars and drums and organs..if you can't tell me where that originated then stop supporting that too.
