The very first incident when two people were charged for spot fixing happened in 1994 when Mark Waugh and Shane warne were found guilty of providing pitch report to a bookie before the start of the match. They were fined 12000 dollars. Pakistanis bowled two no balls, ban for 5 years. ICC the great. ICC did not even take any action on that issue. it was ACB that fined the two cricketers.
Some how Mark Waugh and Shane Warne comes to mind now that Aamer is serving the ban from cricket. Could've been backed and handled better. There's still time though, which is a positive.

Five years is too much...looks like they were afraid of his talent. 3 years would be enough. As a SL cricket fan I think ICC should reduce his sentence to 3 years. And if you are a true cricket fan you too would agree.
I was upset by this as well as an Australian. When I watched Pakistan on tour here I thought they had the makings of a very strong test team for the future if they just got stability, and I thought they had four players to build around who impressed me very much. When you wear that uniform you represent the people and should behave as an embassador for your nation. These people have let the game down, the nation down, themselves down not to mention an all time great like Michael Holding down. A man who clearly loves the game enough to give a damn. Respect!
this is only sport not a matter of life and death if he wants to bowl a no ball he can how can someone be sent to pison for a non violent thing on a cricket pitch it's like jailing a footballer for missing a pen most of the england team would be doing bid in that case jails nothing anyway just a bit boring at times i know from experience
@DAJAZDJ1 You clearly have absolutely no idea at all what you are talking about! Oh well, at least you seem to be in a minority on here who know right from wrong, that cheating in sport is cheating in life, and that good people like Michael Holding, who would have made nothing like the kind of money this set of prigs make, is a truly decent man
@DAJAZDJ1 DOH! Amir, Asif and Butt went to jail for being found guilty of "Conspiracy to cheat at gambling". Defrauding bookmakers is a serious, jailable offence in England. Regardless of what you do professionally. The jail sentences were fair and just.
And poor Malcolm Holding. Everybody attacks the traditionalists of the game, but you can see from Michael Holding how much the game means to him, and how the modern game appears to be eroding it. Much Kudos to him.
These mofos should be beaten with shoes on their arrival in Pakistan, we need to thank the newspaper but its folded. Our public who still support these bastards and traitors also need to be dragged behind pickups with their shalwars taken off. These players should be beaten like the Sialkot brothers, but our people are BAYGHAIRAT, they have no shame and instead defend these piece of human shyts.
Shahid Afridi is the King of spot fixing but very smart to not get caught.
Butt shud rot in hell for leading Asif and esp. Aamer down this road... i'm from Sri Lanka and i'm very happy for the pakistan team doing well again even though we are loosing because of that... PAK cricket has lost so much - their home games, their stars - but they are still one of the most dangerous sides in the world
@rebel27031990 ITS not only 6 months. 6 months is the punishment given by england court, but the 5 year ban from ICC remains. Even after 6 months, he cant play for another remaining 5 years, the ban imposed by the international cricket council.
look at Gower and Hussein smirking at Holdings emotions. They have no respect for him or the game. Holding is so moved that the best young talent in world cricket is tarnished forever, maybe finished, and it saddens him deeply. He is a legend and history will remember him as such. The other two are easily forgettable
That man Holding just loves the game and fast bowling - how passionate must he be, that he is emotional about a guy from another country. The sad thing is, Mohd. Aamer will never realize how many people he let down like this. And yes, despite knowing he might've been dragged into this - he was old enough to discern right from wrong. He (along with those who tempted him sold Pakistan short, sold cricket short .. .
@DeepanjanDatta Even though he is old enough to know better, I think he's young enough that he deserves a 2nd chance once his ban and any potential prison sentence is over. At least he was the only one with the balls to own up and plead guilty.
@jaryd12345 - I agree, by owning up he behaved like a man. He'll get a second change because even after the ban he'd be only 23 odd. But no, I don't think he 'deserves' it, he'd have to 'earn' it like any other honest, talented and hardworking bloke from PAK. If he was old enough to play int'l cricket, he was old enough to know not to let down a proud nation and adoring fans. From his text messages it is clear he knew what he was getting into...
@DeepanjanDatta Yes I don't mean he should just be put straight back into the team once his ban is over, he should be made to start from the ground up in impressing enough to get picked. (Although somehow I think the former willbe the case) But there are some circles saying he should be completely banned for life, which I don't think is appropriate or fair. If he had been involved in fixing the entire result of a match I would say absolutely throw the book at him.
This is why Michael Holding is one of the great sportsmen. Not just for his talent (which was immense) but for how much he cares about the game and individual people in it.
Seeing him reduced to tears for a lad he's probably not even met; when he sees his career coming to an end is a genuinely moving thing.
How can Holding show such passion when Aamir's own countrymen were more than ready to suicide the boy's career for financial gain. Those that did are Mother Fuckers
Just 'cos he's young, it doesn't make it right to be involved in match fixing. It's absolutely the right decision to ban him because it serves as a deterrent to future fixers. How are India or the ICC trying to destroy cricket? That's stupid. If you've committed a mistake, you have to pay the price for it. No sympathies
@imumarafridi how the hell did u reach such a conclusion?Aamir owned up telling he was guilty.Plus aamir was such a talented guy that even we indians would want to see him play.We have never tried or wanted to destroy careers of wasim akram because people like akram and aamir are just a joy to watch, even for an opposition.its just sad you are narrow minded and blame others for the individuals and PCB's ignorance and wrong doing.
@Palazzo Agreed. If the boy is mature enough to play international cricket he should be mature enough to realize what he was doing is wrong. Its not rocket science, match fixing is wrong. Age should never be an excuse for anything, Aamir was probably the best bowler at the time and better than most senior bowlers, while he was just a teenager.
Im in mixed minds, some part of tells me he needs to be punished for cheating but also he is 18 and barely off age and ICC should have only fined him and probably given a much shorter ban like 3-4 months.
All in all it is such a pity they match fix for extra money, don't they know they are letting down their fans, their country when they actually do things on purpose.
I am from India..bloody hell, i really wish somebody would start a campaign to bring aamir back to cricket...ICC should've taken notice of aamir's age and just fined him maybe...this isn't justice..it's so heart-wrenching to see holding feel so much for another human being..coz he knows aamir was destined for greatness. i really really wish his ban is lifted off. take wickets against india also yar, doesn't matter,1 world-class bowler toh dekhegi duniya..it's just a game yar,let it be so.ICCsuck
Yea its obvious those useless senior players salman and asif had brainwashed him.. dont worry aamir u have just 5 years ban ,,, u will b still young till then
PLS "ICC" GIVE HIM A CHANCE HE WILL NOT REPEAT HIS MISTAKE I SAW HIM IN QATAR I MET HIM HE IS REALLY YOUNG KID WHN HE COME OUT HE IS CRYING SO MUCH.SALMAN BUTT PUT HIM IN TROUBLE HOPE HE WILL GO IN PRISON FOR TEN YEARS...
I'm not so gutted for aamir as everyone else. He might be 18 but thats not young, its not like he's a toddler who has to do everything he's told, he would know the difference between right and wrong. That being said i still feel bad for him and its a massive wasted talent. But he knew the possible outcomes when he cheated.

