this is the greatest song ever made, because simon gallup on bass, and robert smith on bass ( he is using a bass VI i believe) = god and jesus together finally <3
THis is one of my favorite songs ever from them... it has great depth and personal meaning to me... and I am one of the LUCKY ones to own a copy of "Trilogy".... :D!!!!!!!!
When this came out in 1989 it was unlike anything else. It remains a classic 22 years later. And the Trilogy DVD is exquisitely produced, it truly rivals their actual performances if played on a good sound system.
Beatiful and so correct descritption of @machinewolfheart, curiosly all my life I say these words, listening to THE CURE or Depeche Mode,
All the time for me the music of The Cure has some kind of 3D sensation, this music is not plane, it has space, if you could feel it, so just amazing!
I miss this soooo much!!!! this beautiful music and Robert's voice takes me to heaven but i'm just not feeling the last two albums... Is there something wrong with me??? I miss Disintegration, bloodflowers kiss me... i love The Cure and I will forever, but I need another album with music that I can feel in my bones like I feel with this song and Lulaby, apart, lovesong, strange day, a night like this, oooh so many. This is a drug for me and I need it soon!!!
My husband and I are in the process of getting a divorce now and it is very hard. Things don't always work out like you hoped they would. It is very painful to recall the good times we had together even though they were seldom. I used to lay in bed and watch him fall asleep, I loved kissing him. I just can't go through anymore of the emotional abuse he has put me and my family through.
This song is helping me to cry out the pain as I lay here on my bed alone in the night.... :(
@jrphan0509 Its funny, I'm in the same situation. My divorce will be final on Tuesday and this song has been in my head all day so I thought I'd come look it up here.
@jrphan0509 "the shallow drowned, lose less than we" if you never take chances then you'll never have anything to lose. those that have risked it all stand to lose the most when it all goes wrong.
@jrphan0509 I'm sorry to hear of your pain, but we are always evolving; you'll get past this in time as well. I share your thoughts on this song; I've always felt it was very powerful emotionally, like many of the songs of The Cure. This post is 8 months after yours, so here's to hoping all is better now.
@jrphan0509 sounds like you should have washed the dishes like he told you to,or maybe you should just run off and join the cia and play with butterflies like dr mengele
@jrphan0509 Ever since this album came out, this song in particular has helped me in a very cathartic way. I can relate to the space you were in! I hope you're doing better now.
No puedo evitar romper a llorar ...por los años que hace y por la profundidad de la tormenta que transmite. Después de ella siempre llega la calma... pero queda el recuerdo...como no echar de menos algo o alguien tan profundo como el agua! Los mejores deseos.

