He was a regular guest on Parkinson in the70's, one of the funniest and most cultured of men. Had the privelige of seeing him play in the Olympia Dublin many years ago. RIP George.
George did perform this song live on a show called MELLY AND MILLIGAN with Spike Milligan reading excerpts from his books and playing jazz trumpet. First time I ever saw him and I was instantly hooked - bought NUTS LP shortly afterwards. I could kick myself for never seeing him live! Read any of his books - especially RUM, BUM AND CONCERTINA about his Navy days and OWNING UP about singing in the Mick Mulligan Magnolia Jazz band. They had groupies in those days to.
For a population of less than 500,000 people. no george melly, beatles, john peel (merseyside), and over a 50 significant bands from the bunnymen to artic monkeys,
My dad has a blues DVD collection, compliments of Martin Scorcese. It's called "Red, White, and Blues." It's got JeffBeck, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Steve Winwood, Tom Jones, Lulu, Van Morrison, these phenominal artists. I love watching it. =) That's how I got to hearing of George Melly. He was commenting on Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Rosetta Tharpe, now, there's a singer who put the "Cat amongst the Pigeons" another beautifuly voiced singer! The artists you named are all getting a bit long in the tooth, the sad thing is,there's nobody to take there place.Today's music business is a bit like goods we buy for the home, nothing is made to last.
Thanks for the info. I've found one or two references on the web to this deck, which I see is actually a music system with cassette deck and radio as well. Neat.
Bravo George there really was no one quite like you xxx

I have this sung by a woman and have no idea who she is. She also sings "12 inches". Any ideas?

Brilliant! George at the top of his game in the mid 70s. I have this LP 'Nuts' recorded live at Ronnie Scotts and it's one of ny favourite records.
PS That's a really cool record deck. I'd love to know what it is!
