  • Tony Bennett has always been fantastico, but I think he looks and sounds better TODAY

than he did way back when.

  • wow hes almost as good as justin beiber

  • @cmillerfb Good question. Tony Bennett's was earlier in 1967, Stevie Wonder in Oct 1968. But the song was first written for Babara McNair in 1967 under Motown label, but wasn't successful. Stevie's was uptempo whereas Tony and Babara's were slow. It was also recorded by numerous artists, incl The Temptations, Jack Soo etc. (Source: Google, of course)

  • AWESOME

  • I second that.

NO one sings this song like Tony Bennett. It's like him flirting with his beloved one, in a very chirruping way

  • NO one sings this song like Tony Bennett! AMAZING!

  • A Beautiful song sung by the master, all class all Talent ,first class performance and a very nice man.

  • People commenting on how he looks, think about it, it wouldn't be right if he looked different with that voice. It's like Sinatra Having Bobby Darin's voice, or Andy Williams having Wayne Newtons. It would be unnatural.

  • Who was first on this song, Wonder, Bennett or niether? Sorry if its a dumb question.

  • Master. No one like you.

  • My father used to sing this song i would give my left arm just to hear him sing it one more time norman richko i miss you Natalie

  • The voice, the words, the music, and the emotions they evoke are far more important than the way the singer looks. Come on people, this is MUSIC not modeling! LISTEN to it, don't pick it apart over silly and unimportant matters. Who cares what the person looks like, in or out of music, it is the person, not the face that matters!

  • Tony is coming to Saratoga, California on Sept 25, 2011. I am going!

  • Anyone under 50 does not "get" Tony Bennett until they just shut the hell up. And listen to him. then they love him too.

  • Whadda guy!! Da best!

  • fuckin legend

  • "For Once In My Life" I wish my friends about the age of 16 would still isten this and all of the other teens This is true music people!

  • Happy Birthday Tony!

  • a true gentleman

  • I'm 19 now, but in my house my mum was a radio DJ and my pops a rhodie, so our house was always filled with music from all walks of life. It isn't until hearing music like this that I realized how lucky I truely was to hear this as a child. I lost my virginity to Dark Side of the Moon, graduated to Dean Martin. And at my funeral they will close my final curtains to Sinatra's "My Way". Long live great music, the polls do not dictate music, your hearts do. Cheers.

  • @whiterobin Why don't these 'market majority' polls ever include us? *sigh* ... I think it's more than that. The music industry PR spin machine can now dictate to the 'market majority' what is cool and what is 'quality'....once the buzz is started, the bandwagon follows, with individuals afraid of being the uncool one that doesn't agree with the majority. But the kids that search the archives seem to like the quality stuff...that's what I did when I was a kid.

  • An icon !! And not just San Francisco since it's gone to hell with the liberal bastion and gay community. We need to turn it around and make it a city for everyone. I may even move back sometime after the rift raft and Governor Brown and Barbara Boxer are removed.

  • @Nutriloc1 Perhaps you're unaware, but Tony Bennett is a liberal. Just saw him last night in San Francisco, a city that he loves. Please, don't return to San Francisco. We don't need you.

  • One of the sexiest songs ever, sung by the Master himself. Started out slow and steady, like foreplay and leading to orgasm at the end.

  • pure quality

  • If you notice the body language throughout the whole number he goes from being closed off and withdrawn to boisterous and outgoing! AMAZING!!!!

  • My Grama always loved too hear Tony bennett, and she was write, hes soo cool, awesome song, and I like the way he sings it,awesome channel

  • love when tony hits the big notes at the end

  • It's unfortunate that around this time his career began to slag, though he still had his fans, it wouldn't be until his comeback in the 80s and 90s that his career reached its zenith. Funny how people associate this song with S. Wonder. This song had been performed many times before it was a hit by other famous artists, including Bennett. Great rendition!

  • How can you not love this??!!! It's a classic!