The CURE is a prime example of a band that has matured,in this case to perfection, something most bands will never understand. The reason is The CURE figured out how to damn near create as much emotion as a symphony,i've said in other posts that they've indeed created a new genre.
They experimented, etc. which eventually gave us the damn near perfect Disintegration,in which i think this is a defining album in music history.
Imagine another Disintegration caliber album,i think they can do it.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA they did make another disintegration caliber album....it's called bloodflowers. wish was another incredibly deep album emotionally....don't forget the wish era b-sides
Maybe i should've been more specific, i meant another "Disintigration calibre" pertaining to the sound of the album, almost ambient/orchestral/dream/surreal, just an emotional masterpiece. While i like Bloodflowers as much as anyone, it's not the same. I would probably shart if The Cure came out with an album with the sound of maybe 'Hammock', 'God is an atronaut', 'Lights out Asia', etc, but with The Cure's mojo...
...and maybe a bit more specific,i listened to Disintegration when it came out,on the beaches and cliffs from Big Sur to Waddell Creek(N. of Santa Cruz),Bonnie Dunes beach was bliss(those who know...know). I was in perhaps the most beautiful place on earth in the most beautiful time of my life...at this time the world was blessed with a musical masterpiece called Disintegration.
Music is a part of defining who we are, even as a mere reminder,Disintegration was one of mine...lucky me ;-)
This is one beautiful song that is just so mesmerizing to the soul. This song lifts me to another place when I listen to it. It is so deep and so haunting to every emotion in my heart. One of their best for sure!! I have loved The Cure for a lifetime and they have never ceased to amaze me with all the beauty and magic in all their songs and melodies. Pure brillance!! Robert is such a poetic genius!! ILY Robert!! The Cure forever my friends!! ♥♥
This song touches my heart and soul so very deeply. This song is full of true deep emotion and feeling. Such a magnificent song indeed. The Cure are truly amazing and so awesome!! Always loved them, always will!! The Cure forever and always!! :) ♥
The best way to hear this super song. An ocean view room with lights completely off, a good whiskey, a good cigar, or why not ..... a good cigar of cannabis Greetings mexico
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA I agree Mr.Zombie,It takes an intellectual mind to appreciate the Cure,a common dumb ass need not even try,Mr.Smith is a brilliant mind,on par with Bach,Beethoven,Freud,Einstein, and so on.
Hes so good, its not fair to other artists. The Cure is the best Ive ever heard.
This song fills me with such emotion, such real pain and yet so touching to the soul as well. The Cure have a way with bringing those feelings with their very beautiful and touching songs such as this one. This song to me has always seemed overlooked and so glad to see it posted! This is definitely a favorite for me. I have loved The Cure for 27 years now and they have never ceased to amaze me with their melodies and songs. The Cure is truly an amazing band and Robert is just beautiful!! ♥
In the extras on the DVD of this, (you should just buy it, by the way) Robert Smith said something special about this particular performance of this song. How this is only the 4th time they ever played it live, or something. I don't remember exactly, do you? Epic performance, though! The space they were in that night! The atmosphere! The audience was brilliant. The band worked together like Swiss clockwork.
After watching bootlegs of this song from The Prayer tour you realize how bad Perry and Jason are and how missed Porl and Boris are. The Trilogy disc is a terrible representation of Pornography and Disintegration. Even Robert and Simon are so concerned with making mistakes and not ruing the take that the songs are stale and have no life. Search The Cure live 1989 and listen to the difference. Robert is barely playing the Fender bass vi here.
@beauty8116 I bought this album when it first came out when I was 13 years old and I have to say I was a virgin before this album came into my life. Pornography I bought later and Bloodflowers much, much later. I respectfully disagree with you, beauty8116. I think Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers were done brilliantly, especially considering how *ahem* respectfully the new members performed the flawless work of their predecessors, eh?
The summer of 1989 was a mixed one for me...I separated from my (now ex) husband, and spent the summer away at the lake. And being in the throes of depression and unsettling, this album became my soundtrack. Amazing how someone across the world can tell your story in their music and without knowing. I will always love Robert & The Cure for this album....
who would thumb this down? I mean, how do you get to this video if you don't like the cure? do you just search for something, randomly get to this video and thumb it down, or what..
Robert's lyric's are poetic that evokes deep emotions in each one of us. His instrumentals are a reflection of a era that had since bypassed us...where Opera has the same meaning and influences. Robert is a unique! He reminds us that a composer can bring about excellent music in our time. He will be as timeless as Beethoven!
I've always loved the way Robert puts a whole bar in between the last "The very last thing before I go..." and "I shall kiss you." That little bit of tension is genius. Roger Waters did something similar in leaving space (for reverb) between phrases in "Us and Them". Brilliant songwriters know that sometimes, less is more.
I love the rolling thunder effect & the underwater effect on the close-ups of Robert, really makes me feel like I'm watching them play underwater. The atmosphere must have been so profound & intense at these shows. Incredible!
i like the cure alot, i own many cd's of them, but, if i was robert smith, i would grew tired of myself being down all the time. I mean, sure, it rains sometimes and the winters in europe can be so cold, but when spring come and you smell the scent of fresh flowers, never mind the winter then, right?
@Bram1978 I don't think Robert is down all the time. it's just the way he prefers to express himself musically. Anyway there are songs like 'Friday I'm in Love' which are definately not down.
Disintegration is an absolute Master Work,Unapproachable by any other band since, or before,This is without a doubt the greatest Alternative Rock Band ever,
and this CD,is the best music ever composed by the human mind period,
And is simply Unattainable by any other Alternative Rock band for all eternity.
robert smith is something different, he is one of those rare people who see and feel the world in a different way. he feels his emotions with an incredible intensity and profound understanding and it comes out in his songs. truly beautiful.
Robert operates on a different level than others, hes a prodigy,a genius, this music has magical effects,it always makes me feel good, every time,it really is the Cure!!!
Robert Smith is so good, people dont realize just how great him and the band are,the best ive ever seen.
I am old not fat am ugly but I love the cure I first saw them in 76 long time ago I know I still think they are amazing, and wow what a contribution to music they made, thanks for this, made an OLD person happy.
this music, this band, this artist transcends you clockmeatsandwich...in the presence of such a beautiful piece of artistry...you seem tiny with your little insults and near sighted observations...you don't like the way he looks, close your eyes and listen...still nothing? maybe you should seek introspection
Are you kidding? I don't think his millions of fans (including lots of "young skinny guys' I've met who are newly captivated by his music) care what he looks like (& plenty would relish kissing him I'm sure, just check out some of the comments his vids get. Talk about devotion) His career spans 3 decades & he can still pack huge venues. Good on him! I admire his stamina & commitment to his art & appreciate all the good memories I associate with his music.
Do you judge the book by its cover? Then you must be extremely vain.
I love Smith for his contribution into music and therefore my life and would love him whether skinny or extremely fat but with the same voice and talent.
Coming back to the looks, this is sth you inherit and can't do a lot about it but you should find out about that for yourself at some time in the future.
I doesn't realy matter when you become a Cure fan. The music is timeless, but the message very relevant to the individual.
I first listened to The Cure in 1984, saw them live twice (Pink Pop and Rotterdam), and have been a an ever since. Whenever my live kicks me in the teeth (which is al to often), The Cure keeps my head above the water.
not if fascist zionist racist money-hungry power-hungry european jewbag bankers can help the cause to turn the entire world fascist and slaves to their credit-based interest-based "free-market" economic system of capitalism. vote third party. or watch fascism roll through the entire planet after china and india get their fifteen minutes of fame. that's in 50 years. god bless the sheep. god bless those that lack the courage to see the truth in life.
Only from the mind of a genius--only from Robert Smith.

