  • that bleeper is suberb. does the job(ish) and makes a fun sound haha

  • great video i also enjoy the sporting shooter evry month esspecially the ferrting article that you do ;)

  • hi can any 1 hlep me how do i train my ferret to be come a working 1 and wot will i need to go hunting plase email me it is jason2012@hotmail.co.uk

  • Do you go lamping at night?

  • I've heard of this but I've never seen it thanks jake and stern!!

  • i allwys thougt a good way was to set a fire in one of the tunels and the rest will fill up with smoke/heat and some nest to sover the rest=win ;D

  • are the ferrets hurt in any of this

  • I am not against hunting. This is a lot different then using a gun or a trap.

You can hear the neck of the rabbit get broken.Like on knock on the door.

    Nice job guys.It is interesting.

Are there also other mustela kinds you can using for rabbit hunting? Never seen a tame stoat or weasel.

The marbel polecat is a lovely animal. Can you use this kind also for hunting. To me it looks like it wont be tame easely.

Is this hunting technic the same as centuries ago? Weird the rabbits dont look stressed

  • Really sucks when they kill the rabbit in the hole.

  • Nice killing method....by far the best ive seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!One question......can a ferret anoy a badger that much so it will get out of its hole?.as it happens with rabbits?stupid question but wanna hear your opinion! Thanks in advance!

  • i didn't want to see how you killed the rabbit, but when I watched it I was very pleased at how you kill it, very merciful and I can understand how killing it with a spade would be worse, thank you for the video. also before I go i live in Aus and was wondering would farmers or land owners pay to get rid of a rabbit problem, or Is it just a bit of fun?

  • @SkittleArmageddon was wondering would farmers or land owners pay to get rid of a rabbit problem........

not manny and u;d have to all most garentee to get evry 1.

plus side is u ferret food is free if u catch ur rabbit so workes out same

    2nd

i shoot as well as use cross bows and i find it harder and harder to to get hunnting rights in vic

so i takeing up ferrets as well to ferret a fence line of farm is lot better than to be walking round with guns in eyes of LAW re- tresspassing

  • 3.20 disco time.. haha

  • I didn't know this existed or that ferrets were as friendly to Man as dogs. I hope the UK control freaks don't make this illegal too. I couldn't believe they actually outlawed fox hunting. Great video.

Do the ferrets return to you on their own? Do ferrets require a lot of training to do this?

  • Check out this 100% free site on ferret advice and information sharing feel free to tell your friends

    ferretadventures.webs.com

  • So wat is Ferreting? and is it allowed in USA? cause seems everyone in the videos is from UK or Australia lol

  • Very handy those Detectors huh :). What depth was it giving vs actual depth ? was it pretty accurate ? Spotted Mixy on a site this week , worst case i ever saw, Eyes like golfballs

  • hi, i been looking into geting a couple of ferrets, reading about it online etc. are they happy to live outside in cages all year round or would we need a shed?

also, are there rules with hunting rabbit, seasions etc?

i dont know where to ask these questions so thort ide look here on youtube.

  • cool but might wanna be a little more gentle with your ferrets

just a sugestion to be nice to them

  • I want to learn how to do this. No one the the us knows how to do this.

  • Looks fun but I would give mines alot of love and hardcore training

  • how hard is it to get the ferrets out of the holes?

  • @flamedrag18 sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's not. you can get trackers to put on them but they are expensive. sometimes you have to dig the ferret out and other times you can tempt them out with a dead rabbit if you already have one or if you have another farret you can hold this wear you think the lost ferret is and he'll come on out

  • not usually that hard. They naturally fear of Birds of Prey so if there are any in the area the Ferret may "hide" in the hole.

  • best ferretin vidio iv seen yet nice

  • That was pretty interesting.

  • oi oi

  • what do to with a death rabbit,,,

eat rabbit meat or fur coat or give rabbit meat to dog

  • you won't to get smaller ferrets and feed them before you go out so they don't lay up in the burys like that not a great way to do things but at least your having ago

  • how you get your ferrets back are they smart enough to train to come back or what???

  • wow. This actually looks like fun.

