  • For $45K you could buy a 40" travel trailer that is completely decked out. For $19K you could buy a nice mid range travel trailer that is very nicely equipped. For $2k you could buy a 40" shipping container, cut it to length and deck it out yourself for about another $5K- $7K.

Hate to say it but this is a horrible idea ! lol

  • I have known several people over the years that live in camp trailers. Is this really a new life style, or is it an elitist approach to what has existed for some time?

  • It's more expensive than I expected.....

  • Hi, I am new to this - I don't know if alot of people in NJ have these homes? How does it work? You have to buy the land correct? And you pay taxes on the land and the little house? What type of tax would you say they put on a house like this? If, that's not too personal - I don't know if my town would allow me to have one, I'm a single woman with kids that have left for college.

  • i think he is gorgeous

  • My shoes alone would fill up the house. I'm all for it in principle though!

  • its better than living in a glass chicken coop

  • Thats Expensive!

  • i love this house wow :)

  • what a surprise he is a faggot who is dedicated to saving the environment. the worst kind

  • @xBAIRDYx your an idiot mann, he said he's got a wife and their having a baby, why dont you open your ears before you open your mouth

  • Made me feel a lot better about my small house (:

  • In detroit, your home will be flagged as condemned if you are NOT tied into the grid. Move from the city.

  • They Spend 30 years or sometimes more cleaning it.

  • wow that looks pretty awesome! if u got a watersaving showerhead in there it would be even better;) this is how im gonna build my camper!

  • One word: Claustrophobic!

  • @Ildefonso54 This house should be a torture chamber for them xD but in style. lol

  • WOW! $45,997 or Build it yourself: $19,950 ?? My friend bought condo, 2 bedroom 1000sq ft foreclosure for less then 20,000 !

  • @sn9696 are you living at the same country as he is?

  • @338888 ,not sure if your question is serious or not, but yes i live in the same country he does! Friend paid less than $20,000 and its 8 miles from the beach!

  • these houses aren't tiny - the average home is just unnecessarily huge.

Think about all the useless, unused space in your house, that you will with all your useless, unused junk.

  • good luck getting poon in that thing lol

  • @fortunadodesperado I think it would be easy - it's a small, cozy, romantic space.

  • 45,997 is a bit expensive

  • so tiny can i hav it to get away from my brother

  • I can't believe people can live in such a small area. However, I'm starting to like the idea, and wouldn't mind building a house like this and not have a mortgage. Excellent idea, and it actually doesn't look that small when you are inside.

  • The price for these tiny houses is waaaaaay too much. In florida, you can buy a decent 2 story house with 3 bedroom 3 bathroom , washer, dryer, tile floors, 1400 sq. feet for as little as $30,000 cash. Why the hell would I want to buy a tiny house for $45,000 and develop clautrophobia. That tiny house looks like its only worth $5,000-$10,000 at most.

  • I love this!!! I want him to build me a house!

  • Hmm 600sqft. for 3 people... *Looks around* geez I've got a lot of space in my basement.

  • These seemed cool for a second, but then it just got ridiculous. Get a normal house for the same price as these, it's called a foreclosure. Find one.

  • Hmm...I´m realy facinated...nice!!

  • I love it! It's a beautiful little place and if you don't like the neighbours you can just hook it up to your car and leave...awesome! :o)

  • Yes, it's a tiny place, but I bet this person has a big ass storage shed that he is renting.

  • @floridaironclad yeah he could have a storage shed, but what would he put in it?

  • This is awesome.

  • Wow imagine how warm and cozy this house would be in the winter. I would love to live in this house more than ANY house out there.

  • 1 person can't make a difference

  • I am interested in building a small home for myself after I am through with college, but I have a question that I haven't seen answered online. Where do you get the land to build on? I don't know what legal issues would be involved with building a small home like this. Could you help point me in the right directioin?

