  • I used to love this as a child. What the hell was wrong with me? ;)

  • Try getting an Englishman to do the words over, it would have worked better., Nice try though.

  • 'Be just like your dabbling father when it seems tradition !!! pmsl

  • ISSO QUE E MUSICA DE ALTA QUALIDADE, NA EPOCA EU ERA CRIANÇA E AS NOVELAS EM DESTAQUE ERAM A SELVA DE PEDRA E CAVALO DE AÇO. ESSA MUSICA TOCAVA TODOS OS DIAS NA RADIO ATALAIA DE BH.

  • I can't believe this was 1972. Those synth hooks are soooooo ahead of their time!!!

  • Wow! I used to have this! I remember buying a weekly pop magazine at the time & this record was free inside. What was interesting was that the 45rpm single inside was a paper thin piece of bendable plastic which was decent audio quality considered.

Wish I had it now as I'm sure it'd be worth a bit!

By the way, G.Moroder on the credits is the guy who was instrumental (pardon the pun) in Donna Summer's early career playing synthesiser on 'I Feel Love'.

  • Seem so long ago.. maybe it was, but is still good

  • can someone please help me to find the midi version for this song?, with thanks Patrick

  • DEDICADA A MI AMIGO JOSÉ "EL GUERRA", ES MUY BONITA ESTA CANCIÓN Y DIGNA DEL RECUERDO.-

  • I'm 15 and can't get enough of this song... Is that normal?

The keyboard at the start making those dooo dood oood odood that melody is just unbeatable!

  • @TheClimaxity If you like it , then it is good music. :)

  • @TheClimaxity It's fine! I'm a bit older than you, but as a young lad I used to listen to my dad's ''Island Music'' cassette on my walkman, and this was one the tracks on it. Timeless!

  • @0091paddy Yeah, this music is unbeatable. It's amazing if i'm being honest, the weird thing is that i'm into all the new modern music (Not Mainstream), I can't get enough of all the old songs including this one... I also can't get enough of the band "Sweet" :)

  • Whats great about this is that many of those old ancient keyboard would only play one or two notes at a time, which made it impossible to play complete chords without either using multiple machines or overdubbing. that being said, these old sounds are still cool and sound better than some of todays modern sythisizers.

  • @patrick9648 :Yeah, I want one!

  • Is that Weston Super Mare?

  • 1,15 Shitty translation - its "Plastic bag"

  • @krakenwave - Actually I think it's suppose to be Plastic Wrap

  • @TJB63

How could he be "in a plastic wrap"? He pronounces it bahg but I reckon bag it is.

Lots of other niggling little translation issues throughout the song but wtf

  • This is still Owaow :)

  • This is still Owaow :)

  • remember the Bside of this. "pride comes before the fall" got more plays from my dad than the A side he says..

  • are you sure all these lyrics are correct?

Either there are mistypes or the guy has a serious speech impediment on some words ie 2:10 - 2:20 , 1:05- 1:10 preformpacked are you sure? he doesnt sound like he says that. it doesnt matter just interesting.

    Love the song, always have

  • Esto es musica, y estos son los musicos que la componen, feten

  • los mejores de su epoca

  • I love the instrumental beginning piece of this great song of the past.

It puts most of todays songs to shame!! :))

  • This was the first hit using a synthesister and was produced by Georgio Moroder. Moroder also did the theme music to "Midnight Express" and "Call Me" by Blondie. He also produced a lot of Donna Summer's early hits.

  • The second record I ever bought at the age of 9.

  • Ohhh Rodney Rodney!

  • Another fawcking 70s classic , That could knock the spots of any Simon cowell mass produced modern crap ...

    Stylaphone an all

  • giorgio moroder isn,t it . nice memory and a start of his big career.

  • The keyboard part (1:22 - 1:50) was used as opening jingle for a popular Polish sports TV programme in the 70s and 80s.

  • MY UNCLE IS IN THIS!!!!

  • The 1971 Minimoog, this and the ARP Odyssey dominated the early to mid seventies synth market.

  • this heap of crap got me into electronic music and synthesizers.... and how many thousands of pounds have i spent on instrumenst etc?? LOL

  • I have excellent memories of cruising in the car to this song with one of my best friends and her grandma.

  • Giorgio Moroder is the father of all the hits for Chicory tip.

  • I'm 16, and i love this music :D

  • This Track is garbage......room 101 with the lot of them!

  • Hey this was on Polish Sport TV in the 70 till 80

  • another classic from the 70's love the keyboard

  • its not just a keyboard its an extreemley rare Moog MuSonics minimoog analog synthesizer produced for a short while in 1972. Brilliant bits of kit if anyone wants to find and buy me one i'd be really happy!!!

  • I think it was also played in Finish TV in start of one program, years and years.

  • Just wondering, did Polish TV ever paid a single dime to Chicory Tip for using their song...

  • heh, I don't think so... ;]

  • this was No 1 in the charts the day i was born - 20th Feb 1972!!!!!

  • Lembra ?

É da nossa época ! Bubu

  • Love it , but they must be taking the piss!

  • Fantastic.....I loved this when it was released....and still do. Has anyone else noticed that the written words don't match the sung words at about 0.46!!!!

  • Beefheart also filmed on the beach, Cannes I think.

  • The words are so true - jeez, it all seemed so 'nice' then...

  • I'm born in 1959 and this song takes me back down memory lane! It feels like yesterday when I was in my room, playing this song on my cassette recorder, 13 years old! Those were the days!

  • This song was what to be the beginning stages of what was to become known as New Wave music and later known as Synthpop.Chicory Tip were the first 70's group to use synthesizers in the early 70s.

  • Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Kluster and about half of the rest of the German kraut-rock scene were using synthesizers before Chicory Tip ever released this.

  • Chicory were singing back in 1972 about : Yes I am a son of my father. Very classical and then I was never listening and thinking about the very difficult lyrics....I was not bothering anyway, I was so proud about this new style of music, and it was! Thank you pecuscap : Great and amazing!

  • To think they had music of this kind in those primitive days! hats off to chicory whereever he is

  • Boy does this make me miss my youth...

  • Huge No 1 song in South Africa when I was little. It's a staple tune and can still be heard played in pubs, parties and other venues. A truly timeless pop classic.

  • All together now...."Sooooon of the my fatheeeeer....moolin' I was foolin' I was free from drafts....."

What....you mean thats NOT the lyrics???

  • Not even close to Moroder's lyrics but who cares. Most of his of his songs you can't even make out what he's saying.

  • This song was of historic importance. Chicory Tip's version was the first electronica #1 hit anywhere in the world; it also established Giorgio Moroder as an internationally acclaimed songwriter. Giorgio's version would chart in the USA, peaking at #46 in summer 1972.

Left the wrong path and separated from the past

  • Mama said to me we gotta have your life run right

Off you got to school where you can learn the rules there right

Be just like your dabbling father when it seems tradition

Never go astray and stay an honest lovin' son

    Son of my father

Moulded, I was folded, I was free from draft

    Son of my father

Commanded, I was branded in a plastic vac'

Surrounded and confounded by statistic facts