  • I wouldn't say F frank, but frank considered tony the best saloon singer in the busineess

  • jeez! his singing.... almost as beautiful as a woman. certainly gives me a similar shiver through the gut & spine to hear ...

  • Fuck Frank. Tony is the king

  • Listento to my asian rendition of For Once in My Life in my Channel. Thanks.

  • when he could sing... he could really sing. an original.

  • he was great but nobody sing this song like ella fitzgerald

  • he was great but nobody sing this song like ella fitzgerald

  • Barnabas Collins sing

  • These are the guys who taught us all how to sing. Terrific! Thanks for posting.

  • see himin person soonattha peabody.

  • Tony Bennett's version of this song goes right to the heart of those of us who've lost at love, but found the one who reciprocates unconditional love; that love which comes along once in a lifetime.

  • @daddybug101..... Ella Fitzgerald in concert Berlin 1968 part 3

  • amazing!

    magnificent!

    terrific!

    great!

    rare!

    a gene in a million.

  • Amy I love you.I will do anything to spend the rest of my life with you.Baby we will make it.believe in me.FAA US

Love you Forever and a day=)

  • Simply incredible!!!!

  • Tony Bennett is truly a magnificent performer!

  • Ah.. the voice of love and gentleness by a great singer is for me the best of the best. Being of Italian descent - I know Italians love love to the max and want to make that have to express it in art, and music

  • man I love this stuff,....what is it with these vocalist of Mediterranean descent?....I mean is it just a more developed voice box, or is it just that "old world style" that they know how to work so well

  • @purpleskycalm Times back then were better my friend..

  • @gaastra12 .....you said that right and it may be the crux of what America afforded to those who had greatness and how I miss those days....take care my friend

  • @purpleskycalm Thanks yeah you take care too. Times today are just more rough, less simple and society is all generic and cheap, with no class at all anymore. And that includes for the music, because all genres went straight downhill after 2000 sadly.

  • @gaastra12 Amen to that...Kinda stopped listening to the garbage from nowadays. Its nice to see some singers are singing the old time classics though.Sex sells...even though some pretty ladies with great voices dont really need it.still they dress up like cheap hookers -.- a shame really.

  • you guys want to hear pure magic? watch him duet with Stevie Wonder on this song

    its pretty amazing

  • Ron Miller and Orlando Murden....thank you for writing this masterpiece and giving it to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Paul Williams and of course Tony Bennett.

  • COMPLETELY AMAZING!!! What a LEGEND.

  • A Great American. A great song. This is what the USA is all about. You won't get this anywhere, but USA. Home grown. The best of the best!

  • Mr B makes it look effortless! Best version I've heard. Bravo!

  • his phrasing is so perfect

  • Now this is music!! unlike alot of todays rubbish!!!!!!

  • awsome! sinatra also has a great version

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Tony Bennett's version of this song is really good... Touching... :)

  • The comsumate professional and the best version ever. And he is just as good today.

  • WOW great version.. !!! music well never be the same like this!! :-(

I WANT THE OLD DAYS BACK!!!

  • Best version of this is right here!!

  • i grew up with this song,my oldman would "sing" this often, when drunk! lol now im getting older....soooooo,,,,,its back to this song again! lol

    love and light.

    kev UK

  • Please note: This song was written by Stevie Wonder. Nice version Tony!!!

  • @HunterMann, i think was wiritten by Ronald Norman Miller for Stevie Wonder...

  • Tony is one of the greatist singers.Thank you.

  • He is one great singer thank you.

  • He is one great singer

  • tony bennet has an amazing voice thats for sure, although i find comparing him withfrank and others futile as they all offer great singing and unbelievable talent, check out sinatra singing "if you are but a dream" its fantastic!

  • Tony Bennett a true legend! I love his rendition of this great song...Bravo Tony! -Kenny

  • The only male singer I put on par with Tony is Dean Martin. Both are excellent!

  • I love this song, the way it starts slow and soft and works it's way to its climax. It's TB's signature song!