I would hope like all Cricket fans that was a bad day for Cricket. To keep test cricket alive incidents like this cannot happen.
Holding is a purist, and it must have been so very sad to see the game he loves be tarnished.
I was also gutted for Amir. Could have been a breath of fresh air for Cricket in general.......... Pakistani cricket needs to look at itself and wonder how it could have let this happen to such a young player.
Disappointing, he really would've been a Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, once in a lifetime great bowler. He has all the skill for greatness at such a young age. I'm not Pakistani, but geez it really is a waste of a talent.
I don't think people understand the gravity of this. Amir's bowling was very similar to Wasim/Imran type bowling when they had experience (when they were in the top form). For a young, inexperienced boy to be bowling this great, it is a tremendous amount of talent. This man could have been the best bowler produced by Pakistan if he got better. If i was a Pakistani, I would ask for death sentence for Salman Butt for throwing such a find away. No wonder HOlidng is crying, this is a once in life guy
well i am also an indian and i like muhammed amir what a good bowler he is , i heard holding saying that he was got involved in it by some one , well who is this some one well let me guess must be england it self they cant bear any one playing better then them , hope amir comes back one day wish u all the best man
@mohddhamgil123 true, but God knows how many are still involved in match fixing, that includes all the teams of ICC.....the irony is that the ICC anti corruption unit hasn't done anything, which itself is corrupt
Mr Holding you are correct as and when they can not handle the heat they act like faagots and amir is an awesome bowler the english nor the aussies could handle him....just as they could not handle the west indies fast bowling..
He can come back, the lad is that good. Dale steyn was nowhere near as good at the same age Amir got banned. I'm English, but i think amir is as good a bowler I have seen at the age he was when banned and i have watched plenty of cricket over the last 25 years, he can surely come back and play till he is 37-39.
I agree, he was sucked in by idiots, shame on them, he was just a kid.
@DeejayDREAM I guarantee you he will never be back, as unfortunate as that is. He does have age on his side, however the pakistan cricket board is already considered corrupt by many of the international nations, for the sake of reputation alone It is incredibly unlikely that they would ever recall a bowler handed a 5 year ban for spot fixing to the national squad. Sometimes mistakes completely ruin a career, this i'm afraid is one of them.
@DeejayDREAM i'm not saying it's impossible, i'm saying that it's so unlikely it may as well be. shane warne got handed a 12 month ban for substance abuse, it took him 2 years to get back into the australian squad after that, if you recieve a 5 year ban for bringing the game into disrepute then that effect is multiplied, he will most likely retire before he's even considered for selection.
trust me, he will be back. Do you really think pakistani public would allow such a thing? Also, international pressure would rise if he is doing amazing domestically but is not called up, as it is unfair. He has the press/media on his side too and that will definetely do the job if all else fails
well i feel just Holding does, but honestly, Amir digged his own grave.. such a talented bowler, he could have perhaps been the best bowler all time but its just the things r, if u chose to dig your own grave..... He chose to do it
It's such a shame but the ban was right. You have to hand out severe punishments for something so serious. Hopefully no more young lads with fantastic talent will make the same mistake as Amir.
respect for you mr holding i am pakistani and went thru more pain then u did but that motherfucker was also involved if i could ever do anytin i wud kill these three traitors
Amir's bowling was amazing. It was the kind of bowling you would expect from a senior player like Wasim/Waqar. At that young age to be getting that kind of talent is amazing. If he had continued playing he would have got experience and been one of the greatest fast bowlers in the world. I sincerely hope that he keeps his fitness the same on his 5 year ban so he can devastate the world
We want Amir back!!! Whatever happened to giving talents a second chance??? The world cricket needs a bowler like Amir. I am a realist & would definitely support a lesser punishment but I feel for this bowler. He's too good to be wasted.
To Hell with News of the world hacking people's phones and doing silly sting operations. At least they have gone to the abbys where they belong. For Amir we love you waiting for your return is killing us. 5 years is too much but we will wait.
I am an Indian, but boy was this really depressing. Such prodigious talent and ability to be forfeited for a few dollars. Never has been so much talent been lost to so many for so few. Mr. Holding is bereaved for a fellow quickie if not for the game of cricket...
Exactly he is great talented young baller and I think some one drag him to this position because they can not face to this baller, I AM not a paki or indian.
i feel more for Micheal Holding, true cricket lover - no bias... hurts me to see Amir get tangled into this disgusting spot fixing crap and he is to be blamed for what he did. If he has no respect for his own honour and dignity then atleast think of the team and your country u fool
he is a fast bowler and i am sure he remember his young age when he sees a good fast bowler. i think ICC did not do justice on the cricket world as well. ICC could've soften atleast his punishment and let the cricket world enjoy this telent. if i was a batsman i would've even enjoyed getting out in the hand of such a talent.
from one fast bowler to another, this is how growing up and achieving so much can mean to someone. and holding has realised that this is a talent gone wasted...
Such a shame it looked like he was gonna become even better than wasim and waqar but whats done is done he can still be great when he comes back at the age of 23 but i dont think hell break any records like most wickets... and again as i said at the start such a shame someone as good as him wont be playing the game...cricket is going through transition phase right now and it looked like this young talent will make it a better game to watch again but as always corruption has eaten cricket again.
So sad for this young to have his career destroyed by these book makers. he needed advisors to tell him stay away away from bookmakers dont even talk to them. I didnt feel sorry for the other 2 elder players but for the young man its so very sad
oh god just breaks my heart he was special and everyone knew it...i hope he never gets back in the team for defiling the sport i love and bringing a tear to the whispiring death :'(
People dont realise that over 90% of all players are involved in match fixing and spot fixing. Aamer was sacrificed in front of the media, thats the only difference
@sonofthedestroyer typical pakistan mentality right there thats why where in all this shit...south africa gets rape case every 4 minutes does that make rape any less of a horrible crime in south africa? If your a cheat well your a cheat if your neighbours a cheat and gets away with it well thats life. The guy does sujda after 5 wicket halls he wears pakistan emblem on his heart it doesnt matter wether other people are doing it. He is face of PAK and dishonoured us. Simple.
Inshallah Amir will come back stronger and will hopefully show us what he can do..... it is tru whenever Pakistan come to England they are always accused of something, lyk b4 we cme and they were accused of ball tampering and this tym Amir wos seen as a threat to england and they removed him from the frame!!!

