On a side note... when children are born, aren't their footprints recorded? (Not sure if they did this in the 50's). A footprint is unique to a given person, just as a fingerprint is. If possible, now with our more advanced computer technology, maybe we could try to match the footprints above with those of anyone born in the late 40's to early 50's.

They did record foot prints at birth back then.......all the children born in my family had their foot inked and stamped on a birth cert. or some such document......so the answer is yes. however...if its out in a very rural area who knows what hospitals might have done.....everyone in my family was born in a suburban hospital
Something makes we wonder about this; what if he wasn't murdered, per se... He appears to have had surgery before the time of his death (one of the slides refers to two incisions that have healed well). Could it also be that perhaps he died from a disease of some sort (the surgeries being an attempt to save him)? And after he died, maybe his parent(s) for some unknown reason, left him there at the side of the road instead of giving him a funeral? Unusual that he had a hat, blanket, and so on

if there were no any report of missing child and then his parents murdered him but he remains unidentified "boy in the box"...that 's all about his parents .
It's possible that the kid before he died was sick and somebody realized that he'll die very soon; so he or she must have wrapped him in a blanket and gave him the necessities he needed and make his final moments worth something.
I don't think you'll find any info about the killing unless the killer/killers wrote about it in their journal or wrote a confession and someone finds it cleaning out the house.

bambi13242002: there is a website devoted to the whole case, it's been updated as recently as 2010. They were able extract a type of DNA but anything tested came back noninclusive. The case is still a mystery today because they have no leads. no one ever came forward to claim him, there were no missing child reports filed during that time frame that matched his description, and any leads that did match, they were able to look into and close. the whole situation is just heartbreaking.
Point is though in 1957 records of people and dental and in policing were a joke. The fact there was no evidence and no one ever reported him missing messes it up. I read somewhere they are testing for dna. Very likely this will remain a mystery
I don't think he was killed. He looked like he was taken good care of, and his arms were folded. I think he was meant to be buried after dying of something like illness, but the person who was gonna bury him got scared off. If he were killed his body would be in a bag thrown off to the side.

@ZOMGitsSteph According to the America's Unknown Child website, only a tiny swatch of blanket and a small segment of the cardboard box survives. I guess the rest of the blanket and box deteriorated with time. I don't know about the clothing, though. Perhaps you could send an e-mail to the site's owner about that. And I think they were able to get some mitochondrial DNA from the boy's baby teeth but the rest of his remains were already too deteriorated to get anything else.

the scars they were talking about, were they made by someone of a surgions skill level. also the child was circumsized now the only group of people i can think of who do that are jewish so maybe the boy is also jewish unless the surgery was taken before the childs death.

It has to do with hygenic concerns, mostly, and all the circumcision tells is that this boy was a "typical" American boy. Though you're right about the surgical scars having been made by someone in a trained medical capacity who was caring for the child by doing blood transfusions and the like. Though the other scars indicate abuse, sad to say.

My prediction is he was born to a mother who was isolated somewhere and kept the boy in isolation as well. So that's maybe why there was no DNA match as such because the boy may have never seen much of the outside word or had a birth certificate or social security. Probably sick people shunned by society gave birth and then took away his life. That's one of the many infinite possibilities.

On a side note... when children are born, aren't their footprints recorded? (Not sure if they did this in the 50's). A footprint is unique to a given person, just as a fingerprint is. If possible, now with our more advanced computer technology, maybe we could try to match the footprints above with those of anyone born in the late 40's to early 50's.

They did record foot prints at birth back then.......all the children born in my family had their foot inked and stamped on a birth cert. or some such document......so the answer is yes. however...if its out in a very rural area who knows what hospitals might have done.....everyone in my family was born in a suburban hospital

Something makes we wonder about this; what if he wasn't murdered, per se... He appears to have had surgery before the time of his death (one of the slides refers to two incisions that have healed well). Could it also be that perhaps he died from a disease of some sort (the surgeries being an attempt to save him)? And after he died, maybe his parent(s) for some unknown reason, left him there at the side of the road instead of giving him a funeral? Unusual that he had a hat, blanket, and so on

It's possible that the kid before he died was sick and somebody realized that he'll die very soon; so he or she must have wrapped him in a blanket and gave him the necessities he needed and make his final moments worth something.

