I'd like to take a club to the guys who shot this. It's really cultural racism, i'm sure they wouldn't make fun of Muslims or aboriginals. Canada - multicultural? the seal hunt has been proven to be humane, time and time again. as with any hunt, not everybody's going to follow the rules, but the given methods for dispatching of the seals is humane. it's clearly not 'cowardly' or 'barbaric,' it just looks bad because seals are cute.

You're going to pay for it out of your own pocket then! This year pelt prices were down to $12 and no buyers. If you are a seal killer you betray your own fishing communities who actually work for a living. 97% of a seal's diet is predators of food fish that Newfoundland depends on. So slaughtering seals means those fish never recovered. You're also responsible for a boycott that took 1/2 a billion dollars away from those fishermen in snow crab earnings, the mainstay of Newfoundland fisheries

Seals are not the "most abundant"; They're dropping like a stone now because of ice loss from global warming. The gulf of st lawrence and newfoundland was free of ice in 2006 and 2007 and most of the seal pups died.

Seals have a purpose in the environment. seals don't eat those food fish, they eat their PREDATORS-skates, rays, sculpin, capelin, squid, silver hake, dogfish, etc. These species are mostly unfit for human consumption but they prey on fish that humans eat (the cod, haddock, whiting and plaice and their minnows, spawn, & eggs). Candians wiped out the fish populations by 1992. Because the seals were killed predators exploded and those fish never recovered. More seals=more fish.

Btw tourists stay away from seal nursery tours & boycott whale watching tours because 2000 selfish thugs want to protect tiny amounts of beer money in the offseason.The ecotourism industry is worth 10s of millions (even with tourism boycotts, whale watching brought $20 million to Newfoundlnd-in Latin America it earns $280 MILLION every year) Compare that to last years pitiful $6 mil profit from seal killing-this year the profit was less than $1 mil, which worked out to a pay of 33 cents an hour