Incredible!

Wow. Dark, but beautiful. Sad to think this track was such a big theme in my late teenage years. Definitely their best album.

i like the cure alot, i own many cd's of them, but, if i was robert smith, i would grew tired of myself being down all the time. I mean, sure, it rains sometimes and the winters in europe can be so cold, but when spring come and you smell the scent of fresh flowers, never mind the winter then, right?

@Bram1978
he had many personalities..
he stated he was more the pop artist
instead of the goth we know him like
in this album & pornography (:
he was jus.; way more different in those last 2 i mentioned
instead of his catchy pop songs which were brilliant to
.. i dont know it's like every bit of music he made or touched was just fabulous
every single song even the entire rarities collection is pure genious
simionTheOne 1 year ago
@Bram1978 I don't think Robert is down all the time. it's just the way he prefers to express himself musically. Anyway there are songs like 'Friday I'm in Love' which are definately not down.

The keyboardist looks a lot like and has the same mannerisms as the keyboardist for Morrissey. Just look up the live version of "There Is A Light...".
Is it the same guy?

this music, this band, this artist transcends you clockmeatsandwich...in the presence of such a beautiful piece of artistry...you seem tiny with your little insults and near sighted observations...you don't like the way he looks, close your eyes and listen...still nothing? maybe you should seek introspection

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I see a fat old guy singing with young skinny guys playing instruments
He's an old fat dude still hanging on, write something new already Robert! and nobody wants to kiss you any more!
clockmeatsandwich 1 year ago
Are you kidding? I don't think his millions of fans (including lots of "young skinny guys' I've met who are newly captivated by his music) care what he looks like (& plenty would relish kissing him I'm sure, just check out some of the comments his vids get. Talk about devotion) His career spans 3 decades & he can still pack huge venues. Good on him! I admire his stamina & commitment to his art & appreciate all the good memories I associate with his music.
MsRedbelly 1 year ago 3
@clockmeatsandwich
And who are you to judge anyone's looks?
Do you judge the book by its cover? Then you must be extremely vain.
I love Smith for his contribution into music and therefore my life and would love him whether skinny or extremely fat but with the same voice and talent.
Coming back to the looks, this is sth you inherit and can't do a lot about it but you should find out about that for yourself at some time in the future.

What could I possibly say ..... beautifull ? Gorgeous? Out of this world??
