Good replacement for hammill (who is THE joker and wont be outdone but hey hes over it) which i cant believe this wasnt the joker they picked for Young Justice. Seriously did anyone see that portrayal?
What I've concluded makes a good depiction of Joker, is two things. The first being how the actor makes Joker carry himself. The second, the laugh... and the guy that did Joker for this movie had both down pat! He might not be Mark Hamil or Heath Ledger (rest his soul), but the guy is a damn fine Joker.
What people don't understand is, The Joker has multiple personalities, Mark brought out the more cartoony, joking killer. This guy (whose name slips me) brought out what The Joker originally was, a homicidal maniac, that's the great thing about Joker, you can have multiple voice actors/personalities because Joker himself has multiple personalities, my personal favorite is the Heath Ledger one, Mark has the laugh though, that iconic laugh, this guy is great too, he makes Joker, well, evil
There may be something to the whole putting Joker in a body cast every 6 months. Just schedule it so he's constantly in one. Bam! Crime's been solved.
i like this joker anyway...he has a good laugh...and the voice is similar to mark too...its like he aged...the joker i mean...id pick him if i have to.
You know, I don't mind John that much, it's just that he really can't laugh anywhere near as legendary as Mark can, and I know that's a high and admittedly almost unreachable bar to achieve, but even I can do the laugh better that John does here... it just really feels forced and doesn't have the psychotic off the wall, natural feel to it.. what I mean is that it doesn't sound like Joker laughing, it sounds like John TRYING to Joker laugh
They talked about the first scene with the cape and chemical incident in Arkham City Joker tapes. How he was forced to Rob the power plant by Falcone's men with that helmet and cape on.
@FakeAndGhrey Well yeah but he's never going to tell anyone the truth about how he got the way he is. He likes the fact that people have no idea who he was before his accident so they can't call him anything other than the Joker.
@Evoblack1 The voice actor that does the joker in this movie is the Dog from "Adventure Time" Bender from "Futureama" and Marcus Fenix from "Gears of War"
About his voice. It really suits, and Mark Hamil is more... "TV Cartoon"; I love Hamil, but in this case, given the kind of drawing, the storyline, and the entire atmosphere of the movie... John DiMaggio works even better than the classic Mark Hamil's work
They need to make a DC series where the villains are actually allowed to KILL PEOPLE! Seriously it's sort of boring how they ALWAYS save the civilian, I think they should slip up every now and then
Sure, Hamill set the bar for the animated joker, but this guy is pretty good. I mean, his voice (while not being Hamill) still has both the whimsey and the insanity to make a good joker. Which it does.
I really wish they would make this into a series, i would pay so much money to see something like this. Imagine it, Two-Face actually killing people. Maybe even Killer Croc eating people alive for once. I'd love to see Penguin using his trick umbrella-gun again.
Of course these are all pipe dreams, this kind of show wouldn't even make it past the censorship office. I mean unless it was on HBO, then it's a different story.
Is it a coincidince that Robin called himself the red hood because joker was the first red hood or does he have a meaning??? sorry i'm new and sorry I can't spell coinidince
@LOLIamEpic In the comics they say he was mimicing batman who became batman because he was scared of bats and wantted to conquer that fear/scare others and Jason is scared of the Joker...
Sorry to say, I'm not a fan of this voice for Joker. I'm not saying this just because I prefer Mark Hamil. Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, even stupid looking the Joker from "The Batman" all had a thing in common; they all made the Joker sound psychotic. When he isn't doing the laugh, John DiMaggio sounds more like Lex Luthor.
I wonder what would have happened if Batman had fallen in there instead of Red Hood. Would Red Hood have ended up a hero, protecting Gotham from a psychotic, murderous Batman?