    Thanks

  • In many US counties single family zoning laws set minimum size standards: usually from about 260 square feet and up). By building on wheels, many tiny home builders try to get around regulations, but they still are required to find a "legal" spot to park it (i.e. a trailer park). As for parking behind your house or the home of a friend/family member, many counties will allow you to build a tiny home on wheels, but they don't consider it a legal residence.

  • @kirstendirksen don't tell anybody that someone is living there and just use the main address for that person too.

  • @kirstendirksen Well of course..Without all the regulations how would they get paid?

  • @kirstendirksen how much will you sell it :( D: i want one

  • @jjpharissTheReal1 They're not mine. I just filmed the video. Jay sells them, as I wrote in the text, as plans for $859; ready made for $45,997 & to build it yourself for $19,950.

  • @kirstendirksen I would love on of those. BTW, do you have room for air conditioning:

  • @ReviewCam Those at the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company (I just filmed the video, they build them & sell plans) say on their website regarding one of their models: "Yes, a small ceiling a/c unit can be added to keep the house cool in any climate within the US."

  • I've also heard people talk about living off grid in order to get around building inspections (they often are required for hookups).
Many zoning rules vary by county. The codes seem complicated to me, but I read a few very interesting blog posts from a building code regulator (from Colorado) here: sustainablebuildingcodes . blogspot . com (remove the spaces)

  • Well done brother!

  • His house is bigger then the room I live in.

  • The impoverished people of the world have less as they are wanting, thus they are: IMPOVERISHED. Having less is a cop-out. America's foundering middle class would live in large piles of hollowed out, hardened elephant shit to “save” mother Earth if the corporate media instructed them to.

  • nice design, I like the layout of it, the only problem is, when you wake up in the middle of the night and want to go to the bathroom, you need to climb down the stair, and climb back up too.

  • These videos are just frigging amazing.

  • Reminds me of minecraft...

  • This is my minecraft house.

  • Who's garden is his house in?

  • At 2:47 is how he is able to live in such a small place!

  • my neighbors car is bigger then your house.

  • i see the idea behind this, but on the other hand, you only live once. why not live in a big house if thats what you want? theres nothing wrong with wanting things. are some houses a bit much? of course. but you have to find that line of what you need vs what you want and come somewhere in the middle. however with growing population we are going to need to learn to live smaller or with more people.

  • so hes going to the other shitty house anyway 500sq ft wow should of just bought a normal house to start with

  • what if i decide to just burn that you're house...

  • haha vodka

  • I just... I couldn't live in such a small space.

  • I found trailers with fireplaces, big tvs, great mattresses, lofts, dishwashers, mini bars, couches for less than this house. And room to actually move.

  • Everyone is saying it is a better deal to get a camper trailer for the price of these houses. So I looked around. You can get this trailer for less.

  • amazing... I am from India .. People here want to own big houses cause there is a concept of joint family.. I wish they could hear your point of you... I agree ,its too difficult to clean and make the house look spic and span at all times.. Now that you are married ,did you ever cook in that kitchen?

  • @ektachopra75 Once Jay got got married and had a child he moved into a 500 square foot home next door to this. I filmed a newer video with him last summer that I put here as a video response ("Tiny open house"). I can understand how people would want more space than this if they have a family & especially extended family. But I don't think people always need all the space we think we do. I have a video of a family of 3 living in 320 sq ft: "Shotgun shack redux: mortgage-free in 320 square feet".

  • Were does the sewage go/store?????

  • @guitargeek1122 From the Tumbleweed website: "All of our houses on wheels are plumbed to be connected to public water and sewer. The water comes in through a white RV hose, and leaves via an RV sewer valve. A sewer hose would connect the house to the sewer. In the event you aren’t connected to the sewer, we recommend a portable tank (or two)..."

  • My kid's playhouse is bigger than this. I would go nuts in a hut like this. These wheels prove this is just a little camper at the end of the day.

  • My kid's playhouse is bigger than this. I would go nuts in a hut like this.

