Casey is a great kid and certainly no dumb ass. He was a Vermont all-star player, played iron man and special teams in h.s., and now plays in college. He thought he caught the ball in the end zone, and analysis shows that he did ... by 2 feet. That's game over, because a missed FG is a dead ball when it breaks the plane. Unfortunately, the refs were 10 yards behind him with no view of the goal line. Also, his coaches should have told them not to get near the kick. You don't have to cover FGs.

In spite of what the announcer on the clip said, he was NOT in the endzone when he caught it (it would have been a dead ball if he was), but in the field of play. Obviously, he should not have caught it but just let the ball roll dead. But kids make mistakes sometimes.

You guys are pretty dumb. You can't have an incomplete pass on a return. You can only have that on offensive plays behind the line of scrimmage. The only penalty that maybe could have been called was a forward lateral, which could have been declined by the team that scored because it is not a dead ball penalty. And the ball didn't go forward so that doesn't matter anyway

Anytime someone intentionally throws the ball forward and it hits the ground without being caught it is an INCOMPLETE FORWARD PASS and the play is over. In a situation like this it would also be an ILLEGAL FORWARD PASS, but a forward pass none the less. If he had spiked the ball forward, it would have been an incomplete pass and the play would be over at that point.
