You don't need the cape to do this. Step 1:Buy red potion...Step 2: capture a fairy...Step 3: Capture another fairy...Step 4...Enter cave...Step 5: run till you have 2 hearts...Step 6: use red potion...Step 7: Run till you die...Step 8: get revived by fairy...Step 9: run and grab cane...Step 10: Run till death and get revived by fairy...Step 11: Run like a bitch and exit the cave...or what the other said(get 3 fairies )

actually i just tried to walk across with all the hearts and i survived with 7 hearts left. so it can definitely be done without the cape. of course this is going one way, i had the cape to get to the cane itself :P
