A good salesman would know when a customer is just one of those ( I want to see everything i can't buy guys ) , I've been in gun stores that i asked one question about what caliber a gun is or what's the price and the salesman went into a 30 to 40 min endless rant about something, you think he would take a hint when i said " ok thanks" and start looking at other guns.
I feel so much pride in myself now. I never use slang when referring to weapons. I do however occasionally say clip when I mean magazine. When I realize I correct myself though.
I wouldn't say all of these are slang. More like ignorance on the part of the consumer. I see the same working in the auto parts industry. Half the time people don't know what they even own, much less any specs about it.
jesus just because you are a gun snob does not mean everyone else is.
This is like if a driving instructor hated you for calling the shift lever a knob.
Negligence is a part of business, I install and sell insulation and I have to deal with people assuming that just because there is insulation in their garage that its gonna stay warm in there like insulation produces heat, that insulation is no good without a heat source.
This is just a part of business and its easy to brush off.
Wow the hits keep coming... 'sk vs sks" You're the sales person, its your job to educate and sell remember. I work for Sears and we are always told to never assume the customer knows. customer says " I want this oven, this exact one." "Well sir, you said you only have electric and no acces to gas, so this wornt work, shall we look at something else?" i can only imagine if we treated our customers like the dumbasses you example here.
@alexbekjr As the consumer it is your responsibility to research a firearm before you purchase it. Everything from the legalities of it, to how it operates. You're not buying an appliance from sears here, you are buying a weapon. People that don't know what kind of ammo their gun takes clearly have not made a responsible purchase
@Jrsdrums No you are 100% wrong, in this economy it is the clerks responsibility to politely educate, and not be a dick. Read my comment below about what I mean. I myself am very literate with arms today and have the work to show (builds, reloads, classes, collections etc), but 10 years ago I was a "newbie" ans still remember how I was treated.
Absolutely not cool guys, I have built a Mosin (is Mosy not acceptable for ya) based on your videos and love them. But this is not coold, I remember 10 years ago when I found out about 'guns" and was treated like shit by "know it all" gun store clerks.
i have to say there is a difference between some douche with his hat sideways and pants to the ground asking for ' dat them uzi's?" and some one who doesnt know the difference between a clip or magazine.
Ya know...when you hang out your shingle and put yourself in business serving the general public, you are accepting all the BS that goes along with it. If you resent your customers then maybe you should rethink being in business. Not trying to be a dick - it's just a peeve of mine when business owners talk resentfully about the people who put money in their pockets and food on their tables.
Nothing is more annoying than a know it all gun dealer who throws in insults into ordinarily harmless descriptions by a customer who's about to drop a grand in his store.
If i was treated like that in any-store, I would instantly leave. Everyone who is into firearms knows they started somewhere; you don't have to be an ass, think of when you began interest in firearms.
@DippenMeSomeCope People can at least make the attempt to educate themselves on basic firearm nomenclature before they walk into a gun store and attempt to make a purchase. I doubt there are many people out there who seriously think that "choppa" is an acceptable or interchangeable term for an AK variant. Or that "extendo" comes anywhere close to the proper term of "extended magazine". Maybe people will learn when someone calls them out on their fucking retarded street dialect.

@ForTheEmperorsOwn ...Well, what do ya know.... I had no idea. I looked at Armalite on Wikipedia. I knew Stoner was the guy that designed it but i didn't know he worked for Armalite Thanks of the helpful info.
@1022shooter Because Armalite was one of the first brands to be sold to the civie market. "AR" actually refers to "AR pattern" rifle. Same as "AK" refers to "AK pattern", instead of Saiga, Vepr, and such.
@1022shooter Armalite is a company . the m16 is the military's fully automatic version of the civilians semiautomatic ar-15. did i spoon feed you enough?
@simonwill1 You can remove the internal mag of an SKS very easily and replace it with a detachable magazine. It takes maybe 10 seconds if you know what you're doing and have the necessary parts.
I'm very interested in purchasing my first firearm, I've shot one before but i've never owned one. And I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be cheaper to purchase one online or at the local gun range/shop.
I use to do some gun cleaning and buying for my grandfathers business several years ago, and I'd always dislike the people that came into our shop and demand that we should give them 2,000 dollars for their "all numbers matching" mauser that they bought from mitchell's or a ol' Iver Johson double barrel. Just because its old doesn't mean its worth money. And the people comin in and buying 45 COLT for their 45ACP drove me up the wall too.