It's widely believed he was murdered by his parents (or caretakers) anyway. Personally I think the Foster theory is the most accurate. The "M" theory has it's merits, but sadly, I think this will be another case that will never be solved. Just too many variables and dead ends

bambi13242002: there is a website devoted to the whole case, it's been updated as recently as 2010. They were able extract a type of DNA but anything tested came back noninclusive. The case is still a mystery today because they have no leads. no one ever came forward to claim him, there were no missing child reports filed during that time frame that matched his description, and any leads that did match, they were able to look into and close. the whole situation is just heartbreaking.

Point is though in 1957 records of people and dental and in policing were a joke. The fact there was no evidence and no one ever reported him missing messes it up. I read somewhere they are testing for dna. Very likely this will remain a mystery

I don't think he was killed. He looked like he was taken good care of, and his arms were folded. I think he was meant to be buried after dying of something like illness, but the person who was gonna bury him got scared off. If he were killed his body would be in a bag thrown off to the side.

@ZOMGitsSteph According to the America's Unknown Child website, only a tiny swatch of blanket and a small segment of the cardboard box survives. I guess the rest of the blanket and box deteriorated with time. I don't know about the clothing, though. Perhaps you could send an e-mail to the site's owner about that. And I think they were able to get some mitochondrial DNA from the boy's baby teeth but the rest of his remains were already too deteriorated to get anything else.

He could've been an illegitimate child kinda swept under the rug and that could be why no one reported him missing, unlike what was done with Steve Damman, a young boy of about the same age whose disappearance was not only reported but heavily publicized. (They thought maybe he was the "Boy in the Box", but the footprints didn't match, nor did x-rays show an old injury Damman sustained.) Or maybe the boy was the product of an illicit affair? Hm.

It has to do with hygenic concerns, mostly, and all the circumcision tells is that this boy was a "typical" American boy. Though you're right about the surgical scars having been made by someone in a trained medical capacity who was caring for the child by doing blood transfusions and the like. Though the other scars indicate abuse, sad to say.

My prediction is he was born to a mother who was isolated somewhere and kept the boy in isolation as well. So that's maybe why there was no DNA match as such because the boy may have never seen much of the outside word or had a birth certificate or social security. Probably sick people shunned by society gave birth and then took away his life. That's one of the many infinite possibilities.

Its possible his own mother did this, she just couldn't stand him , and the mother also made the father get rid of his body, the father was weak and pushed around by his wife, after he dropped his sons body off in the box, he was so distraught he left his hat there.
no matter what, its an inside job, meaning his own caretakers killed him.
HIs own family or whoever was in charge of him because no one reported him missing.

@Dravenswraith I had wondered the same thing.. they said that his appearance proved him to be malnourished.. he was underweight and dehydrated. however, with his surgical scars, he couldn't have always been neglected. someone at one time cared enough to see to it that he was receiving proper medical care... my question is, if some of the scars he had were comparable to that of a transfusion sight, why not pull up EVERY medical record in the country of boys his age who would have had likened

I had to stop the video at least 7 times, its just so sad.
It breaks my heart. Who could have done this to a little boy? And I feel bad that know one knows who he is. Wouldnt his family know he's gone? Wouldnt anyone know he was gone?

with surgical scars like that on the boy, you wonder if the detectives interviews some of the local surgeons if they recognize them. They would at least be able to narrow the list down to a few patients and contact their parents, right?

that breaks my heart tht we dont even know who he is or what family he belongs to there simply wasnt enough evidence and technology then...I know this is crazy but this is a cold case that soulnt go unsolved cuase this is purely sad.

I am sure that they kept every single evidence and still unable find out who this poor boy is. I know somebody knows something about case just like someone knows something about the St. Louis Jane Doe case. His case is almost 30 years older than the St. Louis Jane Doe case. I am surprised that no one has identified this boy yet, and plus this boy is male and he is white. You have to be pretty cold blooded and heartless not to identify this boy!!!!!!!!