  • Why don't you just go live in japan... Imagine 5 rooms IN THAT HOUSE OF YOURS.

Go to Japan and top that please.

  • i like that!!^_^ How Much?? my e-mail starboydance@yahoo.com.hk Thankyou so much^_^

  • @dydypig I just filmed the video with Jay, but he has a company called Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. If you google it you can see all their houses. They sell plans as well as completed homes (they also do workshops). These aren't cheap. I just checked their website and it says this for the Epu (which is the home featured in the video):

    Ready made: $45,997

    Build it yourself: $19,950

    Purchase plans: $859

  • You know, in London, this would be a "massively spacious, quirky and cosy living space".

  • It's weird that there are regulations against small houses.

A smaller house ought to be stronger in high winds than a larger house. Less surface area, plus the cube-square law working in your favor (e.g, drop a glass marble on the ground, it's fine. Drop a glass crystal ball on the ground, it shatters into a thousand pieces)

  • @DoktorAlanGrant Yeah, there was a part in the video where at 5:38 Jay Shayfer talks about how this regulation against small homes were pushed by the house and insurance industry during the 70's. Since profits were going down down, they needed a way to convince people they needed bigger houses. So the housing authorities took over these codes.

  • 20k for some wood ?No thanks.

  • so over 50,000 dollars for one of these is ridiculous...for that price Ill just buy a kickass rv, or even a small home.

  • niceeee

  • I wonder if He's gonna chintz out on his coffin? lol! Maybe be quartered, then stacked inside it!

  • This is ok if your are single. Sharing such a small place with another person ( specialy in winter time) will drive you insane. Someone may end up in a shallow grave.

  • This is a pretty good idea, I wouldn't mind living in one as long as it had a few luxuries like a small Window or wall AC unit, and plumbing.

  • PSHHHHH! 89 square ft?!? well, i will live in a 60 to 70 square foot home.

  • how does the sink work?? is it just that small tank full and have to fill it up every day?? is thee hot water? any water pressure?

  • @ThePsycheSociety The plumbing in this house was pretty basic, even for Jay. He had to fill both the sink and shower systems himself. The one for the shower was in the loft and he would just carry water up there so the water pressure was based on the height of the bucket up there. I know that he has much more advanced systems in some of his other homes, but this was just very basic.

  • really, you wont be able to live in this house forever, when your 80 you cant climb up the ladder andf your back gets stiff so you need a bigger place to sleep

  • @ThePsycheSociety

for him did you not see the part where he brought the other 500 ft house next door?

and for others if if if they live to be that old well the savings on not paying mortgage would pay nuff to move?

  • @17hmr243 im just saying if you planned to live in this for a while, and i guess you maybe could because ur in shape from climbin the lader all the time

  • @ThePsycheSociety

cool wasnt bugging u wer just seeing if i could help awnser you sorry

  • For that money he could a lot nicer

  • @lpdavisakgto Someone could easily build one for far less then the quoted 19k themselves. Honestly I think you could easily build one you're self for less the 5k if you knew where to get stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • @thedarkone2134 You CAN build it yourself for less than 5k - it's been done by many people already! All you need are the plans and decide what you want to do and start building.

  • 18 x18 would be my choice

  • What stove is this?

  • This is the same size as my kitchen! I think it's cute though.

  • I love these tiny houses, but my interests span so many areas that the equipment I use for all my hobbies and professions would take up too much space. Hm, maybe something a little larger, but still smaller than your usual house...

  • Okay, so something's wrong with google, apparently. If you search for "89 sq ft house," this doesn't show up, but if you search for "96 sq ft house" this is the first 3 results...

  • @HiatusLucari Great sleuthing work. It was actually titled 96 sq ft house for the first year or so and then I realized I had the square footage off and changed it. I didn't realize the Internet had such a memory.

  • i love the tumbleweed houses they are beautiful

  • That is totally awesome! I love it

  • i would rather live in a fifth wheel

  • Im gonna buy a small 500 dollar city lot and build this.

