  • Did anyone else cry when the Nurse told the Doctor the Brigadier passed away in last nights episode? I did.

  • Oh see, all the aliens disliked it...

But too bad they're all dead, heehee!

  • One of my favourite scenes from this episode, made me feel nostalgic!, the clips, the music!

  • @DoctorWho1983.

Thanks for the comment. To be honest, JN-T had quite a thing about flashbacks, starting subtly but then going a tad OTT. He started with Baker's regeneration, then the Cyber-scope in Earthshock. Mawdryn followed of course, followed by the multiple clips in Resurrection of the Daleks. Davison's regeneration was all original stuff so doesn't count!!! He started visiting the shows past more blatantly after that!

  • @KastriaAnimations

Dude you're right! When he's hanging in logopolis, flashback, earthshock when the cybermen are like "I know that object!" , and ROTD when their trying to replicate him and now that I think about it more Day of the Daleks with pertwee has a flashback

  • I love the responds to the brigadier. This was probably one of the only stories in Doc Who to actually do a past clip montage. Mawdryn Undead remains one of my favorite stories in the entire series, Awesome plot, twists, music.....It really went deeper into the Brig's character, which I think is his best performance as the brig. The only real bummer about it was Turlough.....what a tool....I honestly preferred Adric....but it was funny to see him cry and whine and act like a bitch. RIP Nicky boy

  • @DoctorWho1983 Yea I love Mawdryn Undead as well, it has always been an underrated story in the entire Dr who series granted it's not perfect but it is still a brilliant and one of my favorite Peter Davison story and this scene where the Brigadier remembers is probably one of my favorite if not my favorite secene from this story.

I know I will probably get some hate for this but I actually like Turlough thought I think he improves after The Black Guardian Trilogy but overall I like him.

  • Best scene ever love the music and loved the brigadier rip nicolas Courtney

  • shame hes gone nooo he was a legend ! :'(

  • Rip A Doctor Who Legend! Doctor Who Will Never Be The Same

  • RIP Nicholas Courtney, the world of UNIT's Doctor Who is a lesser place without you. We can be cheered by this little clip show from the series, it shows the best of you at work and I can't think of a better way to remember you by. I just hope they give you two proper funerals, one for the great actor you were and the other for the millitery man you portrayed. Let's hope the new commander's of UNIT learn from your example! "Chap with the wings, five rounds rapid." Cheers!

  • RIP Nicholas Courtney

  • I love this, one of the first bits of video I ever digitised, about 20 years ago

  • R.I.P Brigadier aka Nicholas Courtney.

  • "Five rounds rapid!!!!" Sleep well old chap!!

  • RIP Nicholas Courtney.

    RIP Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart.

    Brigadier will be remembered.

  • "We shall miss him terribly" - Tom Baker.

Indeed. The Brig is as much a part of the show as jelly babies, the sonic screwdriver and the Daleks.

"Chap with wings there. Five rounds rapid." The best Brig line of all.

  • ONE OF THE CHARACTERS THAT MADE ME A WHO FAN IN THE 70S. R.I.P. NICHOLAS. MEMORIES OF MY CHILDHOOD ARE A LITTLE SADDER AT YOUR PASSING. A GENTLE MAN AND A TRUE GENTLEMAN.

  • RIP.

We will miss a splendid man and wonderful actor.

  • All worthy comments in memory of this great man.

  • R.I.P Nicholas. Epic man.

  • rip nicholas

  • RiP Nicolas Coutney. You were one of the most endearing characters in DW.

  • RIP Nick Courtney, a British TV icon

  • I'm so gutted about his death, yet clips like this bring a smile to my face as it's such a happy part of my childhood.

    RIP Nicholas Courtney

  • RIP Nicholas, you were and always will be, a legendary actor.

  • Nicholas Courtney has just passed away, let's all have a moments silence in honour of the great man

  • the brig rules ok.

  • Great scene, that.

  • jo grant will return in sarah jane adventures 4 too lol

  • its a shame that the 5th doctor didnt get more episodes with the brig, i dnno if its just me but i think they work realy well together and compliment each others charcters well :)

  • Joe grant sould come back too

  • @Southblaine shes going to be in the sarah jane adventures

  • @Southblaine please no. All she did was run and scream

  • He needs to make a cameo with the 11th doctor and maybe sarha jane and k-9 could be in it aswell.