For the record, "Assault Rifle" was used half-way commonly as slang during the late 70's and 80's by gun groups and was eventually picked up by the media and used against firearms ownership. That's not to say that everyone was ignorant to the inaccuracy, but it was a convenient blanket term for military look-a-like autoloaders and there are still plenty of old magazines and books from the era displaying this. Now, of course, you risk being stoned by some for using the misnomer.
I was a gun dealer for 8 years, the ones that bugged me were, deuce-deuce ".22lr", shotty "shotgun", clip "magazine" or the most ghetto question ever, "do deez guns got bodies on dem" on the used guns. Or the ghetto thugs would come in wanting AK "bullets" and I would tell them they were out when they were in plain sight because they were too dumb to know the caliber and they would just ignorantly leave, I feel your pain guys. But I miss the game and am thinking on going back to it.
I hate to say it, because I love you guys and all you do, but I cant ever see taking any of my guns to a shop to sell. I would sell it online, then get my local shop to send it for me. I bought a 340dollar gun, then went back a few months later and asked what theyd give me for the trade in, 150 dollars. You will get soaked. Thankfully for the brick and mortar stores, there are alot of dumb asses out there. Ill gladly buy from them, but never sell to them.
@freehling420 You think they never have heard that before. Every guy that thinks they are smart because they could put two and two together has said that to a gun or pawn shop, the reality is the overhead and liability on a gun/pawn shop is so high that they have to make at least double their money and sometimes they lose money and need to compensate it somewhere else. The pawn and gun industry is the most misunderstood in the country. sometimes you win sometimes you lose, it's a gamble.
@fatguyaaron I have nothing against buying low and selling high to make money. After all, thats the basis of much of our economy. But since Im poor, I cant afford to make decisions that cost me 100dollars. I need to be smart, for myself and my family. I with the shops nothing but the best, but I know better.
@freehling420 Poor is a mind set, not a bank statement or the size of your house, rich is a relative statement as well. Being comfortable with your surroundings and wise with your dealings is the key. You have to know how to deal with a pawn shop, It's like a casino with way better odds. You can use it to your advantage, or you can be the average guy who doesn't do his research and gets burned and is mad at everyone but himself. It is the most misunderstood industry ever.
@fatguyaaron It has been in my own experience, that the second you walk out the door with any gun, you will probably get less than half of what you just paid walking back in. Anyone is better off to sell privately or online, and pay an ffl to ship your gun. I have no hate towards those who need to buy low to make a living, I just choose not to sell to them. 40hrs a week/ 20,000year=poor, no matter the mindset. I will sell for me, not the shop im selling to. It doesnt happen, believe me.
@freehling420 Its just not in the shops interest to buy at a price that is even close to what someone pays. Thats how they make a living. There are many folks who have no idea of what things are worth and dont have the means or care to find out. I, on the other hand, know what being had is. It happened once and never will again. Some never learn their lesson because they dont know better or dont have time. I am neither of those.
wow that must be frustrating! You guys seem pretty understanding, but I don't understand the rudness when "I" walk into a gun store and catch shit. I've been shooting since i was a little kid! and before i open my mouth the owners or employees start being jerks.... their loss i suppo$e...
this must be a southern thing because! Here in Utah i've never heard a single one of these "slang" terms! Except for the mix up between .38spc and .380! It sounds like an Ebonics problem!
"why does that one cost more" or the "why is that one better" if your asking the differnce between a norinco and a springfeild thats pretty ignorant but if their honest you can truly tell as in the mattews vs. hoyt but then thats hard for the customer when your looking at $950 vs.$1100 both exellent but they have to know what they need and what their using it for hunting or target? so I can direct them in the right direction. if they dont know why their in the shop you sure as shit cant help em
Listening to this makes me think that the system for getting a gun and a license for it isnt that bad here in Finland. You really gotta know what you want, what to do with it and how to use it before you even get the license. While in some less strict countries you go buy a car and you get an AK-47 on top of it without even knowing any safety rules or anything.
@Catriks not really. you still have to be able to pass the background check to get the gun. and in some states you need a license to get a gun so yeah. you might not be able to get that ak47
It's like that in every industry. I'm a truck driver and a day doesn't go by when somebody doesn't ask me, "Do you have a driver's license?" I've started telling them, "You mean I need a license to do this?"
I don't know a great deal about guns but holy shit, people must be absolutely retarded to go to a gun shop and have no clue what they are talking about.
It also irritates me when a firearms manufacturer advertises the latest and greatest, 2 months before it hits the market. The customer wonders why I dont have it, when they just saw an ad for it.
