i left eugene on 12.18.1999 and i live in germany now...i must admit it's hard not to cry seeing all thiese vidios on how my home town, where i lived and loved, just collapsing. it breaks my heart!
Liberals have wrecked Eugene, and are ruining Oregon. They like to spend other peoples money, but aren't willing to give up theirs. When you tax employers out of business, then there IS no business!
@wrund your damn right. liberals ruin everything. these gay mayors and other wacked out crap here in oregon. i moved to oregon ten years ago from illinois. i will always love the land and mts and oceans but most oregonians i know are vegitarian liberal gay lovers. i am hardcore conservative. see my vids on my page. see how i get ready for economic collapse
I was born in Eugene in '53.. A lot has changed. Odd politics has destroyed much of the local industrial base. Coffee houses can only employ so many people. Someday perhaps common sense will find it's way back to Eugene. In the meantime, no-growth politics is showing it's ugly side. The only growth industry is public sector.. When you kill the goose that generates the golden eggs, yiou find economic ruin. Marxists find this delightful. American's should wake up.
I lived there for years, and this is the way I always remember it. It's not the economy, it's the town. It's a bunch of hippies who think that they are doing great things by taking acid, and growing dreadlocks. Even the older population is on drugs. (this is coming from a liberal, who enjoys weed occasionaly) I'm pretty laidback, but these people take it to another level. I haven't met 1 person in 8 years who is doing something interesting with their life who lives there. Thankfully I moved.
And you are clearly a dick. If a meth head got near my kids, well I'd have to call in a favor to stay out of the joint. But to condemn a whole community for drugs that mainly come from Mexico (75% according to the DEA) is not only ignorant, but narrow minded to the point of criminality.
We pay off peoples debts and student loans. Then the money goes back to the banks anyways, and people have more financial freedom to invest their money, and buy.
As a former resident of Eugene, it sickens me to see just how far and how bad it is. I remember the last time it got that bad, I was 12 years old when the 1981-82 ressesson hit the Northwest. I moved away five years ago and took a job in the mid Atlantic region of the country, but I will always think of Eugene as my home town.
I live in Seattle, just got back from Michigan. I was visiting a friend in Sterling Heights...he took me downtown Detroit...I don't think most people know what that place looks like...I've never seen an American city that looks third world...massive slums, empty buildings, abandond properties...it was shocking....it's a total dump
My father in law says that it was the white flight after the 67 riot that doomed Motown. It's amazing how cruddy Detroit is and yet if you drive a couple of blocks over to Grosse Pointe things are completely different.
As I am writing this CNN is airing IOUSA re: our huge economic problem. Trouble now? I suppose within 30-60 days we are going overboard. CNN owned by elite & now elite wants to do whatever they plan.
Man I used to fix those motorchoaches all the time back when I worked at Cummins. Man are they ever a pain to work on. I'm still sorry to see them fail.
The motor homes I worked on were disgustingly expensive. Some of them were worth over a half a million dollars. It was sick!
They closed the Bayliner factory just north of Roseburg in December. Their yard is full with boats and the equipment like hull forms. Roseburg is also getting hit hard by the lack of lumber and plywood sold.
Another fantastic Video Blog thank you again and I feel your disappointment and that of the town, by the way 3 times bigger than timmins 45000 ontario canada. This place does not have at this moment any big lay by the minning companys so far Gold is keeping it together
Nice job, Aaron. I live in Eugene, too, and you've done an excellent job of presenting the current economic problems here. The timber and transportation problems are statewide and regional.
Ahhh yes. Sadly, I know all about the RV industry. We used to do warranty work for all those companies you are showing. We knew this was coming a year ago. Things are really going to get bad. Thanks for the vid. Very good.

If all you see in Eugene are too many piercings, meth and drugged up hippies you should stop hanging around the train tracks.