Sir Michael holding understands it.. he said someone dragged him into this .. yes sir i believe the same and its so sad in cricket world ... wish icc do its job .. instead being puppet in hands of india ... crickes its ours not only india's property
that fucking magazine has come to an end, thanx GOD they too faced the muzik of the NATURE.
they destroyed the carriers of many of whom m most concerned about Cricket,I would love to see this young man again playing in national team but als I couldn't wait for five years,I pray for some maricle.
Its a shame when someone as great as Michael Holding Breakdowns on National TV. He probably saw more talent and potential in MD. Amir, for him to throw it all away for a few dollars.
well ok he was brainwashed well why didnt he plead guilty and come out with the truth he would have been ok ,cos he;s one cheating lying retard i like him a lot more than anyone after the good old days of shoaib akhtar had that kinda air about his bowling maybe waseem but then,he thought i got 20 crores in the bank already its not as if my life is going to end,let me be loyal to my cheating friends salman n asif and see how things go,well in the end its just divine justice and serves him right:)
@atd87atd87 Are you an idiot? Seriously? Hes 18, hes a man. He's the one who cheated, why should we feel sorry for him or his family. Holding doesn't understand its a culture within Pakistani cricket. This sort of thing has been happening for decades. Thank god its out now.
@saifrizwan it is not match fixing it is to fix a certain point in the match. I think they have done it for money or under pressure by the captain or some mafia.God knows better
WHATS SO MIRACLE ABOUT THAT ..PATHETIC NORMAL BALL ...NO WONDER ...THEY TAKE MONEY FOR SPOT FIXING ...U GUYZ MAKE VIDEOS LIKE THIS GIVE TITLES LIKE THIS ..AND MAKE THEM THE KING OF THE WORLD ..THEN THEY GIVE U THIS IN RESULT .....ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC .......
its called empathy ..a very rare human trait these days

