Patois is a creole language which has many mixes of african, spanish and portugese mixtures. The very word patois derives from french influences, its very stupid to say its English, whoever said that please do your research and educate yourself.

There is a difference between Jamaican English and the official language of Jamaican Patois. I urge you to address your confusion and do your research. Have you even heard of Creole? You just said it has words from Spanish, so you just destroyed your own argument. Read a book, or do some online research, then come back to me with a proper argument :)

@ruseangirl Where I was born has no relevance to this discussion. Whether I was born or raised in Jamaica is not the issue. The issue is that you clearly fail to understand what creole is and the distinctiveness of Jamaican Patois. The Africans who were taken to Jamaica came with their various African languages. They were also influenced by various colonial invaders, who were NOT only English. Where in the English dictionary do you hear piknie (child)? It is English-influenced but NOT English.

you cant just throw a bunch of the slangs together and a sentence and automatically assume a jamaican is going to understand you certain jamaicans have problems understanding english...my sister had something happen to her, and when she tried to explain it he didnt understand what happned, my mother had to explain it in patois for him..and he is 'educated' and speaks fluent english.
patois and creole actually have their own unique sentence structure which = language, not dialect.
