Avatar is a "cool" film for the new generation. It is graphic-oriented and loud. I guess that's what people like these days. Hardly anyone cares about the story aspect of movies anymore.
The only good thing about Avatar was the graphics. The story has been used before (in movies such as Pocahontas). Avatar deserves technical awards, which it did receive. But it defintely does NOT deserve the important awards like Best Picture, Best Screenplay, or Best Director. The Hurt Locker deserved all the awards it got. It is a very realistic film with a lot of meaning. If you watch it and actually pay attention to the details, you will learn to appreciate it.
@quidproquo2004 I liked the movie, i just thought the whole interspecies love thing was weird. Sexuality is a positive thing, I hear ya but i don't think people would be saying the same thing if that happened in real life. But it's just a movie so whatever.

James Cameron confirmed Avatar 2 again (recently), and since both Zoe Saldana both Sam Worthington had signed up for multiple films at the start, well.... we shall see them again. :-)

Oh yeah. And how do you make an orignal story these days. I mean comeon. There's like 9999 million movies out there. There's always a movie with a somewhat similar story. It was easy for the first movies. Avatar was (is) great!

Avatar is a "cool" film for the new generation. It is graphic-oriented and loud. I guess that's what people like these days. Hardly anyone cares about the story aspect of movies anymore.

The only good thing about Avatar was the graphics. The story has been used before (in movies such as Pocahontas). Avatar deserves technical awards, which it did receive. But it defintely does NOT deserve the important awards like Best Picture, Best Screenplay, or Best Director. The Hurt Locker deserved all the awards it got. It is a very realistic film with a lot of meaning. If you watch it and actually pay attention to the details, you will learn to appreciate it.

Have you ever seen Dune, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa and Heavy Metal? that is what Avatar is actually like. Or read the Dune books? inspired by Dune.
It was written in 1993 before Pocahontas since Cameron had to wait until 2004 for the technology to evolve to get his vision right.

@quidproquo2004 I liked the movie, i just thought the whole interspecies love thing was weird. Sexuality is a positive thing, I hear ya but i don't think people would be saying the same thing if that happened in real life. But it's just a movie so whatever.

@redfirehands well the Na'vi do look alot like humans they are just different colour and have some different facial aspects so thats why jake fell in love with her!
plus it is a alien planet so they way they mate is obviously gonna be different lol...

@redfirehands . Inter-species (human/alien) love and inter-species mating has been on our TV screens on a Regular basis since the 1960s on shows like Star Trek. Either you don't own a TV or you have been living under a rock all your life.
I personally see nothing wrong with it. I thought Jake and Neytiri's relationship was beautiful.
If you think there was something wrong with it, then maybe you probably also dislike inter-ethnic or inter-religious relationships. Are you a closet Nazi?

@Trianuss1 Whoooooaaaaa, calm yourself my friend. All I did was ask if anyone thought it was awkward. I didn't see the movie and think "I hate this relationship they're having." I don't watch Star Trek so you'll have to use a better example then that also. And just because I thought it was awkward doesn't mean I'm a Nazi or hate inter-ethnic or inter-religious relationships. I mean where did you get that from hahaha. Inter-species and inter-ethnic are two different things. I meant no harm.

Not that I like it, but I think having the plot of this movie not be so original and instead having it be something a lot of people recognize and are familiar with was at least a SAFE, if not smart, thing to do considering how much money, time and effort went into this production.

if there's anything I've learned from this movie, it's this:
1, DO NOT MESS WITH THE TALL BLUE NATIVES. They will kick your trash.
2. DO NOT MESS WITH THE WILDLIFE. They will kick your trash even more so.
3. DO NOT SLEEP WITH THE LOCAL WOMEN. Very little works out after that.

i saw this movie 4-5 times till present and i enjoy every moment of this movie. Of course the special moments with Neytiri scenes :-)
