hold how was the guy able to push the clutch in by hand? how is it meant to appy any pressure? Even on my 1.6L engine I can push one of the 12 or so fingers in with all my strength
@gummel82 same principle, but just more of. Drag clutches are on solid hubs, made out of titanium, and monster huge. Also, top fuel dragsters have no transmission to speak of. well one speed anyways, but they just slip the clutch all the way down the strip. Back to your question, yes, more or less.
@astrialkil Partly to reduce inertia as other people told you, but aluminium is also much easier to machine so they can do it faster, their cutting tools last longer, and everything ends up costing less. Also, aluminium is cheaper than good quality stainless steel - though it's not as strong. Titanium is more expensive than st. steel but then it's also stronger (and lighter).
JUST beautiful

The red lock tight is considered PERMANENT strength.
websuspect 3 months ago
@websuspect no its not PERMANTNT but it is VERY strong. you have to break it loose with heat most of the time.

Why so many light weight materials? Why not just steel?
astrialkil 4 months ago
@astrialkil because reducing rotational mass is more important than saving money in this application
FourG6397GST 2 months ago
@astrialkil less rotating mass. this means that the motor can rev up faster during acceleration.