Ok so when the Joker is talking about his replacement, did he kill Robin or something? I know THAT Nightwing is the old Robin but was there a second Robin or something? I'm lost, haven't watched Batman in forever!
@NaNew21 Yea he meant the second robin Jason Todd. Joker killed him by beating the crap out of him with a crowbar and then blowing up the warehouse he was in.
Dick Grayson and Bruce have a falling out, and quits.
Jason Todd is then trained by Bruce after Jason stole the wheels of the Batmobile, seeing a kid that had so much promise and it reminded him of Dick, he trains Jason Todd to be the new Robin.
Joker later kills Robin in the comic Death in the Family. He is later resurrected when Superboy Prime alters reality from the paradise dimension
There are some points in Johns performance that make him seem like an actual incarnation of the joker himself, the laugh, his sadistic nature but there are other moments where I just picture Marcus Phoenix delivering the line.
Crazy how some gay bird boy can grow up into such a hot sauce. Yum.
The problem I see with this Joker is that he's too much like Mark. Not the manners, but the voice itself. The way he talks is very interesting though, it shows less insanity and more sadism.
I think John DiMaggio actually did a Fantastic Job as the Joker and made it his own. And I am a Huge fan of Mark Hamill's Joker as well too but John was able to be both Frighting and Funny at the same time.
Why does Joker insist on referring to Dick as Birdboy? A Nightwing doesn't have that much to do with birds, right? For that matter, where DID they come up with the name Nightwing?
@roselle495 Writer Marv Wolfman first came up with that name for Dick back in the mid 1980s in the Teen Titans story 'The Judas Contract', The name Nightwing was taken from when Superman & Jimmy Olsen were two Batman & Robin type of characters who fought crime in The Bottle City of Kandor, back in the 1960s, in the 1970s some other Kandorian crimefighters took that name. I think the whole DC Nightwing continuity changed after the recent New 52 reboot. Long explanation I know, but you did ask.
DiMaggio also plays Bender, Marcus Fenix. Fu Dog, Hak Fu, The Scottsman, Dr. Drakken, Motor Ed, Jake the Dog, Brother #2, Burt the Spurt,Uka Uka, Brute Chieftan, Sideways, and on an on...love this guy...
@1Kurt9Donald9Cobain4 Yeah Johnny D. Is pretty much the new Jim Cummings. When ever you hear that beratone voice alternate to new and riveting personalities for the characters he plays you really want to get more into the animation.
yes mark hamill is the best and the original, but John also does an amazing job. Hamill said hes not doing the voice anymore but if John takes his spot as the go to guy for the joker then I have no problem. Johns has the same qualitys that the jokers voice needs. happy yet sinister with a lingering tone of "youre going to die", just like hammil
Geez, what's with all the Hamill fanboying? Surely, the whole point of the Joker is that he changes a lot. You just can't have one definitive Joker, because it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the character.
(Loljoke, DiMaggio is better. Go back to your nostalgiafagging.)
@ShinyVelvetRose1 Agree, but tell me do John's joker has a more subtle twisted humor than Mark Hamil? I think that subtle ability is what make this joker more dark.
@ShinyVelvetRose1 everyone who played as the joker, be it a voice actor or a physical actor, have always had their own portrayal of him. Mark Hamill's was very cartoony and comical which worked, John DiMaggio's makes me think more of a sadistic and cocky mob boss.
John Dimaggio is actually pretty good. If I had to rate all the animated Jokers, I'd rate him number two. Right in between Mark Hammil and Kevin Michael Richardson.
@MrHowdarethee Essentially. In the live-action movies like The Dark Knight, Joker is seen as a guy who pretty much puts on warpaint/makeup. But in the actual comic books and t.v show, Joker was a petty crook by the name of Red Hood who accidentally fell into a chemical vat when running away from Batman, which led to his skin being bleached, hair dyed green, and lips bright red permanently.
