I don't think it will be too long before Hollywood cashes in on a huge Macross trilogy based on this series. Lets just hope they don't stray too far from the story and screw it up like they did with transformers.

Have to say that the real japanese version "Macross" is much better than Robotech, especially on the music front... the only good song in Robotech is "To be in love"
BTW, I swear in the original '85 run the book at the end had "A.D. 2012" written on it, as shown in Macross. Funny they decided to remove that. The intro and outro animations were different, of course, too.
Wow. I caught Robotech during its '85 run, and 26 years later the story still holds up. Watching it now I understand why I was so obsessed.
People who put it down vs. Macross miss the point. When Robo came out in the US there was NOTHING like it on TV at the time, including other anime. All the characters, plot lines and themes are generally the same as in Macross. Some parts of Robotech are better, such as voice acting and that GORGEOUS theme music. Overall I say it's a wash.

I gotta say I do enjoy the ending to the Macross series over this off version Robotech: The Macross Saga timeline. Admiral Global,Claudia LaSalle and the Bridge Bunnies all survive in Macross.
It is so pleasant to see one of the anime's of old still stand the test of time. It's also so sad; the anime after one such as this or less then lack luster now in days.
When you really stop to analyse the series, it's always strange to realise that right from the first to last episode, the only survivors on Earth end up being the residents who lived on Macross Island at the start if the series.
Thus in my opinion It's a sin to watch the Robotech sagas and not watch the original: Super Dimentional Fortress Macross. I recommend everyone to do so, they will not be dissapointed if they loved this one, instead I bet you'll be charmed. I am still till this day questioning why the original saga wasn't continued. Everything else after it is child play. I love you Super Dimensional Fortress Macross.
The original series is in a world of its own in how it portrays the ending by how the events are portrayed and the dialogue used which is different. It not only adds depth and drama but it makes the love triangle perfect - emotionally charged and intense, to the point where you're not satisfied with the ending at all - wanting more. I'll give credit to the Robotech sagas for expanding the series where the original did not after the final episode.
As you may or may not know, Gloval and Claudia didn't die in the original Macross series, nor did the Bridge Bunnies The SDF-1 wasn't destroyed by the other ship, just damaged.

The dialogue about the SDF-2 in this episode really makes NO sense and there's NO way for Robotech apologists to explain it. The footage shows the SDF-1 getting hit! Lisa was obviously on a lower deck of the SDF-1. If Macek wanted to convincingly fool us that 2 of the 3 mounds in Southern Cross were the SDF-1 and Kyron's ship, he could've said the 3rd mound was the city. It would've still been lame, but a lot less lame that shoving in b.s. diologue that clearly doesn't match the visuals.

Yes, this is the best anime you can possibly get of all times, wished they continue with the saga - Sentinels! It's not too late, most voice characters are still around and since technology is so advance, it wont take long to make the series.

Minmei stands for self-absorption,vanity,selfishness, and civilian life. Lisa Hayes represents altruism,seriousness,duty,selflessness, and the military way of life. By choosing Lisa, Rick makes the right moral choice, one that will be harder and less fun, but ultimately more fulfilling.

It didn't make sense to me and as I looked for more information I learned about how Robotech was made and started to follow the original Macross series. It's an interesting theory, and I would love to believe it. Unfortunately, at the beginning of "Dana's Story" Commander Leonard specifically lists Sammie among those who died. (He doesn't mention Vanessa, though, so she may have survived.) Also, in a flashback in "Birthday Blues", we hear the voice of Annie's mother. That isn't Sammie's voice.
On the other hand, considering the similarities between the two characters, Annie could be a relative of Sammie's--her niece, perhaps?
Fair enough. True, Leonard could have been wrong; it certainly wouldn't have been the first time..or the last. And come to think of it, we don't actually SEE Annie's mother in that flashback. The fact that her voice is different doesn't necessarily mean it isn't Sammie; in the early episodes of the Masters Saga, the Robotech Masters had different voices than in later ones. So you might be right after all. I'd like to think so.
There are not enough words to describe how robomess is a tateless, shitty, crap series. Nothing makes sense (SDF-2 being destroyed off screen, flowers powering mechas, etc). The dialogues are shit. The music makes people want to kill themselves (just ask Reba West how she will have to take as much alcohol before singing any roboshit song). Tje narrator sounds like a fucking annoying pedophile (like carl macek but may God has his soul to make him pay).