  • I'm too claustrophobic for this

  • Not economical that's for sure. Fencl model (130 sq. ft.) $53,997 ready made. That's $415 a sq. ft. Go to a RV dealer. Tell the sales man you want to buy a travel trailer and are willing to spend $415 a sq. ft. You will be amazed!!! Oh and if you are wondering what to do with all that left over money, buy a nice truck to pull your new travel trailer. Or you could buy a foreclosed home.

  • i love it! i always loved just enough room for myself and a big enviroment around me. small kitchen and a big bed thats for me!

  • @Cherelizbe he prepared for the kids, him and his wife built one over 400 sq ft. plenty of space, with a room for the child as well.

  • adorable tiny house - adorable man

  • LOL wow

  • smirnoff!! :)

  • In that house the mice would be hunchback. One fart and the whole house would stink and all the walls would be brown.

  • The cost of this thing is unreal considering there is nothing to it really. Defiantly NOT something I would even consider at all.

  • @justmom66 You could build it far cheaper yourself.

  • I love the house but not the sleeping loft. I need to be able to sit straight up in the middle of the night or when I am reading, not tilted over with a crook in my neck. It would make me feel confined. I like Thoreau's plan better with just one room. But this home is beautifully built with an amazing eye to details.

  • i like this model but i think i would rather have a fencl, more living space because their isnt that desk taking up a third of your living rom, and more cooking space

  • Meanwhile in Asia...

  • 2:45 FREEZE O_O!!!!!!!!! You going to finish that?

  • @chamblizi dude relax. it's just a vodka bottle...

  • Do Not Rent to Own (BUY) and (OWN)

Thumbs up this if you think thats what fucked the economy up

  • Why do humans need to get used to live like chickens stuffed in a cage?? Even animals fight for their own territory just because having a "territory" that is larger than a cage is a natural instinct. Things like this make me feel sad, because they are a reminder of how the exponential growth of the human population on the planet is affecting the quality of life of each and everyone of us. It is scary how rapidly the space (and other resources) that is available for each human is decreasing

  • @R0SS4N4 we use to have a very small place to sleep on the tree like todays chmps. After that we were hiding inthe night in small holes or caves, then started to build over own small huts. So dont be sad to see this, we still have that instinct some where in our brains corner.Holland has started to build floating houses for the future man kind, for which we have space enough over the oceans, aftera millenium the human meat will be a delicatess. ha ha ha

  • @R0SS4N4 i don't know? I mean, I just do not like the expense of larger places. The cleaning, the time to maintain adn take care of them. The hrs put out at the job to pay for the costs of the home all around. Nah, I don't think it is sad, it is a brilliant answer to those frustrations that people do not focus enough on. It is a revelation if anything. I am currently looking to create a 200sq ft home out of our detached garage to live in and rent out our 1160 sq ft 3 bedroom home. Or vice versa.

  • @djkenny Yeah i can understand that. Many however, especially those living in very crowded overpriced cities, have to get used living in such constrained spaces that they look like cages and have no choice. That (having no choice) is the sad part to me. As to the cleaning, to my experience if the place gets too small, everything is packed up to the point that it is difficult to move stuff to clean around. Also, when people dont have a yard, it is particularly hard to live in very small houses.

  • @R0SS4N4 i don't know? I mean, I just do not like the expense of larger places. The cleaning, the time to maintain and take care of them. • It looks comfy and focused enought for one man always going away and doing something, or being a basement faggot over the internet but living there with a family? No, never.

  • Less greenhouse gases...but the smug he is creating is off the charts.

  • @homerjay1984 is it, really? he doesn't seem smug at all. he just seems content

  • Now this is just getting silly now.... Next he will want to get buried in it.

  • That is amazing! Even though I could live one that small, personally I would want a custom one slightly bigger... you know.. for more women to join in and relax

  • So, you like living in shed...

  • Mine broke..

