MM was a very much a produced star, but all the stars of her era was a product of the "studio system." They all had contracts and obligations to a studio...Paramount, Warner Bros or MGM, etc. They even had her change her name and they groomed her for stardom, that was very typical back then. MM also had a nose job before she got famous. BB was not part of the Hollywood studio system, she was more of her own creation though under the guidance of her husband Vadim.

@shinznay MM was actually very much a Hollywood product. Of course your argument could be it was her initial desire to become an actress so it's not like she was completely pulled from the streets. However she was part of the hollywood system. They changed her name, gave her plastic surgeries and groomed her for stardom. BB was much more natural and more of a creation of her own. Also in the late 50's and 60's BB was actually a much bigger star and phenemenon than MM outside the US.
