There is an old response given by artists in the 1920's when taunted with how the are regurgitating the past and cannot come near the gifts of the masters.....to which they would reply : "And what the hell are you doing with your life? also: if you know scott walkers later work, she is not only a bit influenced by it - she is a whole lot relying on his style of sound and composition... check out the song "cossacks are" (there is a video on youtube) and the album "the drift" by scott walker.

i saw a whole concert of her on arte and felt similar. first, she really is a great guitar player, i love her clean sound and the fact that she is mostly playing interesting harmonies - something you don't see often. as well she is indeed a good singer. but behind all that, i am just honest here, she doesn't seem to be as great of a songwriter. and that is where i totally agree with you: she is hiding her missing creativity behind an "arty" mask. and yes this seems very pretentious.
