  • I simply love how the irish pronounce "bottle" :)

  • Gaelic Storm - Johnny Jump Up.

    Same tune, another great song.

    Thanks, Dubliner85 for the uploads!

  • i think he say im a young married man and im tired of me life for latley im married and nailing your wife haha

  • @rubberduckchild

"I'm a young married man and I'm tired of life

For years I've been married to a poor sickly wife She does nothin' all day but to sit there and sigh Wishin' and prayin' that she-ee could die"

    (Google is your friend...)

  • @BoudiccaBlanc "I'm a young married man and I'm tired of my life

For lately I married an ailing young wife

She does nothing all day, only sit down and sigh

Saying I wish to the Lord that I only could die" good try though haha

  • @rubberduckchild ...You quoted the Dubliner's version which is correct for this video.

I quoted the song from the Newfoundland version (which is the original) This group, with Harry Chapin, does a nice version of the original lyrics:

Great Big Sea - Cod Liver Oil

    /watch?v=JE_USYfnwao

Doctor "De Jongh's" Cod Liver Oil is the correct spelling for the product

  • @BoudiccaBlanc yeah i quoted the Dubliner's version, cause that's what I'm watching. My original post was about what it sounds like the guy in the dubliner's sang so of course i would look up the dubliner's version, why would you look up another version while watching the dubliner's version lol, i understand where you're coming from but don't correct me unless you're looking at the same version

  • i love this song cus im a newfondlander

  • @jacobmoore1234 Imma labrador and i love it too

  • @jacobmoore1234

Cod LIver Oil (Ryan's Fancy - group from Newfoundland)

    wtv-zone. com/ phyrst/ audio/ nfld/ 06/ oil2. htm

  • I love folk, the funny thing is I work in holland and barrott and we sell cod liver oil perhaps this should be our theme song :P

  • @Kobalos

Google: "Doctor De Jongh's Cod Liver Oil"

  • The Best version out there is from a Newfoundland band called Fine Crowd!! Give it a listen!

  • Yes, this song was written back in the 1930s by the brilliant Johnny Burke from St John's, Newfoundland.

Burke was a famous balladeer who also wrote great songs like "Excursion Around the Bay", "The Night Paddy Murphy Died", "Never Been There Before" among many others.

  • England use to own Newfoundland but the origins there are from all over

  • Lets not forget Canada

  • Fuckin brilliant. Scots-Irish america represent !

  • This isn't an American song, it's from Newfoundland, and the Dubliners were, if their name wasn't hint enough, Irish.

  • Great lyrics!

  • I love this song!

  • Reminds me of my childhood in newfoundland!

  • why !! new foundland is in canada aint it

  • yes, thats where i grew up

  • what would the dubliners have to do with newfoundland??

  • They don't but the song is an old Newfoundland song.

  • are you irish canadian?? because i was looking up newfoundland and it said that a lot of irish settled there and still have a lot of irish traditions

  • there are a good deal of irish and scotts in nfld, but this song has also been redone by the popular nfld band Great Big Sea

  • i was looking up Newfoundland its no wonder the irish settle there because it looks just like Éire

  • @Irishfianna

On Newfoundland's Southern Shore area the residents are nearly 100% of Irish descent. The accents there are very Irish and have been for generations.

I've lived in Newfoundland for most of my 62 years.

  • @punchion

very true, one of my professors in College was from Newfoundland and I thought he was from Limerick.

  • Actually, it's origins are in England

  • i kinda forgot this song ,, but its good to hear it again ,, brings back good memories

  • My mom used to sing this so me when I was little--I was kinda shocked to learn it's a real song! ^.^ But yay, I piece of me mam to listen to whenever...!

  • do you know where i can get this? i'm always listenin to the dubs when i'm wanderin around

  • Lovely tune. I notice it shares melody with "Johnny Jump Up", does anybody know which came first?

  • Ronnie does a nice job.....nice Newfoundland tune!

  • Good old Newfoundland song. Well done!!

  • sorry but no its not a Newfoundland song sir

  • Well sorry to correct ya there, but it is indeed a song from Newfoundland. Check your history first. It was written by Johnny Burke, a famous song writer from St. John's born around 1850. Cheers!!

  • Thank you, I stand corrected. I apologize to you sir

  • witch one was singing??

  • That's Ronnie Drew singing. Not sounding as gravelly as usual.

  • Lol, if there is one voice that's instantly recognizable it's Ronnie's, therefore I think aceofhicks should listen to the Dubs a bit more;)

  • True, but I thought yer man mightn't be Irish, so I let him off.

  • will do

  • sing this in music class

  • Never heard it b4.. great to c it. tanx for posting