PAK cricket has lost so much - their home games, their stars - but they are still one of the most dangerous sides in the world

look at Gower and Hussein smirking at Holdings emotions. They have no respect for him or the game. Holding is so moved that the best young talent in world cricket is tarnished forever, maybe finished, and it saddens him deeply. He is a legend and history will remember him as such. The other two are easily forgettable

sad the best bowler in the world cannot bowl right now
gthotshot 3 months ago
That man Holding just loves the game and fast bowling - how passionate must he be, that he is emotional about a guy from another country. The sad thing is, Mohd. Aamer will never realize how many people he let down like this. And yes, despite knowing he might've been dragged into this - he was old enough to discern right from wrong. He (along with those who tempted him sold Pakistan short, sold cricket short .. .
DeepanjanDatta 3 months ago 5
@DeepanjanDatta Even though he is old enough to know better, I think he's young enough that he deserves a 2nd chance once his ban and any potential prison sentence is over. At least he was the only one with the balls to own up and plead guilty.
jaryd12345 3 months ago
@jaryd12345 - I agree, by owning up he behaved like a man. He'll get a second change because even after the ban he'd be only 23 odd. But no, I don't think he 'deserves' it, he'd have to 'earn' it like any other honest, talented and hardworking bloke from PAK. If he was old enough to play int'l cricket, he was old enough to know not to let down a proud nation and adoring fans. From his text messages it is clear he knew what he was getting into...
DeepanjanDatta 3 months ago
@DeepanjanDatta Yes I don't mean he should just be put straight back into the team once his ban is over, he should be made to start from the ground up in impressing enough to get picked. (Although somehow I think the former willbe the case) But there are some circles saying he should be completely banned for life, which I don't think is appropriate or fair. If he had been involved in fixing the entire result of a match I would say absolutely throw the book at him.
jaryd12345 3 months ago
David Gower said to Micheal Holding: " you give us a moment off to get control on your emotions "
This means, Micheal Holding had already got tears in eyes and yes he was crying for Aamir.
BEALogic1 3 months ago 3
This is why Michael Holding is one of the great sportsmen. Not just for his talent (which was immense) but for how much he cares about the game and individual people in it.
Seeing him reduced to tears for a lad he's probably not even met; when he sees his career coming to an end is a genuinely moving thing.
He loves this game.
MrTactless42 3 months ago 90
How can Holding show such passion when Aamir's own countrymen were more than ready to suicide the boy's career for financial gain. Those that did are Mother Fuckers

