i have come up with a scientific theory but need some help to solve it......i have posted it on you-tube site "robert mueller (clip)".....just read my comments below the video.
Thanks for the music! I remember how excited I was in '86 when I heard that Floyd was FINALLY working on a new "album": then, how disappointed I was when I heard that Waters was not involved. No matter, another great Floyd sojourn that I listen to often. RIP Rick Wright...I am so thankful I got to see them during the Wall tour in '81 and again in '94. There will never be another band like Pink Floyd. Ground-breaking, prog-rock orginators.
Syd was looking for the key...but he was looking in the wrong place...LSD wont lead you anywhere only DMT will Syd should of done DMT and it would of saved him...DMT could of saved alot of young minds from being smashed...RIP SYD
Lol @MrVulgaris just shows to show how everybody likes different things, to not like this album or to like it the least. This is my favourite Floyd album... and i have listened to them all hundreds of times and like them all. Thats what makes the world interesting if everybody has different tastes.
@macasith Well, thanks for respecting my opinion. I'm certainly not badmouthing anyone who likes this album. As I said, the album does have a few shining moments.
Is that you Roger? Taking a break from sharing your thoughts on the Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking to badmouth, crap on, or otherwise demean David Gilmour?
No, Pink Floyd was never "Roger's Band". But then Roger was never the brightest candle and probably still thinks it was HIS band. Fortunately, all the other members got behind Gilmour.
@villastrangiato "With this line-up Pink Floyd achieved worldwide critical and commercial success with their concept albums The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall." -Pink Floyd's Wikipedia Page. Who was the leading member at the times of these albums? Waters. I like Gilmour as a person, as a guitarist, and as a singer; but as an individual artist, and a lyricist? I can't say I do.
@TheKodeman85 I've always pointed that out to people and they disagree with me, I mean final cut was mostly Waters works, and he got criticised for it, personally final cut is my favoruite "Floyd" album.
@Hennersy Final Cut is a really good album. I'm not a huge Waters guy as much as I a Gilmour fan, but there's nothing better than giving another listen to Final Cut or Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. He, like Gilmour, is a talented musician, although Waters seems to go for the more political side of things. Ha.
@MajBummer I'll listen to Pros and Cons, never have, thanks for the advice and yeah dude its just opinion, but i think i personally connect more with Waters meanings in his songs.
@Hennersy Waters puts way more meaning into a song, I can agree. Gilmour focuses on basic concepts, like flight, war, etc. I listened to Pros and Cons for the first time and hated it. But after each time I went through it, it proved to be an excellent album. Clapton played guitar on it, too.
@MajBummer It's funny you should mention that, because i had that with Pink Floyd in general, every album i've been shown, i've not liked at first, over the years i've just became a huge fan, although dsotm im not a big fan of, don't get me wrong i can still relax and listen to it, just i think its that album that gets to much credit and not others
@TheKodeman85 Well, it happens, you know? If I had to choose, myself, it'd be Gilmour hands down. Gilmour puts spirit into his songs. The only reason I like both is because I like the way Waters' albums play out. The Final Cut moved me in a way; as did Pros and Cons.
I think this webpage would have a massive improvement if you didn't spew your ignorant, obnoxious, and pretentious comments about the artist's work here. You have no clue whatsoever as to David Gilmour's artistic sense of direction or capabilities. Spare us the ignorant comparative drivel. In light of what generally passes as contemporary musical art these days, David Gilmour and the work of his collaborators such as Tony Levin and Lee Ritenour stands as genius.
@villastrangiato Just because I criticized one of Gilmour's albums, doesn't mean I think all his work is mediocre. I just didn't find this album to be as strong as other Gilmour-dominated works. I do admire the lyrics, but most of the music accompanying just sounds wrong, and I have to admit that Terminal Frost is one of the band's worst instrumentals.
I can't say I'm a big fan of this album. It has its moments - Learning to Fly especially - but I just can't get into it. Now I'm not one of those people who think Roger Waters was the "leader" of the band, but it seems as though Gilmour wasn't really sure what direction he wanted to take the band after Waters left. Once they came out with The Division Bell, he had figured it out - I think DB is a massive improvement over this album.
@MrVulgaris AMLOR is very much a product of its time - the 1980's. If you were an adult alive at the time, then you probably understand what I mean. The times were different then - the Reagan presidency, the Cold War was still on and the Soviet Union was well on its way to collapsing, the era of Greed is Good, etc. Gilmour did an outstanding job of capturing the spirit of the times in AMLOR. On the Turning Away & Dogs of War, for example - fits that time, and sadly, this one.
@TheFremenBlue Having listened to a lot of 80s music, I can definitely see what you mean when you say "this album is a product of its time." Sadly, that's why I don't really like it - a lot of songs come off as cheesy and even sappy.
this album is the reason why roger water could spit again into someone's face like he did back on 1977 by the way all dislikes on this video are done by roger waters .lol even i think its floyd best albums along with the division bell
i remember when i fell sick of hepatitis, i requested my mom if she could buy a pair of vynils for me. I explained her how the covers would be so she could identify them at the shop. About two hours later, she brought them to my bed. So, for the first time, i had in my hands A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Wish You Were Here. I love you, mom. (I'm not sure if my English is good).
This could have been a long lost Type O negative album, I see a lot of similarities really. One of my definate favorite albums of all time...I used to fall asleep to this every day for years, works better than any sleeping pill, just total ambient goodness!
@EclecticSceptic I listen to Floyd not only cuz I grew up inthe era but also when I make bread it makes the kitchen a calmer (Karma) place lol, good luck with your studies.
This album rules, with or without Roger Waters. I remember buying this on cassette tape back in 1996, and it's been a keeper since. I love the ambient, atmospheric feel of it.
Pink Floyd is such an epic band. I'm telling You!!! If aliens ever will land here on earth, we should play them some Floyd, they will fall to their knees and will worship us.
@Metallion69 That may be truer than could be imagined because if aliens did visit it certainly wouldn't be for thing's like technology as they would already have that but they may not have music and the mjghty Floyd would certainly open their eyes.Well thats what I think ^.^
