  • Sensational! You're really talented - thanks for sharing your music

  • hey, can you explain the difference between this and a chromatic dulcimer please?

  • Ah! I like your Shady Grove interpretation! Great! Especially from 1:12 on it is really exiting! I subscribe to your channel and hope to find one day a version in better audio quality (thats the only (minor) disadvantage). Best regards!

  • Incredible!! I wonder if you could help me. I want to buy a mountain dulcimer, but I really have no clue what kind I should get. I really like the sound of your dulcimer though. Does the pattern of the holes matter to the sound? Some have hearts and others have more traditional patterns. Or is it the way you tune it that makes the difference? I really am clueless :p I've been looking for one on ebay, but they all have different name. Appalachian, jumbo cherry, applecreek acd 200k?? Help!! :))

  • which instrument? Name plz.

  • Wonderful! You're very talented.

  • nice work

  • LOVED THAT OUTRO, SON.

  • I love this SO much! I just got my first dulcimer last week and have been playing it like crazy! Hopefully I'll get to be this good one day!

  • Did you write that arrangement? I'd like to learn this song. If you wrote it, would you be willing to share? If you didn't write it, would you tell me where you got it?

I've been buying music from Linda Brockinton's website, and I really like it, but his has a different sound.

  • This is just absolutely amazing. I love dulcimer music, but it's hard to find anything worth while on youtube, you by far have made my day, I've so glad I found this [:

  • Good work

  • There are a number of dulcimer videos on YouTube. Yours are, by far, the most musical and delightful to listen to. Thanks for your work.

  • @Akitrom

Thank you for the kind words. Others seem to love my music and I plan to keep playing music for all that want to listen! :) These videos are really relativelmy old. I want to post some more very soon to show that I have grown. It's evolving into music and not just how fast I can play (like a couple years ago). Thank you so much for listening!

  • @gretchenman We leardned about you in music class and I had to check you out and I am pleasently astounded

  • @Akitrom. Could not agree more. Well said.

  • You are awesome dude!

  • This is very cool!

  • where can i get a dulcimer capo - awesome

  • @simplefolkband

Mike Clemmer, the man who made this dulcimer (which is my main go-to dulcimer) makes the best capos! And only $20!

  • That is intristing you have a five string dulcimer mine only has four as is usual. My question is though weather you have two melodic strings instead of one like mine. Do you have an instructional video for this song though.

  • @simplefolkband also McSpadden is a good place (:

  • good job on the mt. dulcimer. thanks for the great song! :) jan altman

  • Thank you.

  • Great playing!!

  • This tune reminds me very much of the old English trad song Maddy Groves. I liked this video very much.

  • Completely Awesome

  • Fantastic! Glad to see you add variation and improv...that's missing in a lot of folk music

  • WOW - that was incredible. I'm crossed eyed from trying to keep up with your finger placement. Sorry I missed your Charleston club visit I had to work :-(. I'll try to come see you soon and you can teach me some of those tricks for Shady Grove.

  • Wow! That sounds just so good!

  • I really enjoy your music!

  • I really enjoyed this --- far outshines my own version of Shady Grove. You've somehow preserved the old-style feel while injecting a little taste of many other traditions.

  • That's great. I love it. A very unique rendition while keeping the original flavor. Do I detect some Steve Seifert in your style?

  • Thanks! And you probably do see some of him :)

  • I have debated buying a dulcimer for awhile now. Hearing and seeing you play this song has decided me :) If I can just play what you have played, I will be happy! Awesome!

By the way....I would like to know where you go the capo also :)

  • thats a freakin awesom song let me tell you what. im workin on it on my mandolin but its really cool the way you play it on that. i just got mine :) where did you get your capo?

  • Hi! You sound awesome playing this!!

Is this all your own version or do you have a sheet/tabs reference? I'd love to play this "gretchenman" style!!

  • You made my day! HAHA! Thanks SO MUCH! You rock! You play wonderfully also! No, I do not have tabs, but I am tuned DAD with a capo on the first fret, putting me in E minor. It is my arrangement, (I am getting better about consisten timing by the way) so feel free to listen and take it!

    Thanks!!!!!

  • Ahhh.. I just love this! Very nice!

  • This is sooooo pretty! I love it! In 1982 I worked with Libby Trone on the asteanboat Julia Belle Swain. She was and still IS a phenomenal Hammer Dulcimer player!

  • Song makes me want to cry or join the IRA.... lol j/k

  • Great job!! I loved the harmonics and the variation you put into your arrangement by playing the melody all over the dulcimer. I look forward to seeing more!

  • Your harmonics are awesome in this tune - keep it up dude!

  • Somehow I missed seeing this one. Great job!! Very, very well done. Not too much of a train, you are getting better about your timing. It is great to watch you grow with your music and your talent. Love and hugs, Tish

  • I can't stop watching this!

  • I am actually prettty happy with this arrangement, It is not perfect, in my other playings of this song,I have eliminated my pick slap. I perfected the run at the end and all that! Thank you though!

  • My grandma used to play that song

  • Hey, another nice job man. Very good rendition of the song. Just make sure to watch ur timing and stay on beat. Later man!

  • Thats one of the best playing's of Shady Grove I have seen before, great job! You had awsome use of all the strings, and great chords to. Keep strumming!

  • I think it's rockin'. I really just like to cut loose sometimes.

  • hmm.. pretty cool