  • i got a ferret i love it ferreting is fun i dont kill them i sell them to ppl who has lurchers and greyhounds?

  • gordie boy u are clueles

  • if u wana learn how to do this - how do u erm. get ur ferret to come back? or w.e

  • nice ground for ferreting

  • loved the video but just wanted to know do the rabbits bite at all when handled ??

  • yep rabbits can bite and ye it is sore lol

  • happen my old man knew a thing or two about ferreting, and he said 'there's those that ferret and there's what we call diggers round here'

  • nice video mate, i think ferreting is one of the most fun and effective way controloing rabbits down a hole , i use a jill to run the warren through and then let the hob have a mooch about cos they dont miss much , good work

  • I'm thinking of getting into ferreting, do badgers pose problems or does it take a complete numpty to mistake the holes.

  • I don't quite think a badger would fit down a rabbit hole! If you ment the otherway round then i would'nt put a ferret down a hole that looks like badger sett.

  • wot ferrets were they?

  • did he snap the rabbits neck....that was epic.

  • umm so ferreting is basicly using ferrets as baits?

  • No, the ferret is a predator and the rabbits run from them into the the purse nets that cover the holes, so the ferret is used to flush them not bait them(rabbits being herbivores and all that)

  • if u werent so noisy u wouldnt probably need to dig the ferret the rabbit new u was on top of the hole

  • it looks like you got your dog trained well. do you ever put him up your own ass?

  • wtf?

  • Wow, your ferrets are very healthy...What are you feeding them?

  • how do u train the ferrets??

  • just get some pipes and run the ferrets through there and get them use to you grabbing them and picking them up also handle them often so they don't bite but its just instinct for a ferret to go down a hole, but don't feed them rabbits ive never fed mines rabbits and have neber had a problem with them staying down the warren.

  • nice vid, but them new locators are crap all flashing n doing nothing, much prefere the old clicker box, but thats just me lol im older, 45 now n still at it so aint doing so bad., keep the vids up good work, big john.

  • Yeah, I got on fine with my old Deben until my daughter dropped it in the river! The latest model is better than the early ones, the gain dial makes it easier to home in on the precise spot.

  • u could keep a lurcher in that ferret box

  • awsome

  • nice one lads

  • leave his hat alone :)

  • nice hat!

  • good to see a couple of m8s enjoing a bit of ferreting

  • Ah, an expert, we are honoured. Since you are so knowledgeable, you will know that the rabbit was cornered in a blind hole, hence the need to dig. And that all the other exits were covered by nets, and other members of the party were watching them. And we had a very enjoyable day doing it our way, thanks very much. You my friend are welcome to do it any way you wish.

  • @jamesmarchington Ha ha ha!

  • that vid is shit u dont have to be so loud walkin over the warren and shut up, thats why u had to dig up and that other person should be looking at the other holes incase the rabbit breaks free from ferret what a bunch of amatures that dont know how to ferret

  • don't comment until you know what you are talking about. i think they know what they are doing as he is the editor of an excellent shooting magazine that often contains a ferreting article. so shut up.

  • I would never do that with my ferret.

  • No one's forcing you. But I bet he'd enjoy it!

  • why not, the only reason you have ferrets is because they were domesticated to hunt rabbits.

  • im trying to convince my mam for a ferret to hunt while my dad goes shooting for pink footed gese but i dont know the basics of it can someone please tell me about ferreting and how do you knoew you dont net all the holes????

  • Sometimes you miss a hole in the undergrowth, and a rabbit gets away, that's the way it goes. Helps if you can stand by with gun or dog in case one slips out.

  • I can honestly say I have never seen a ferret as fat and unhealthy as that in my life...

  • Still, the owner is a good looking chap, eh?!

  • well done mate you do it the way i do and i am ferreting all the time and with gun and ferret keep it up we will sort them rabbits out

  • So many experts telling us how we're getting it wrong. Let's see your videos then guys?!

  • dig for ferrets?? are u mad?? we used 16week old ferrets to succesfully catch rabbits with no harness, just well trained, wistle they come back! simple!!