  • Gives me goose bumps. :)

  • Peter Davison was so underrated as the Doctor.

  • I was delighted to see they'd partly redone the flashback for Mawdryn Undead, they altered some of the clips and added the Master in as well.

  • I always thought this was a haunting scene!

    mechanicalcuriosities . com

  • Utterly beautiful & fab!

  • I think Troughton's shot is also from his appearance in The Three Doctors.

  • @3rdDoctor Yeah it is 3 doctors

  • So the flashback scenes come from Three Doctors, The Web Of Fear, The Invasion, not sure about the second Doctor, The Claws Of Axos, Day of The Daleks, Spearhead From Space, The Three Doctors again, Robot, Terror Of The Zygons (twice) and Three Doctors again. Does anyone know about the shot of the second Doctor?

  • Yes it from the Three Doctors. Specifically the scene where he has set up the TV and says (roughly), "I just set this up and now I won't be able to confuse it!"

  • the shot of the second Doctor was from The Three Doctors

  • Let's see, the flashback consist of Yeti, a Cyberman, the Second Doctor, Axons (?), a Dalek, the Third Doctor, the First Doctor, Robot, a Zygon and the Fourth Doctor... I would have liked to have seen some of the companions as well...

  • I wonder how the Brig's reaction is going to be like when he encounters Torchwood. And is stunned and confused that U.N.I.T. was and wasn't the original Task Force in containing alien threat and hording alien memorabilias of course. Realising that it never existed because now of the 10th Doctor's encounter with Queen Victoria in Scotland which inspired the creation of the backward orginization of Torchwood.

  • as for UNIT, Brigadier has shown his disgust and resentment on how UNIT is handling things seen recently in an episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures

  • It very well might have existed in his day, but was classified from UNIT eyes, as UNIT was an international organization & Torchwood was formed to further British Imperial interests. These days with Torchwood's mandate changing under Captain Jack Harkness they're running into each other more, but that wasn't the original point.

  • They're like the FBI and the CIA.

  • This was one of the highlight and Magic Moment in Doctor Who history! Gets you excited if you are a hardcore Who fan. Even though it was not explained it was cool to see the Brigadier reminisce all the Doctors and the threats. I watched Mawdryn Undead because of this scene!

  • absolutely! I get goosebumps; it was beautifully done, with the music echoing the theme music and having some sort of military air to it

  • are there any plans for a DVD release of mawdryn undead. i would love to see this one seen as the brig comes back.

battlefield is out on DVD next year though....

  • "The Black Guardian Trilogy" is rumoured to be coming out on dvd later this year.

  • I wish Nick Courtney had met Colin Baker during his run, the Brig would have straightened him out and made a Doctor of him. Colin was ok tho.

  • It hadn't occurred to me, but yeah, you're right. Colin was the only classic Doctor not to have had an encounter with the Brig... at least, not until that awful 30th anniversary 3D fiasco.

Nick even appeared in a Hartnell episode, although it was a different character, in Dalek Masterplan... I suppose it could be possible that Bret Vyon is a distant descendant of the Lethbridge-Stewart clan ;)

  • I read in Doctor Who magazine that Bret Vyon could be a future-space-clone of the Brig. Because if you cold clone him, you would.

  • The Producers should definitely work the Brigadier into a new episode. I can imagine him turning up and recognising The Doctor regardless of his appearance. They'd both be pleased to see each other , but L-S wouldn't give much away other than a raised eyebrow - if that. His absolute disdain for whatever monster was trying to destroy the Earth and his 'stifff upper lip' attitude whilst all around were fleeing in panic always made me laugh.

  • He was featured in an episode of sarah jane smith adventures (the same actor who played him in the old days to,which i thought was really nice of them to do) but, if he was to meet the doctor..i can't help but imagine the doctor remarking about how much the brigadiers aged since they last met. XD but yeah,i do agree. They should bring him in to do a DW episode.

  • The Brigadier should come back in the new series

  • he is in sja

  • Yeah, that was really nice.

  • Someone should remake this scene in the style of the new series; like the Master remembers in Utopia.

  • Everyone's copies of this video always show wear and tear on this particular scene in episode two.. I know I'm always watching this scene of the serial more than any other!

  • Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

  • "Someone just walked over my grave." Wonderful. I adored this flash back back in 1983. Today in 2008 it still makes me tingle. Thanks.