@jvitzu He's amazing as Joker, sure,, but not irreplaceable by any means. DiMaggio did a fine job in this movie, and even the guy who did Joker's voice in The Batman was great.
You look good... been workin' out? You could probably use a little Sun (son)... then again, who am I to talk? *bursts into laughing* - Okay now THAT was fucked up, funny but scary as shit, hes a psychopath!
I'm so glad they never show joker without his disfigurment. It keep the evils he embodies in a form we can readily identify. Seeing him as normal would give an opportunity to connect with a villain in a more humane way. But no, we all know and love him as this fucking evil beast.
@FEAROWNAGE i kno right if they gave him a Harley Quinn with a cool outfit and a sexy voice, they would have made the 2nd best animated Joker and Harley(Behind Mark Hamill and Arleen Sorkin)
@dannybosa as opposed to the joker in the animated series, who was a hitman for the mafia before his accident. funny, how the more brutish joker was the formerly nice guy version as opposed to the former hitman version
@NICKREAPER316 In the also canon story, Batman: The Man Who Laughs, which was made public in 2005, Batman chases a criminal named Red Hood (in the classic costume) through the chemical company, and he jumps into a vat of toxic chemicals to escape Batman. Later in the story, when Bruce is investigating to find who Joker is, he finds some employees at the now shutting down plant, who have white bleach spots because of chemical splash back, and he learns another got his arm hair colored green.
@NICKREAPER316 It really is, but "The Man Who Laughs" is considered so by DC... and is the post-crisis telling of Joker's first appearance in Gotham. If they ever animate "The Killing Joke", "The Man Who Laughs" is another one I hope they eventually get to.
"oh come on bats, you and i know, that if you had the guts for that kind of fun, you would have done it a long time ago"- The Joker, he knows batman would never kill him, and still, he never managed to kill batman either
@Dewani90 In the words of the Heath Ledger Joker, "I don't wanna kill you! what would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob bosses? no. You.....complete....me!"
Joker comes off as a pedophile when he tells nightwing about his big boy pants considering his Robin pants were just green underwear and pixie boots with no leg covering
@batstooge2 I believe it was the "Justice Leauge" when all the League went around Vagas defusing Joker Bombs, the episode where we met Ace but Batman suggested to Harley that the Joker was a pedophile then too
@aoinatafanboy84 Yah I'll have to go look that up, and at he very beginning where he was beating Robin I hate to say it but I got the vibe he was enjoying it in more ways than one. =/
@blackandwhiteangel13 That's PRECISELY what I meant. Joker is psychotic but any medium you look at. He genuinely enjoys torturing and maiming Robin. He didn't beat Tim with a crowbar but constantly subjecting him to electric shock is just as similar.
@blackandwhiteangel13 That's why I agree wholeheartedly, I know JL and JLU had their adult undertones and the original films are free from it. Joker still had to have really messed up Ace's head and been really far gone as well.
@blackandwhiteangel13 However, there was Prank on The Batman Kevin Michael Richardson Joker doesn't have that habit. He did take him under his wing to mold an apprentice, but, no abuse or any of it. He just indulged his joking nature but nothing more than that.
I get why joker hasn't gotten the death penalty, hes insane, but what about penguin. He kills people all the time, isn't crazy, shouldn't he get the death penalty already?
I think they where just trying something new with the YJ Joker, a sort of cross between Mark Hamil and Heath Ledger's takes on the character ... was a good try but didn't really hit it off.
@Thunderbender18 I think I will agree with you on that. My brother said the same thing. I still give Brent Spiner credit for voice acting though, the same goes for Hamill and Dimaggio. I just believe in honest interpretation. Like Robert Englund's VA career He always made Riddler and Felix Faust intelligent and slightly crazed.
Mark Hamill did an awesome Joker, it goes without saying, but we can't be stuck in the past.

