its a good base model at the moment, but i find that if i render something during its pre stages thgat i lose focus of what it is im trying to achieve. If you stop rendering with such lighting so renders take a lot less time and focus on modelling the rest it will be done a lot sooner :-)
Thanks, that's a great suggestion. :) I get distracted sometimes by my renderings and making them look nice. The problem is I'm trying to texture everything now...it's a bad habit I got into that I'm trying to get out of. I'll still try to post progress videos though, even if it's just a simple gray texture. ;)
No no do not stop altogether, migth i recommend taking screenshtos or single frame renders and the possibly compilin them and then uploading to youtube? If your model is not textured, its easier to see any errors in lighting or incidents such as the black flickering on a certain part of the ship. Also, are you using layers? If not, use them and then hide/unhide the ship. Break it down as much as you can.
As this is my first model, I'm still learning about 3ds max and I haven't quite mastered the art of modeling yet - I've heard about layers but I'm not sure how to use them, although they would be AMAZINGLY beneficial in my case (just the funnels alone slow down render times and FPS rates tremendously). I'll definitely look into using them.
Excellent. Thanks so much! Any ideas on how to model Titanic's hull? Haha ... that's where I'm suffering the most right now, I just can't figure it out for the Titanic.
Unfortunately, no, it's only to help me understand the structure of the ship so it's really more of a personal learning project.
There is however an interesting Titanic project going on with a game called Crysis (I think) which looks extremely promising, so that might be something to look into. And of course there's always Ship Simulator.
Yes :( I've been wondering how to fix that. I think it finally resolved itself after I moved some stuff around, but I noticed that after I rendered the video and I didn't feel like rerendering it haha.
i fixed it by deleting all the faces which are doing strange and then use the bridge tool in edge mode and close them again and make sure no face is crossing another ;)

Will this model be used in any computer game or mod?

I can help point out innacuracies if you need help getting it juuuuust right.
I can be as brutal and honest as you want me to! If you want, I can point out innacuracies down to rivets, especially with exterior!