  • how do you train your ferrets to come on whistle?

  • sammypmaan: most people wouldnt work a ferret till it was almost a year, 16 weeks is way to young and stinks of bullshit mate, if a bunny was to kick your ferret at that age you can pretty much guarantee a dead ferret, you dig when they have caught not when you cant find them, christ who would put such an ignorant post on what looks like a pretty professional ferreting video. if you dont dig down to a lay up that means you are leaving a corpse behind, what a waste. retard. cracking vid.

  • first of all mate, you need to put those ferrets on a diet. they are way to fat... secondly you need to dispatch your rabbits quicker than that, preferably in the net or atleast the second you untangle it from the net. I also wouldnt advise you letting someone who doesnt know the ropes dig to your ferret for the first time. if he doesnt know what hes doing he could break through and cut the ferret right in half :o

  • See above re fat ferrets. You can't break the rabbit's neck properly in the net, so you have to get it out. And for Sten's benefit I wanted to explain what I was doing, normally I'd be quicker than that. Maybe it's not clear, but I was supervising the digging v closely - I value my ferrets!

  • hey man, that was a great posting! very informative and well put together. i had a basic idea of what it is all about but now i know a lot more. super. thanks jm.

  • What happens to the Ferrets after you catch the rabbits?

  • They generally just come back up, and you pick them up and put them back in the box. Sometimes they stay down the hole and you have to dig for them - that's why they're wearing the little radio collars, so you can tell where to dig.

  • But isn't there a chance you can seriously injure the ferret by accidentally chopping into him and seriously injuring it.

  • You'd think so, but so long as you push the spade in carefully, and feel for the 'give' as you reach the burrow, you can avoid that danger.

  • i wonder what if the ferrets don't wanna get out of the hold ??? how you gonna get them back ??? buy a dog ? to hunt a ferrets ???

  • ferretin is ma favourite hobby well after rattin and shooting

  • Lovely set of videos you've got on here mate! I'm dying to get out ferreting for the first time, i only hunt with air rifles at the moment! I'm very very jealous.

    Keep up the good work.

  • A good "hands on" instructional clip.

As far as I'm concerned any one who has done any ferreting will know this and would not make stupid remarks about the narrative and obvious "do not's"

  • wat are u feeding the ferrts there so fat and dont say thats cos ther hobs iv a jill and a hob and my hob isnt as fat as urs and i can cach more then two and in only 12

  • At that time they were on James Wellbeloved. They do put on a bit of weight in the winter, and I don't put them on too strict a diet because I believe they need some fat when they're living outdoors in sub-zero temperatures.

  • some ferrets are fat some arent, i have a jill thats bigger than my first hob and two hobs, one is chunky but not fat, and the other is skinny as a rake, they get fed the same food... doesnt really matter if they are a bit fat, might just have a huge coat, one of mine gets a huge winter coat makes it look three times the size.

  • Good job lads, well worked, and it shows ferreting can be stressful with all that digging. Don't listen to all that critism, you got rabbits in the end didn't you?

  • Hi all, and thanks for the comments. Yes, too much talking and smoking - this was not a pro pest control operation, more introducing a novice to the sport. It's interesting to hear the different views on number of ferrets to use. I find you need 2 or more to cover a bury of any size, or the rabbits give the ferret the runaround. And as for laying up - what a load of rubbish! If my ferrets kill, they move on; it's when they trap one down a blind alley they don't give up easy!

  • James this video is really a poor way to show people how to ferret one your talking while laying net's etc i have always been taught not to talk etc i have also never dug a ferret out a hole a ferret that lay's up after a kill is no good to me as the chap below said a good ferret kill's then moves on i do have collers but do not use them i have never took a spade with me either not much ferreting was done this day by the look's of it

    Regards

    wildfowler-2007

  • to much noise 2 ferrets in that burrow?less noise you wouldnt spend half the day digging

  • i was always told to use 1 ferret as 2 trap rabbits down a hole and kill the rabbits, then you have to dig them out? im lucky as ive not had to dig 1 out yet lol

  • one ferret can trap a rabbit just as easily in a stopend lad. would you work one ferret on a hundred holer? i wouldnt i would work about six

  • yea i dont like to work my ferrets in big warrens i usually just work them in 10 holes or less.