I sell firearms and get it all the time. The newest one is "Junk". "Look at that junk, its tight". I was also thinking about commenting on "Fo Fi", but you covered it, LOL. I also like it when they see an ad in a magazine or some TV commercial and call up wanting it without researching it. I quote a price and they cant believe how much it costs..... do a little research and you wont be so surprised.
lol, barry you better watch it one of the bros might come in and pop a cap in your azz!!!!!! you guys should watch hardcore pawn, same dumb ass customers!!!!!!!!!!,lol!!!!!keep up the vids!!!
All trucks are Mack trucks. All jets are Learjets. All Russian planes are MiGs. If you let mass media into your mind you deserve to be confused and misled.
According to California an assault weapon is anything with a pistol grip that isn't a pistol. to include a shotgun. Can't wait to live Cali., the weather isn't worth the freedom.
@conman413 They do have hot hot hot women. However, I'd forego the women in exchange for being able to cast my own lead projectiles! I'm happy to be able to smelt all I want
@conman413 Sorry, but that's not entirely accurate. You can get a lot of shotguns and rifles alike with pistol grips. There are way too many things that classify an assault weapon, however. :(
All China made AK variants (AK, AKM, AKS, AK47, etc...). All AR-15 series weapons are banned.
Here's a comprehensive list of weapon characteristics: oag.ca. gov/firearms/regs/genchar2 (remove the space before .gov).
The State of California bans "assault rifles" without really knowing what they actually are. As a result, a lot of guns are banned that are no more dangerous than a semi-auto 22.
Amen to you brother! I hear and see these things all the time! Im a shot gun guy myself and i am always asked why i dont have any hand guns like a 9mm. Well because i like to go to the shotgun range and you cant shoot 9mm!
gotta ask, is the AK-variant that the man on the left was holding a SBR? or is it considered a normal rifle? is seems a bit short but looks can be deceiving.
"The media" is one of my gripes. Who's "the media"? Major television news networks? Local TV? Internet blogs? Radio? All of it? Well nope, it turns out they always mean "any media source of any form which expresses views contrary to my own BUT NOT any media sources whose opinions AGREE with my own."
I agree with your comment on the definition of assault rifles, but "the media" term is just bizarre imo.
Well....I don't think that it is too much to ask to use proper terminology if going in to a gun shop. It isn't rocket science and makes one look a little more respectable.
Sirs, I must genuinely applaud you!!! Now more than ever, I see countless disgruntled gun dealers. You fine gentlemen are the exception to that horrible rule. For that I commend and thank you deeply!!! Keep up the great work!!!
@Mr556M4 you'd be surprised as to how many different use this type of slang. ive seen all cultures and colors say things like this. all theyre trying to say is theres a bunch of gun noobs out there.
I purposley like to act like I don't know about guns just to hear the asshole behind the register jack up prices like I don't know shit. I have my personal favorite gun shops and I leave allot of racist or judgmental gun dealers alone.
The other day I was standing in line at my favorite local gun store, and the guy in front of me asked if they had any clips for his glock 17. The guy working pulled out a paper clip and said here have this for free, then he said next in line please! I laughed so hard!!
The irony: you can tell who knows about firearms and who doesn't by these comments. Also "fo fo" and "choppa" are *cough cough* ethnic terms. And using those words are BAD FOR GUN OWNERS. no wonder the media has a field day when you have stupid people asking for Uzis and m16s. There are tests or licenses for marriage, driving, and other everyday things, but you should have to have them for gun ownership. Someone asking for a "fo fo" is the same father who's child gets accidentally shot bc they
Those of us in the industry and into "guns" hate when others dont understand the "proper" terms, but they could always just bring their business elsewhere too...
Where your gats at? How bout your heaters? Is this an accurate gun? Which is the best? That gun is too big, I want that small one so its not too powerful for me.
We as gun lovers HAVE to take the time to teach/inform & instruct others that areNEW to the orld of guns. We ALL were dumb as a sack of hammers when we first started, you remember too don't cha? Take care & take TIME wit a NEW gun owner!
How can you even be allowed to buy a firearm when you cant tell the differance between a pistol and a revolver. Let alone identify the proper ammunition? Is there no prior training in that state?
@immikeurnot i wish you were right but in many nations they have removed that right like where i live our right in the bill of rights has been overruled by more modern laws
When I go into gun stores, I know exactly what I am looking for, and I ask for it as specifically as I can. (IE "Do you have any 9 x 19 ammo", or "Do you have any Remington R1 magazines") I don't come it and throw nonsensical slang around that causes either dopey counter guys to go "What?" or get stink-eye from the more knowledgeable ones who think you an idiot.