After all.... it's a refreshing happy ending.... Though many were lost, you can only feel happy about Lisa and Rick.... Man, too many great characters getting killed in a saga... makes you feel so strange... but also so happy about the ending.... In the end... everyone finds peace in his own way.... Amen guys.... OH! I finally see the lead in to TSC (Considering that's what got me into Robotech/ Macross/ SD) So by Rick's comment, that's why he's still around by the time the New Generation comes around. And Minmei had a fantastic exit, just wished she'd come back some time in the other series. >_<
The reason why this series was amazing wasn't just the epic sci-fi story. The love story in it is very compelling because it actually feels real as cheesy as that sounds. This show wouldn't have been the same without it. It's an awesome story. The fact that this episode has 38,648 views as of my writing this is just proof that a great story is always better than great animation.
I watched this series when I was young. It seemed cool back in the 80's, much like everything else back then which seems cheesey now. I never got to see this episode, so I'm glad I finally get to see how it ended. Back then, I would have chosen Min Mae in a heartbeat, and would have been upset that he chose Lisa. Especially knowing that he will never get over her when so much of his life revolves around her. He became a military pilot for her, and fought for her. Lisa was just a convenient love.
I remember seeing robotech tv series back in 1984.. the highlights of my life as a kid was seeing robotech, listening to the best band of the 80s, duran duran, with my john taylor hairstyle (member of duran duran), and voltron. this brings back awesome memories that will never die.
I hope hollywood doesnt make this into a movie.. theyll ruin the legacy big time.

And what type of future awaits Dana Sterling? The Masters are next!!!!
minmei is in fact a huge player in the robotech universe. pretty much the robotech timeline is a circle where at the very end the crew lisa, rick, and max and minmei all end up finding the masters home world and settling there where minmei gives birth to a son named zor.
From reading all these comments I know everyone seems to hate Minmay but I thought she had a good exit at the end particularly when we see her walk away, in the end I suppose she realized it wasn't going to work out between them, and Rick and Lisa end up together. Come to think about it didn't it look like Lisa's sleeve closing the photo book?

In my opinion, I think that the first (Macross Saga) is the best, but I am a little biased seeing that this is what I watched as a kid. I really wish they would not have killed the Sentinels. The dialogue about the SDF-2 in this episode really makes NO sense and there's NO way for Robotech apologists to explain it. The footage shows the SDF-1 getting hit! Lisa was obviously on a lower deck of the SDF-1. If Macek wanted to convincingly fool us that 2 of the 3 mounds in Southern Cross were the SDF-1 and Kyron's ship, he could've said the 3rd mound was the city. It would've still been lame, but a lot less lame that shoving in b.s. diologue that clearly doesn't match the visuals.

I think I saw a comic book Robotech 2. Not sure but I will google it and see if it is in circulation or if someone will finish Robotech 2.

It didn't make sense to me and as I looked for more information I learned about how Robotech was made and started to follow the original Macross series. I am not bashing on Robotech because if it wasnt for it then I would of never known about Macross but I do recommend those who enjoyed the first 36 episodes to explore the Macross universe

It's an interesting theory, and I would love to believe it. Unfortunately, at the beginning of "Dana's Story" Commander Leonard specifically lists Sammie among those who died. (He doesn't mention Vanessa, though, so she may have survived.) Also, in a flashback in "Birthday Blues", we hear the voice of Annie's mother. That isn't Sammie's voice.
On the other hand, considering the similarities between the two characters, Annie could be a relative of Sammie's--her niece, perhaps?

Fair enough. True, Leonard could have been wrong; it certainly wouldn't have been the first time..or the last. And come to think of it, we don't actually SEE Annie's mother in that flashback. The fact that her voice is different doesn't necessarily mean it isn't Sammie; in the early episodes of the Masters Saga, the Robotech Masters had different voices than in later ones. So you might be right after all. I'd like to think so.

After all.... it's a refreshing happy ending.... Though many were lost, you can only feel happy about Lisa and Rick.... Man, too many great characters getting killed in a saga... makes you feel so strange... but also so happy about the ending.... In the end... everyone finds peace in his own way.... Amen guys.... The reason why this series was amazing wasn't just the epic sci-fi story. The love story in it is very compelling because it actually feels real as cheesy as that sounds. This show wouldn't have been the same without it. It's an awesome story. The fact that this episode has 38,648 views as of my writing this is just proof that a great story is always better than great animation.

I watched this series when I was young. It seemed cool back in the 80's, much like everything else back then which seems cheesey now. I never got to see this episode, so I'm glad I finally get to see how it ended. Back then, I would have chosen Min Mae in a heartbeat, and would have been upset that he chose Lisa. Especially knowing that he will never get over her when so much of his life revolves around her. He became a military pilot for her, and fought for her. Lisa was just a convenient love.

I remember seeing robotech tv series back in 1984.. the highlights of my life as a kid was seeing robotech, listening to the best band of the 80s, duran duran, with my john taylor hairstyle (member of duran duran), and voltron. this brings back awesome memories that will never die.
I hope hollywood doesnt make this into a movie.. theyll ruin the legacy big time.

In my opinion, I think that the first (Macross Saga) is the best, but I am a little biased seeing that this is what I watched as a kid. I really wish they would not have killed the Sentinels. My wife (who is younger than me) saw this for the first time and loved it. Rick and Lisa is the best, I love the moment she tells him she loves him. Well Done!!!!!!!
