Mojo: Not only do I appreciate this as a great instructional video, but I also appreciate the sentiment. I'm a rookie 'picker' and started singing Karaoke at a friends VFW show. I did this song (and Toby Keiths "American Soldier") there and WOW did they appreciate it. Now I'm going to learn to play it so I can do it live instead of Karaoke. I'm totally stoked! Thanks for putting this Video out there for us!
Hey man, I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, I'm in the U.S. Army. Picked a guitar up TODAY for the very first time. I have been watching alot of your videos and can safely say that I have the very begining of Folsom Prison blues down. Just none of the rest of the song haha. Any song suggestions for a rookie?
With capo on 4th fret. The picking pattern I use is hold G chord; pick 6,2,3,4 strings. Then D; pick 4,1,2,3. Then EM; pick 6,2,3,4. Then C; pick 5,2,3,4. Continue picking in this way throughout entire song. But I like to strum the chorus and I use a basic DUUD strum
Im leaning this from you in response to our Canadian soldiers comming home in boxes every week. My father also served. Heres to our freedom and thank you for the lesson!
Great Job, I have a cousin in the Airforce, two friends in the army, and I cant wait to be able to play this. Im just beginning to learn all the chords and try to get good enough to play that song all the way through.
could u explain the strumming and the finger picking pattern, i understood all the video i just cant get the rytm, could u explain it pliz how many ups and downs im a bit confuse, thanks.
Thank you so much for the song. I too was touched by this song. I come from a military family. I have several aunts uncles and cousins that have gone through the experience.
I myself have joined the Marines. This is probably the most meaningful song I've learned to date. Thank you.
Once my camera's batteries charge, I'm gonna record me playing this song. I'll probably have it uploaded tonight, so check it out if you're interested in seeing how well you're lesson works. ^_^
It doesnt matter how much its in the news -- never get used to hearing news like that --- thanks to all our military --- and you did a beautiful job on this .....thank you
Thanks for your kind words and for what you do. I am glad if I can be of any assistance to our men and women in uniform, however indirect that may be :)

Hi Mojo. This is obviously an emotional piece for you to play and I salute your honesty. Thanks for all these lessons. One request, can you give a quick explanation of the strumming patterns and/or picking sequences in the lessons. Keep up the good work.
Just wanted to thank you not only for the tutorial but also the story along with it. You truly tapped into the heart of the song. It is appreciated.