@FEAROWNAGE i kno right if they gave him a Harley Quinn with a cool outfit and a sexy voice, they would have made the 2nd best animated Joker and Harley(Behind Mark Hamill and Arleen Sorkin)
Lanternfan619 3 months ago
you got to feel sorry for joker well a little because he only tried to take off his mask then the "thing" happened
dannybosa 4 months ago
@dannybosa as opposed to the joker in the animated series, who was a hitman for the mafia before his accident. funny, how the more brutish joker was the formerly nice guy version as opposed to the former hitman version
Expendable2010 4 months ago
It's cool that the guy who plays as Marcus fenix in gears of war did jokers voice in this movie

@Shikamaru392 And Jake from Adventure Time. Bender from Futurama. Many, many more.

how old is the joker?
iSnipedapandaonce 4 months ago
@iSnipedapandaonce Probably late 30's or early 40's. Pretty much the same as Batman.
ceitiosaurus 3 months ago
How did the guy get burnt alive but the cards stayed intact at 0:15?
CruuushaL 4 months ago
@CruuushaL because the guy who fell was the joker and the acid turned him into the joker
MOUPIMOUPI 4 months ago
@CruuushaL because the chemicals weren't neccessarily acidic, just had adverse reactions to human tissue.

batman and nightwing disliked this

I thought Joker's Red Hood origin from The Killing Joke wasn't canon because he could never remember it the same way each time.
NICKREAPER316 4 months ago
@NICKREAPER316 In the also canon story, Batman: The Man Who Laughs, which was made public in 2005, Batman chases a criminal named Red Hood (in the classic costume) through the chemical company, and he jumps into a vat of toxic chemicals to escape Batman. Later in the story, when Bruce is investigating to find who Joker is, he finds some employees at the now shutting down plant, who have white bleach spots because of chemical splash back, and he learns another got his arm hair colored green.
fgossage 3 months ago
@fgossage With all the different writers it's almost impossible to determine canon--tuity...canonacolism...canon--umm...what's canon and what's not.
NICKREAPER316 3 months ago

At 2:07 it sounds almost like Jack 's Joker laugh (when he frys the guy with his hand buzzer)
DistrictAttorneyDent 4 months ago
I love this version of the joker, but the laugh doesn't have the manic, high-pitched feel.

Joker comes off as a pedophile when he tells nightwing about his big boy pants considering his Robin pants were just green underwear and pixie boots with no leg covering
batstooge2 4 months ago
@batstooge2 I believe it was the "Justice Leauge" when all the League went around Vagas defusing Joker Bombs, the episode where we met Ace but Batman suggested to Harley that the Joker was a pedophile then too
blackandwhiteangel13 4 months ago
@blackandwhiteangel13 not to mention the obvious fact he was getting off on tormenting Tim Drake in Return of the Joker.
aoinatafanboy84 3 months ago
@aoinatafanboy84 Yah I'll have to go look that up, and at he very beginning where he was beating Robin I hate to say it but I got the vibe he was enjoying it in more ways than one. =/
blackandwhiteangel13 3 months ago
@blackandwhiteangel13 That's PRECISELY what I meant. Joker is psychotic but any medium you look at. He genuinely enjoys torturing and maiming Robin. He didn't beat Tim with a crowbar but constantly subjecting him to electric shock is just as similar.
aoinatafanboy84 3 months ago
@aoinatafanboy84 Yah, he's twisted in the head of course, and in practically every series with him in it that it implies he's a pedophie too O.o
blackandwhiteangel13 3 months ago
@blackandwhiteangel13 That's why I agree wholeheartedly, I know JL and JLU had their adult undertones and the original films are free from it. Joker still had to have really messed up Ace's head and been really far gone as well.

blackandwhiteangel13 3 months ago
@blackandwhiteangel13 However, there was Prank on The Batman Kevin Michael Richardson Joker doesn't have that habit. He did take him under his wing to mold an apprentice, but, no abuse or any of it. He just indulged his joking nature but nothing more than that.
aoinatafanboy84 3 months ago
@aoinatafanboy84 Yah I'll have to look that one up

@aoinatafanboy84 What episode is it called and from which series I can't seem to find it

@blackandwhiteangel13 If you mean the appearance of Prank it is in The Batman Season 3 Episode 10

I get why joker hasn't gotten the death penalty, hes insane, but what about penguin. He kills people all the time, isn't crazy, shouldn't he get the death penalty already?
riddlerrulez 4 months ago
@riddlerrulez insane. he's also in arkham. "the memories of his horrable childhood haunted him and caused him to lose his mind"
theXtreme1man 4 months ago
@riddlerrulez Because Red Hood believed in an eye for an eye not the ultimate extermination of villainy.

As much as I love the Joker I wish Batman would just kill him already >.> hes too dangerous.

@Thunderbender18
I think they where just trying something new with the YJ Joker, a sort of cross between Mark Hamil and Heath Ledger's takes on the character ... was a good try but didn't really hit it off.
theemrx 4 months ago
@Thunderbender18 I think I will agree with you on that. My brother said the same thing. I still give Brent Spiner credit for voice acting though, the same goes for Hamill and Dimaggio. I just believe in honest interpretation. Like Robert Englund's VA career He always made Riddler and Felix Faust intelligent and slightly crazed.
aoinatafanboy84 3 months ago
@Lanternfan619 Kudos to the voice indeed but I thought the design wasn't that bad... With the exception of the side-burns.