@UCSPanther20 im bad about that to when i need ammunition i ask for it like do you sell any 5.56mm, 223, or 22 long rifle, the gun stores have no issue knowing what im talking about though hehe
I was at Walmart a couple weeks ago, & this Black guy (not to make it a race thing) bought every single 9mm Luger & .357 Sig & Magnum round he could find. With the .357s, the sales lady said, "Which kind?" and he said, "Whatever you have." It made me mad how he knew absolutely nothing & called .357s, "Tre-Fi-Sebums."
you guys think it sucks having the media say u can buy assault rifles in the store? try what we have in canda, sp80's and g22's are illegal cuz the look "scary"
Regardless of how you feel about if a person is allowed to buy an automatic over the counter or not, the US Constitution does state, "..Right to bear arms... this right shall not be infringed.." I doubt we will ever see the day where a person can just buy an automatic over the counter again. Fact is, if these gun control laws are to prevent criminals from purchasing deadly weapons; its clearly not working. I would love to own a .22 Automatic to plink with, that would be loads of fun.
this learning show is great. i am finding out new things more and more. please make more episodes and perhaps review best guns for curring self defense. and home security. thanks blesses. pls check my vidoes
OMG?! You can just walk into to a shop and buy an UZI like that? Even as someone who is pro guns, hunted all their life and avidly wishes gun laws were looser in the UK, even I think thats a bit extreme.
Hunting - Yes
Self defence - Yes
But an uzi? no! If someone burgled my home with my fam in it, I would much prefer something less 'eager'. If i shot the guy with an Uzi, i would rip him, and the what ever he was standing near...apart. Not subtle, and what if he was hold a hostage?
Hand pistol? Realy and your bitching about improper gun slang don't you mean hand gun or just a pistol. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ill gladly buy from them, but never sell to them.
freehling420 2 weeks ago
@freehling420 You think they never have heard that before. Every guy that thinks they are smart because they could put two and two together has said that to a gun or pawn shop, the reality is the overhead and liability on a gun/pawn shop is so high that they have to make at least double their money and sometimes they lose money and need to compensate it somewhere else. The pawn and gun industry is the most misunderstood in the country. sometimes you win sometimes you lose, it's a gamble.
fatguyaaron 2 weeks ago
@fatguyaaron I have nothing against buying low and selling high to make money. After all, thats the basis of much of our economy. But since Im poor, I cant afford to make decisions that cost me 100dollars. I need to be smart, for myself and my family. I with the shops nothing but the best, but I know better.
freehling420 1 week ago
@freehling420 Poor is a mind set, not a bank statement or the size of your house, rich is a relative statement as well. Being comfortable with your surroundings and wise with your dealings is the key. You have to know how to deal with a pawn shop, It's like a casino with way better odds. You can use it to your advantage, or you can be the average guy who doesn't do his research and gets burned and is mad at everyone but himself. It is the most misunderstood industry ever.
fatguyaaron 1 week ago
@fatguyaaron It has been in my own experience, that the second you walk out the door with any gun, you will probably get less than half of what you just paid walking back in. Anyone is better off to sell privately or online, and pay an ffl to ship your gun. I have no hate towards those who need to buy low to make a living, I just choose not to sell to them. 40hrs a week/ 20,000year=poor, no matter the mindset. I will sell for me, not the shop im selling to. It doesnt happen, believe me.
freehling420 1 week ago
@freehling420 Its just not in the shops interest to buy at a price that is even close to what someone pays. Thats how they make a living. There are many folks who have no idea of what things are worth and dont have the means or care to find out. I, on the other hand, know what being had is. It happened once and never will again. Some never learn their lesson because they dont know better or dont have time. I am neither of those.
freehling420 1 week ago
wow that must be frustrating! You guys seem pretty understanding, but I don't understand the rudness when "I" walk into a gun store and catch shit. I've been shooting since i was a little kid! and before i open my mouth the owners or employees start being jerks.... their loss i suppo$e...

Catriks 2 weeks ago
@Catriks not really. you still have to be able to pass the background check to get the gun. and in some states you need a license to get a gun so yeah. you might not be able to get that ak47
goatkiller68 2 weeks ago
It's like that in every industry. I'm a truck driver and a day doesn't go by when somebody doesn't ask me, "Do you have a driver's license?" I've started telling them, "You mean I need a license to do this?"

So long as we're on the topic of annoying slang:
"The media" is one of my gripes. Who's "the media"? Major television news networks? Local TV? Internet blogs? Radio? All of it? Well nope, it turns out they always mean "any media source of any form which expresses views contrary to my own BUT NOT any media sources whose opinions AGREE with my own."
I agree with your comment on the definition of assault rifles, but "the media" term is just bizarre imo.