  • fair play to you, they way i see it, no number of rabbits are worth one good working ferret, i prefer the smaller warrens for loads of reasons, mainly its quicker takes alot less time for the ferret to find and flush, but also cos its near impossible to lose a ferret, even without a locator, as long as you arent alone you will see it when it shows. but then there is a huge amount of satisfaction to be had from working a huge warren and taking home a big bag, provided you can carry it.

  • You casn still flush quite a few rabbits out of a small warren or if you think you have rabbited out that warren find another small one because like you said no amount of rabbits are worth a good workin ferret i ferreted a large warren one day ill never do it again.

  • but then, saying that, i worked a short hedgerow a few months back and we lost one, not the greatest ferret and she wouldnt have been bred from or anything but she just pissed off, dunno how we could really have lost her, four of us would have seen her popo out anywhere along the bank, which was only bout thirty yards long, so not huge. and we have all worked big ones and lost nothing, so in alot of ways it comes down to the ferret, a good one will show eventually and a bad one will bugger off.

  • The ferret may have caught a rabbit down there or found a litter of kittens and had a feed then decided to sleep, my grandfather use to smoke his ferrets out and my mate reckons if you leave the box there overnight and you go back the next morning the ferret will be in it.

  • fuck smoking them out, they need there nose to find the bunnies, but yes i have seen the leaving the ferret box out thing, first or second time i went ferreting, was with an old bloke, sound enough guy, ferret laid up and we left the box there with a few rabbit guts in there, came back at the end of the day and there it was curled up with a full belly. best thing is to have a locator, that way you can just dig down to them, if they are good ferrets they will stay nearby and come out of your dig.

  • brilliant mate

    i love ferreting to

i had 10 in 1 day with my mate

but we had to big out about 6 ft

    :)

  • Top Ferrets you got thier m8 i love the noise when them rabbits start thumping about under ground

"Born to hunt fuck the ban"

  • COOL, I wanna go with a ferreting trip once..

  • I can say that if they were making that much noise with me it would be the first and last time they came...Although smoking isn't that big a deal unless there are very strong winds since it's pretty much dead air below ground. Also never had to dig a ferret out and I dont use a collar/transmitter either. A good ferret will make a kill and move on.

KILL THE RABBIT IN THE NET!

I do have to say though that it is the best method out of the net - we use HH so no nets and yeah thats what I do

  • i have broken a few nets trying to kill a rabbit in the net, i try and avoid doing it, much easyer to kill it out of the net.

  • Well a fair number of people share your opinion and I'm sure a few for that same reason but I have to say I've seen more nets wrecked by trying to wrestle a live rabbit from a net and ending up ripping or tangling beyond repair (especially those ridiculous nylon nets)

  • i dont know why they are still made tbh, weak as fuck and easier to tangle than a hippies pubes... i have always found it hard not to kill them in the net, becuase its quicker and you dont have to deal with the kicking any more, but just last week i destroyed a net trying to break bug's neck...beyond repair.

  • chap that polecat on the heid for killing in,then ther would be no digging.

  • you dont seem to know what your doing talking and smoking at the burrows im amazed one bolted at all.The idea of useing ferrets is to let the ferret do the work.Iworked with ferrets a long time and never had to dig one out. Also kill the rabbit in the net by pushing up under the chin this is instant and makes it easier to remove the rabbit from the net and cuts down on stress

  • Ive worked ferrets all my life, and i agree with u about the smoking around the holes etc..and the way they are just chatting away, but come on to tell me u have never had to dig one out??lol

  • u are shit at it, wait till i put some of my videos up, ill show u how to go on, 2-3 rabbits, lol, ill show u all how to work ferrets properly none of this shit.

  • LOL, good to see u chatting away just above the hole, bet u dont get many rabbits bolting do u?

  • Is this more effective than shooting?

  • thats how to do it, well done, nice vid and no messing. thanks for posting

    check mine out.

  • great vid, very humane!!!