Just 'cos he's young, it doesn't make it right to be involved in match fixing. It's absolutely the right decision to ban him because it serves as a deterrent to future fixers. How are India or the ICC trying to destroy cricket? That's stupid. If you've committed a mistake, you have to pay the price for it. No sympathies

Age is no excuse for cheating.
Palazzo 4 months ago
@Palazzo Agreed. If the boy is mature enough to play international cricket he should be mature enough to realize what he was doing is wrong. Its not rocket science, match fixing is wrong. Age should never be an excuse for anything, Aamir was probably the best bowler at the time and better than most senior bowlers, while he was just a teenager.
1212yuvi 4 months ago
Im in mixed minds, some part of tells me he needs to be punished for cheating but also he is 18 and barely off age and ICC should have only fined him and probably given a much shorter ban like 3-4 months.
All in all it is such a pity they match fix for extra money, don't they know they are letting down their fans, their country when they actually do things on purpose.
TheGarr123 4 months ago
I am from India..bloody hell, i really wish somebody would start a campaign to bring aamir back to cricket...ICC should've taken notice of aamir's age and just fined him maybe...this isn't justice..it's so heart-wrenching to see holding feel so much for another human being..coz he knows aamir was destined for greatness. i really really wish his ban is lifted off. take wickets against india also yar, doesn't matter,1 world-class bowler toh dekhegi duniya..it's just a game yar,let it be so.ICCsuck

Camelsarse 4 months ago

No wonder HOlidng is crying, this is a once in life guy

jammy9575 5 months ago 2
@mohddhamgil123 true, but God knows how many are still involved in match fixing, that includes all the teams of ICC.....the irony is that the ICC anti corruption unit hasn't done anything, which itself is corrupt
nabeelm82 5 months ago
Mr Holding you are correct as and when they can not handle the heat they act like faagots and amir is an awesome bowler the english nor the aussies could handle him....just as they could not handle the west indies fast bowling..

life can be hard but never give up ...i advise amir the same thing..
aqibali9 5 months ago
He can come back, the lad is that good. Dale steyn was nowhere near as good at the same age Amir got banned. I'm English, but i think amir is as good a bowler I have seen at the age he was when banned and i have watched plenty of cricket over the last 25 years, he can surely come back and play till he is 37-39.
I agree, he was sucked in by idiots, shame on them, he was just a kid.
DeejayDREAM 5 months ago 5
@DeejayDREAM I guarantee you he will never be back, as unfortunate as that is. He does have age on his side, however the pakistan cricket board is already considered corrupt by many of the international nations, for the sake of reputation alone It is incredibly unlikely that they would ever recall a bowler handed a 5 year ban for spot fixing to the national squad. Sometimes mistakes completely ruin a career, this i'm afraid is one of them.
conkel29692 5 months ago
@conkel29692 maybe but a 5 year ban is urrm a 5 year ban, he could well come back.
DeejayDREAM 5 months ago
@DeejayDREAM i'm not saying it's impossible, i'm saying that it's so unlikely it may as well be. shane warne got handed a 12 month ban for substance abuse, it took him 2 years to get back into the australian squad after that, if you recieve a 5 year ban for bringing the game into disrepute then that effect is multiplied, he will most likely retire before he's even considered for selection.
conkel29692 5 months ago
@conkel29692
trust me, he will be back. Do you really think pakistani public would allow such a thing? Also, international pressure would rise if he is doing amazing domestically but is not called up, as it is unfair. He has the press/media on his side too and that will definetely do the job if all else fails
jacobsjohnie 5 months ago

Amir's bowling was amazing. It was the kind of bowling you would expect from a senior player like Wasim/Waqar. At that young age to be getting that kind of talent is amazing. If he had continued playing he would have got experience and been one of the greatest fast bowlers in the world. I sincerely hope that he keeps his fitness the same on his 5 year ban so he can devastate the world
cyrushanleone 5 months ago 3

he is a fast bowler and i am sure he remember his young age when he sees a good fast bowler. i think ICC did not do justice on the cricket world as well.
