First off, an amazing movie on its own right. For those of us that practice Kendo you can totally appreciate the range of physical challenges that each of the practitioners faces. What I just found out that was even more amazing is that this movie was based off a short story by Yukio Mishima.

This perhaps the best Kendo video that I own, you can get it on e-bay, it is worth it and really those that study/practice Kendo will really appreciate it. want to show this to fellow Kenshi and Kendoka at our dojo.

Question:

What happens to the boy who couldn't stand the seiza???

He said that the seiza punishment is ridiculous and causes a scene. Practice stops and he goes on a rant about how he joined the club to practice a sport, not to be treated like that. He goes on to say he's had enough, rips off his bogu, and runs out the door with the rest of the club wanting to beat him up. The captain stops them saying that it isn't necessary.

I've done seiza for 30 minutes before and I have to say that the hardest part isn't making the 30 minutes, it's getting up afterwards and dealing with the pins-and-needles feeling afterwards.

Interesting ... I know exactly what those guys were going when punished sitting in seiza. Seiza is great to achieve a great posture, but the pain after 5 minutes in hardly intolerable, after 10 I couldn;t imagine it ...after 30!! .. I wonder what happens after to the guy who quit..