  • well we have one thing for sure... this house will never get haunted cos not even the ghosts would wanna live in it :P.... but then again im just kiddin...

its really a pretty house.. nice job for making that possible :)

  • I don't think my fat ass would fit in that. lol

  • wow my Lord no I will keep my 3,000 square-foot home lol

  • well...its enough room to live..but i would like to see a video telling us about all the issues that it causes.

not just about its soooooooooo cool.

problems are many i would bet.

  • SMIRNOFF Yeah buddy

  • Those books can be consolidated to e-books..

  • "I keep the fridge here, and toaster oven on top of it....OH yeah and some Smirnoff Vodka on those crazy nights... now if you come this way."

  • @Jhaysea Its for when he has his 20 or so friends over!

  • Just having one can be very useful for any reason, one immediate concern is if someone is a wide bodied bodybuilder, a few more inches of space could be useful lol, and being close to a laundrymat

  • Just throwing out im pretty sure a highschooler could design this for me, for a 2 litre of mountain dew and a large pizza... Which is way cheaper than 859 dollars for plans.

  • @ZeusFace101

lol, I know. I think the little house is pretty cool but I can't believe what they charge. I've seen them for sale online too asking more money than my dad's 1,500sq ft house on 2 acres of land cost (with a large separated garage). They're out of their gourds. If they would charge a reasonable price for these little houses I'd probably get one.

  • this video makes me want to marry an architect in the future so i can live in a home like this.

  • HOT BOX?

  • now, i dont like big house!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You did a fabulous job at organizing this and getting use out of every little bit of space. Thank you so much for listing the cost. I hate seeing everyone talking about tiny/small homes but not listing where to buy them or the cost. You would really have to be able to do it yourself to make it worth it I think. Great for college students I bet.

  • 8 x 12ft hmm I thought that was the average measurement of a Americans waist ....nice house but honestly it's tooo small unless you had it as a weekend house by the lake

  • Smirnof!

  • just dont make coolaid and have them drink all at once

  • Comment removed

  • Where are you exactly? In Italy a place has to fit within some set rules, else you can't get permission to live in it.. I think the bathroom itself has to be 4 square meters else they come and knock the place down! lol

  • @aaaarrrgggghh He builds his house on wheels to bypass those building codes.

  • I have to go outside just to think..

  • with this economy, I'm considering this type of home

  • Wow this guy really needs to join us in the 21st centry. Seriously i could build a "house" that size in a few days i think my sisters had one growing up its called a play house. I would love to meet this guy and laugh in his face and steal his bike becasue you know he wants to stay eco friendly or maybe its an excuse for bad credit oh well all i know is that im going to do something more with my life than live in a play house, but its cool man youre doing your part in saving our planet haha

  • @haterswillhate12 Haters gonna hate

  • @haterswillhate12 With all the money you waste paying a mortgage he can use to do fun things with. Imagine what you can do with not having to pay $500-800 a month for a mortgage.

  • wait, 8ftx12ftx2 floors=89sq ft?

  • I love this guys perspective about his living space. :)

  • THis is dope

  • I was gonna say just live in an apartment, there are small apartments. And then I saw it.

  • Well you're fucked in any natural disaster -_-

  • @Yourebeautiful310 How? These homes are completely immune to natural disaster. I guess a flood could affect you if your truck quit running and you were dumb enough to park by a flooding river. LOL. Other than that, he'll be the only person in his neighborhood with power and water.

  • 17k can buy u a nice, decent rv whats smart about building this thing u call a house...wtf

  • fart n die situation

  • 45k for that, I could build a 2 car garage with an apartment on top for that...

  • @MrBosshobbs preach it brother, I would rather have two carbon spewing bat shit cars than a big ass house.

  • lol voice crack?

  • what's that big house on his ground at 6:00 ???

  • how did this guy get permission from Chuck Norris to live in his mailbox?

  • Ya... fuck that.

  • He must get a lot of spiders in that thing. Eek.
