  • Maangchi, it is called Ice Kacang ( Ice and beans ) in Malaysia.

It is a Malaysian mixed indian mixed Malay dish, and we use a lot of other stuff like lemon grass, green beans, sweet corn, rose syrup etc.

  • @arthritismutilans It sounds delicious, too!

  • @Maangchi Wow, M! :D In the Philippines its called : Halo-halo [meaning in tagalog/spanish everything is mixed together ] it has shaved ice, milk, and sugar with additional ingredients like coconut, halaya (mashed purple yam), caramel custard, plantains, jackfruit, red beans, tapioca and pinipig being typical, red beans.

  • @JonasBroDemiSelFan55 yeah I tasted Halo-halo when I traveled to the Philippines. It was so good!

  • By the way, you guys should mix all the ingredients all together before you start to eat it. That's the way how you can enjoy the taste most. Probably Maangchi just forgot mentioning this.

  • we don't have alot of korean resturants or places where we can get korean stuff here in my town but i'm sure glad we have patbingsu here. i LOVE it to pieces!

  • Hi Maangchi, thank you so much for all of your recipes! I am half Korean and I usually go to Korea every summer to see my family. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go this year, and I really miss the taste of Korean foods like Patbingsu and Naengmyeon, so your recipes help me make them at home myself. Thank you!

  • oh, my gosh. maangchi, you are so tiny! or are the guys just very tall?

  • Really common Asian desert. You can put any fruit or other types of sweets on top:)

  • In Philippines, we call it halo-halo (Halo2x in texting). We add flan and ube ice cream (or halaya)

  • @migencluz yes, I heard about it. halo halo!

  • never thought there are some other countries who know this dessert. I just love it. Do you mind if you give me a fansign?

  • doesnt patbingsoo have corn flakes and milk?

  • @toyallydile good question! You can add whatever you like on top of the shaved ice. Check out the recipe on my website. I explained it there.

  • how can i make the sweet red beans ?

  • @CornPoppy010 Check out the recipe on my website. Good luck with making delicious patbingsu!

  • my favorite patbingsu is from koryodang on 34th street... its so good especially since they put a scoop of ice cream on top >.<

  • Do u think u could make some shrimo fried rice with some other side please :)

  • I love your little hat :) i enjoyed your ice thingy it was so GOod

  • Since you posted the recipe, I wanted to try this. I spotted it on the menu at the snack bar of my local Korean grocery store, but they kept telling me they weren't making it yet. I finally broke down and bought the supplies and ice shaver yesterday.

I'm eating a big bowl of it right now for the first time and it's delicious! I used different fruits and since I'm vegan, I subbed the condensed milk with sweetened coconut cream. Yum yum! Thanks for introducing me to my new fave summer treat!

  • @Jinxaire wow, thank you for sharing your story about patbingsu! Using sweetened coconut cream instead of condensed milk is an awesome idea. I should remember this for my vegetarian readers. If you want, leave this comment on "General discussion" on the forum on my website for my vegetarian readers. But if you have no time to do it, never mind.

  • there is a version of this recipe in every asian country, but it is low in fat, high in fibre and vitamins and minerals! a better alternative to ice cream and cake!

  • You are so cute and vivacious!!! :D I love watching you interact with the other Youtubers! Much love! <3

  • @sugarycactus yes, It was a great experience for me to meet such cool people. Thanks!

  • you also can add ice cream or coffee.

  • @oh7ohoh coffee sounds great to me!

  • Hi maangchi! I am your huge fan and I come here not only to get the recipes but also to enjoy your talk:) Im Japanese so I think I can get the Korean stuffs easier. my fav is tofu stew! I made so many times! btw, I watch massive Korean dramas and I just realized a lot of ramen was shown. is it popular in Korea? I love shin ramyun. do you eat ramen?

  • Maangchi you are soo cute! :) I love your videos!

  • looks so delicious! my favorite parts in patbingsu are the sweet red beans and ddok! Oh, and it tastes the best if you mix mix mix it all up first!

  • how do you prepare the sweet beans?.... that's so not common in my country, we only eat it salty

  • @Clausita26preciosa The recipe is on my website.

  • @Maangchi ok thanks

  • The Filipino version has purple ice cream, palm fruit and coconut shreds. Halo Halo!

  • @hardtechnoboy sounds good!

  • @hardtechnoboy Lol I was waiting for someone to comment that haha. :)

  • @hardtechnoboy that's what i thought of when i read the ingredients, halo halo! ube i think is what makes the ice cream purple. ohhh my god i'm craving it now ayyy nakooo -__-

  • eh i would honestly prefer putting in milk though. The condensed milk should be in there too but without milk, it's just too solid. Also, some syrup adds to great taste.

  • Maangchi, your bodyguards are hot! :-P

  • Haha, look how tall those men are compared to Maangchi :) but the food looks soooo fingerlicking good as always, yum :)

  • where do you get rice cake from? I have a asian grocery store nearby, but I can't find any there. Is it frozen? dried?

  • @TensaiHimeSama Check out the photo of the rice cake on my website please. It's sold in a package at a Korean grocery store. The taste is sweet, soft, and chewy.

  • @Maangchi Hey, thanks for the reply! I'm looking at pictures, and I see sliced rice cakes and the tubular kind. Which one of these should I add to patbingsu?

  • @TensaiHimeSama Type "rice cake for patbingsu" in the search box on my website.

  • @TensaiHimeSama i think its similar to the japanese mochi! (made of glut. rice, soft, chewy & sweet) try that out :)

  • I love Patbingsu! <3 The last time I had it was when I was in LA with friends. Any place in San Jose that has good patbingsu? :D

  • In Singapore, This is called "Ice Kachang".. Just some syrup, red bean, jelly and ice.. LOL

  • Looks very good, Maangchi you are a superstar!,Have the best day!

  • @udder777 thanks, u, too!

  • haha same in Philippines we called it HALO-HALO means Mixed..... fresh fruit or most of the time caramelized fruit in sugar with ice cream and leche plan ( egg yolk and milk cooked in steamer) on top.... so sweet and yummy... :)

    Hope you enjoyed it!

  • @Maangchi Thanks so much!

  • i want it right now..its soo hot these days and this will be perfect~ instead of buying ice cream im making this this summer~~ <3

  • @smellysmo You could always press "Crushed Ice" and the big pieces that come out of it just smash it with a hard object, i did that until i bought myself a ice shaving machine (its hand crank).

HAHA I feel the same way, they seem like they are having a horrible time, getting forced to eat it, faking it etc
