Well, it would be hillarious if after the zen-like combat and meditation one of the girls started trash talking and it degraded into a slap-contest and a "yo mama so fat" joke battle. master matt in judo i was in it they would make us tape our knuckles and the wrists relly tight to support the knuckles and cut off the circulation in the hand to make them numb and so we could fit our gloves better when we were using them it also makes it easer to grapple the gi if your wearing one becase your hands get sweaty and the tape stops some of the miosture

1. to protect the wrist from bending during a punch which can potentially break the wrist, this is the main reason why.

2. to numb the hand so punching doesn't hurt

3. to pad the hand and wrist area.

4. to make padded gloves (such as boxing gloves) fit tighter and feel more secure.