  • Tony served in WWII Europe if I'm not mistaken. Wonderful guy. Love the way this song ends.

  • Frank is my kind of trip, but Tony ..ouu yeaaa

  • you know it´s live because he makes a mistake

  • I sat at the Latin Casino and watched. That was Rt 70 in NJ. Oh Well.

  • The best voice ever...

  • its so great , he is an legende !! in a world like now , its good to look at this !!

  • Yes, I agree Tony Bennett is in League

    by himself.

Listen to him carry those notes, after notes.

    OMG !

    God Blessed him.

    Love,

    Teri

  • Now, THIS is music. :)

  • Uno dei piu' grandi interpreti...che dire di piu'...tutt'oggi fantastico!!! Grazie Mr Bennet

  • Tony Bennet has a wonderful voice, and I don't agree at all that he's ugly! He's not mr. Universe of course but he's got charisma, look at him now at the age of 83 (I think), he looks very charming! But that's not what's important, his voice is one of the best voices I've ever heard!

  • His looks got better with age to me

  • I agree

  • He was up late partying with Frank, Dean, and Elvis.

  • @theLearner I was gonna say the same thing! lol

  • @theLearner i think he looks better here...the pre hairpiece moment.

  • @theLearner you probably have no idea that he was a ww2 infantryman who invaded Normandy on D-day.tony was hardcore.

  • @Mathew1985AZ

    wow, had no idea!

  • @theLearner tony is an american hero

  • @theLearner I know, I tell people "he grew into his nose" sounds stupid but that's what made him better to me.

  • Joke is on you kid. People that care more about a singer's looks than their pipes have ruined the industry.

  • Couldn't have said it better man. How many no-talent over-engineered techno-pop untalented girls are going to be produced in the coming decades? There's a reason Timberlake is the only member of NSynch to have a career: he's the only one that had talent. Wish I could say the same for the Disney factory of Spears, Simpson, Duff, Cyrus....ugh. I'll take Tony any day.

  • @jclint Dont matter what you look like, if you can sing like this you will have women melting. Looks cant do that.

  • @jclint

    video killed the radio star.

  • @jclint glad to see your comment of "truth" smile! phyllis....

  • @jclint Well said, and sadly ruining society.

  • @jclint 1/2 true. His looks didn't bring me to like Tony. However yes my generation sucks at deciding true talent. I think we're just saying, the older he gets, the more attractive he gets which was unusually pleasant :)

  • Ele era muiiiito feeeeioooo!

  • One more time ... It's Chairman of the Board" not "Chairman of the boored" or "Bored" or "Bord" .. haha .. Hey,great tune any way and a terrific treatment by Bennett.

  • Sinatra said Tony was the BEST and who are we to argue with the Chairman of the BORD?

  • I love them both! Any motion?

  • good voice but ugly as sin!

  • Don't judge, that Ye may not judge u.

  • Agh! He's so sexy! Lol...

  • Two things:

    1. Brilliant song sung by a legend

    2. God bless all the Motown writing teams

  • wow do i love tony. absolutely amazing...

  • he is like a white nat king cole

  • Superbe. Je suis jeune mais je danse sur ce rêve.

  • HE IS THE VERY BEST!!

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing.

  • Strepitosso!!!!!!

  • Anybody thinks he looks like a goblin?

  • I dont look at him , I'm listening to him...a rare kinda of voice...soothing and entertaining........too bad i will never have the chance to see this singer in person...but my appreciation exists and will stay as long as i know how to admire music !!!

  • you know i was thinking more along the lines of the count from sesame street. ha ha ha

  • Wow what a voice!!!!!

  • The greatest singer of all times by far.

  • wow, he was not pretty, love the voice though

  • he was the one who inspired me to sing.check out gypwin

  • Frank Sinatra is quoted as saying that Tony Bennett is /was the best of all the 'crooners'.

    He weren't wrong.............

  • you go tony! awesome.

