Changing to Ken Stott was a masterstroke. He's perfect for the roll, in the same way David Jason was perfect for Frost. But why do they deviate so much from the details in the books????
I've just discovered Rankin/Rebus and whilst i'm reading i kind of imagine a mixture of Stott/Hannah. Not sure whether to watch TV adaptations or not, might spoil my books!
@StTudno I prefer the books. His flat is how I imagined it though. I watched one episode just to see how they'd done it. Enjoyed it, but wasn't hooked, unlike the books.
Hannah just didnt have the look or the age behind him for me, though I must admit he made up for it in weariness and played superbly against type. Stott just seems more Rebus-like to me. Its just a shame they truncated the books into these adaptations often so unfairly.
@destructivedandy, on the DVD, Ian Rankin says he thought Hannah was ok, because the adaptations were of the young(er) Rebus, who should be roughly about the same age.
He seemed more Rebusesque, and less like a grumpy old man than Ken Stott too, which I thought was nice. Stott acts nothing like Rebus should- Hannah's internal monologues were pretty good, I thought.
I don't know, they opened with Black and Blue which was what, book 8? Stott ended with Knotts and Crosses, book 1-a dismal adaptation though. I liked the monologues too, very noirish. I still prefer Stott, he just seems like Rebus to me, in as much as he has that Ian Stewart (Rebus' source) air about him, but I do think he wasnt always well served by the material in the adaptations
ken stott is far better than john hannah that played rebus, ken stott is fantastic at playing that role, i just hope that they make more rebus episodes.
We've been renting the tv series and find it engrossing. Stott is perfect in the role. Love the dingy Edinburgh settings, like we are there. Great books, wonderful series. Thanks for uploading!
Thansk for posting. I love Ken Stott's work - he's one of the best actors Scotland has produced and deserves every bit of success he has now. Thanks for posting.
Good theme tune - cannot find it anywhere.....does anyone know what its called?

I think John Hannah was better , but siobhan with ken stott has better character/sense than the siobhan in season 1.

Some are good, largely thanks to Stott and Price as Rebus and Shiv, but the books are far far superior. Read the books, then watch the series

I doubt any Rebus books fans will ever really be pleased by a screen adaptation. But this comes very very close.

@destructivedandy I thought it was terrible, and I love the books. John Hannah did a better job.

The TV-series is bull compared to the books. Ken Stott is good but is´nt Claire Price far to cute to play Siobhan?....Ha....Ha

I can live with Ken Stott as Rebus, he does fit the picture but the screenplay is bollocks big time. Where is the real Rebus?

Not saying Ken Scott isn't an awesome actor...but when I read Rankin's stuff I don't imagine Rebus like him...I imagine him....well....different :P

Ken Stott is Gordon Brown , and so is Rebus....odd similarities. Both alcoholic truth-seekers, mutually doomed by cynical self-hate.