  • He is coming to Brazil !! Wohoooo !! \o/

  • what about his shirt and bow tie... thats the important thing here... his tailor should be shot.

  • They are tailored to match his ears....

  • God he is amazing. honestly.

  • tony bennett is da man! wohoo!

  • all right yeaaaaa, italian american like me, all the talent of USA is foregin

  • U must be kidding ..sinatra was his teacher

  • Wrong. Sinatra was nobody's "teacher" .

  • His voice just flows! Peace

  • Neither.

  • who wrote this song first? stevie wonder or tony bennet?

  • tony bennet

stevie just did a cover of it

  • "For Once in My Life" is a pop song written by Ron Miller and Orlando Murden for Motown Records' Jobete publishing company in 1967 (see 1967 in music). The composition was originally recorded by Jean DuShon, while other artists such as Tony Bennett and The Temptations recorded slow-ballad versions of the song.

The most familiar and successful version of "For Once in My Life" is an uptempo hit version by Stevie Wonder

  • He makes a mistake with the lyrics at 1.26,but like the pro he is,recovers and carry's on.

  • Such an incredibly classy song, it is stunning.

  • what a classic song ,and a classic vision

  • tb owns :)

  • i didnt knw much about american classics.. i heard ths song first time in new season of Entourage.... ths is awesome song... The perfect song for love....

  • lol he looks exactly the same now

  • This song is awesome...

We had Tony's version on vinyl.

Scratches, skips and all we played it and i love it till this day.

    Thanks for posting.

  • song was written by Stevie Wonder and btw......Sinatra idolized Tony.....TB rocks

  • stevie didn't write this song, I like his version the best though, it's so jumpy ^^ but this one is good too.

  • it was Bennett who idolized Sinatra. Sinatra

loved his and many others voices, but if he

idolized anyone it was Bing Crosby.

when Sinatra saw Bing he knew he wanted to be

a singer.the same thing happened when Benedetto saw Sinatra. Tonys a great singer

but Sinatra is arguably the greatest entertainer who evey lived.

  • sinatra considered bennett his favorite singer.

  • and Luciano Pavarotti

  • April 1965- LIFE MAGAZINE- For my money TONY BENNETT is the greatest singer . He gets across what the composer had in mind effortlessly! Sinatra wrote that and who are we to argue with him? Sorrry but you are very wrong! TONY is the GREATEST of all! Sinatra was very good but hardly had a voince like Tony's!

  • WRONG! Tony admired Bing and musicians like Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker. While Sinatra copied Bing and Russ colombo, Tony copied no other singer. He learned to use his voice like an instrument.

Sinatra said Tony was the BEST and who are we to argue with the Chairman of the BORED?

  • wrong and wrong. Stevie didn't write this song and Sinatra didn't idolize Tony. Like the other guy said, Tony admired Frank and Frank admired Bing.

Next time think before you write.

  • Look at his head.

  • Tony had a great hit with this song! It was awesome! He is awesome! He is singing it here live and in person! Not many can hit those notes! He is one of a kind!

  • God he is amazing. honestly.

  • I love this version, but you should really check out the version by Paul Williams of the Temptations as well - it sends chills up my spine.

  • What a STUPID comment. You need to wash your mind with soap. How old are you? Twelve? Grow up.

  • Okay, so who wrote this song? Was it Stevie Wonder or Frank Sinatra

  • neither....

  • Um, thanks for answering 1/2 the question.

  • ok first of the awnser would be NEITHER.

    bennet wrote it...

  • the song was written by Motown songwriters Ron Miller and Orlando Murden.

  • i believe Tony Bennett did?

  • Neither. Frank never wrote music. It was written in 1967 by Ron Miller and Orlando Murden. Just in case you were wonderin'. :)

  • And that was music...

  • They don't make em like that no more.

  • THE GREATEST EVER!

  • Don't Forget Bobby Darin!

  • i love tony, and i adore this song. so many great singers had their way with it, each one very differently, and it always shines.
